Need to get rid of 'my' car

Recommended Posts

My sisters 2001 Intrepid needs a new engine and we're not going to fix it because it's not worth it... Even if it had an engine it still has no value lol, so what's the best way to get rid of it?

i searched for those car donation things, but a million of those sites popped up and some of them looked bogus to me.

You are probably better off going to a local charity for that. Either a religious charity or an abused women charity in my area seem to have programs for car donation. Maybe the local auto tech school or high school would take it for a project. The other option is to call up the local junkyard/salvage yard. You might get some cash for it that route or a write off through the charity.

One last option if you have the space, time and ability. Part it out yourself on E-Bay, good money to be made that route.

leave it in the rough end of town?

That probably gets back to your sister. Somebody might start to strip it, but it probably eventually gets towed to an impound lot and they match the VIN up to your sister. Unless you go through the trouble of removing all the VIN's, but that would be an amazing pain in the ass. Not to mention the hassle of towing it to the rough end of town in the first place.

National Kidney Foundation often takes them as "kidney cars". They have volunteer mechanics come by and fix them up. Then in turn, donate them to families that need dialysis but can't get to the clinic without a car.

Otherwise, like the other posters have stated, go with a trade school or otherwise.

A couple years ago when my '97 Taurus died, I just sold it to the junk yard for $150. Ironically enough, I now own a 2001 Intrepid.

I hate it :(

that's comically sad...

some of charities i've looked into want a running car to give to poor families... and i will not give to a religious charity, ever.

the junkyard idea is great, i sent an email to a known junk yard that i pass by almost everyday for a quote.

    • Sorry to be that guy but, Given Trump won again even after a failed first term it would appear attacking the other side is how to gain Government in America. Voters when it came down to it didn't give a s**t about those Democratic achievements and voted for Trump over an intelligent, qualified mixed race woman. We need to face up to this uncomfortable reality. There are more Americacan voters who support racism and christian bigotry along with defending and supporting pedophilia, adjudicated rapists, multiple time convicted felons etc than those who don't. Btw, that is how the world sees America now. Not that Trump voters care as they attempt to cocoon themselves in a white supremacy bubble.
    • That's not clickbait. Clickbait is headlines like, "You'll never guess what this person looks like now" for example. For goodness sake, take a look around the internet if you think this is clickbait. How do sites survive if people don't click through to articles? How many people in all honesty would have clicked this if it had your suggested headline? You and those upvoting your post won't be happy until the web is a couple of hundred websites all behind a paywall.
