Warcraft III DotA Thread

Recommended Posts

I thought that I would start this post to see how many people out there played DotA and wanted to have a place where they could post up strats and thoughts on upcoming patches etc. I also noticed that there was no place for Warcraft strats or anything up here, even though the game is getting a bit past in date its still a awesome game, so feel free to hit this thread up when there is anything you need answered or wont to start something up.

Anybody that play on US.West and wants to come and play whisper me and my mates hit me up... Golferjim (nz/aus)

I'm actually banned on a few users' banlist.

lol.

People also need to be reminded that there is no such thing as a global banlist. Get over it, there isn't.

On topic, I play here and there. A lot less now that assignments are kicking in.

I had a debate over which hero would own given a 1v1 match all buffed up.

PA vs Troll vs Void vs PL.

We came to the conclusion that Troll's perma-bash would be the favourite to win.

Though PA can do major crit I doubt she could land 3 straight hits without getting stunned for a lengthy period, assuming Troll has some sort of lifesteal.

Just finished one (5vs4). And never again I am going to play Easy Mode. We destroyed all of their towers and then 3 of them left. Well, the other two got the money and items and they started killing us. (we were Thinker, Undying, Spectre (noob, only got to lvl 14 while everyone else was +20), Axe (noob, lvl 16) and they were Drow Ranger and P. Assassin).

Regular -SD will do fine from now on.

"PA vs Troll vs Void vs PL."

If leveled properly I think the PL has the most chances. But he has been damaged a lot by the newest version. Slow percentage is lower, only 5 illusions. (N) Hoping they will give us again the change to make other people get the message "This unit cannot move."

Oh how I love DotA, I can spend hours playing it...

The only problem is that I often get kicked out of games because pinger says im MX and the host seems oblivious to the fact that I have lower pings than most of the US/CA guys they let play

Oh... and Axe is extremelly overpowere in Early Game...

As for the mode I prefer -AREM or -SDEM... yes, I play EM, I find it to be a bit more fun

Haha, EM is all good :)

I get really sick of playing it though when you have people that either leave once the game starts, leave on the countdown timer, or they die being first blooded or something and then leave straight away..

I find that playing just games which are no EM, have the better players but also like that is more were the skill is at for DotA, like EM creeps are weaker same with towers etc with non EM matches its like you have a personal handicap were things are harder and it takes more skill to master that.

Me and my mates at school were trying to think of a team of hero's which used the most required skill and would be one of the hardest teams to beat. We came up with a combo, we had Meepo, Keal, Morph, Bristol, and there was one other that was going to be there but I cant remember what it was....

Anyone able to think of a team combo that would be so overpowered when mastered properly?

Well, the thing is each char has strengths and weaknesses but a pretty good team would be

- Meepo (I love him, I am the net god)

- Traxex

- Avernus

- Razor

- Syllabear

And I personally think Invoker sucks but oh well...

Invoker is a little overpowered in the early period. Casting meteor and that spell that damages and pushes enemies is very overpowered, especially against weak intelligence/agility heroes. (most notable when a big fight starts) It the late period, he is really weak. (but that is the thing, when playing with Invoker you must not allow your enemies to achieve big level)

I've honestly only played DotA a few times, but I loved it. I absolutely SUCK at strategy games , so I'm not that great at it, though. I tried to play a couple games on B.net and everyone bitched at me that I sucked and told me to leave.

...Geez, thanks guys for SHOWING me how to play. Oh well.

Yeah, don't know why but Battle.net has a lot of these. Also the Battle.Net and WorldofWarcraft.com forums. Seems like Blizzard just attracts those kinds of people.

Go watch some replays and watch people how they play. Steal their ideas.

Personally dota is too overwhelming, slow-moving and boring for me so I just stick to the actual game itself although I haven't bothered playing in a while.

Hmmm, you will often get these sorts of people when starting out in DotA or even for proper B.Net games, it just takes time for both of them to master, I remeber my first time playing DotA I was horrible.

Here is a REALLY good link which helped me:

http://www.dotastrategy.com/

This site basically gives you the run down on all DotA heros and what iteam builds etc... Once you become more confident you will be able to do your own builds etc... With B.Net games I have another link which can help you with playing your race, builds, and replays..

There is two, both are really really good :) :

http://www.wcreplays.com/

http://www.gosugamers.net/

With gosugamers you have both news and strats for DotA and Ladder strats.. These too helped me a lot when starting out and even now I look back to see whats what.. :D

Hope this helps

I haven't played DoTA in quite a few version -- probably about a year... but when I did -- I just couldn't play public games anymore. They were always filled with 12 year old lame asses and leavers. Drove me insane. Inhouse FTW.

Yeah I feel your pain :( ..

If you wont to come back to DotA and play some games ( inhouse games ) come to our channel on US.W we play a lot of games mostly in house if we have the numbers :D

Channel is : Clan GGT

Hope to see you there, it would be great to have more people coming so we can get some really good games going without peopel leaving all the time ><""

That was my problem when playing normal and couldn't be bothered to integrate myself into the community. I just don't really know of any WC3 community sites that're worth joining.

Like with CS:S, I'd just make a reqruitment post on enemydown.co.uk, join a clan and there I go...

I cba starting it again though, won't have the time with uni starting in a week ;).

The DotA-Allstars offical site has a great community, plus just by ghosting the forums you'll pick up alot of the DotA mechanics, something that usually ends up separating the lowly players from the decent.

Good god yes. I hope the release a patch that has something like an account limit per cd-key per month, then at least that would make Banlist half decent and worth while. If not then at least have it in StarCraft 2. T_T

Like GolferJim, keen to play with some others from around here. "NiceCarpet-ng" @ US.West : D

Anyone like the new heros in Beta 12 / 20?

@ Golferjim. I am a NZ DotA and Ladder player. Its always good to get more dota mates. that way less leavers in your games. Give me a holla when ever your online. I have a few accounts as I smurf a lot lol. Accounts are Thirteenth, LiftPlus and jOshay. LiftPlus is my main. All accounts are on us.west.

PS: I host LC games regularly, so come join the low delay games!

Sweet as, that sounds awesome its great to have more players like you said so less leavers. :D

T.T Smurfs, not good :pinch:

i usually put PROS on the game title.. it's not the best method as the newbs can't READ the title, but it does fish out 2/3 of newbs and a majority of the time you/i'll get a decent game.

Well I've found out that doesn't really stop the leavers...

I have to smurf to find a game because search times take too long.

I dont agree with "smurfing" its just so pointless, your just going to end up playing people better then what you really are.

When I started with my account my que times were like 30secs if that.

It would be smartter if you played properly, and got your skill up and then the que times will be lower then what you expected them to be at the lower ranked level.

    • KillerPDF 1.5.1 by Razvan Serea KillerPDF is a lightweight, portable PDF editor for Windows built for users who want full control without subscriptions, installers, or telemetry. It runs as a single executable, making it ideal for USB use and field work. You can view PDFs with smooth PDFium rendering, navigate quickly with thumbnails, zoom, and shortcuts, and reorganize pages using drag-and-drop. It supports merging multiple PDFs, splitting documents, and extracting selected pages. KillerPDF also allows inline text editing with font matching to preserve the original layout, plus annotations like text boxes, freehand drawing, highlights, and reusable signatures. You can search full text, copy content easily, and print documents with flattened annotations. Designed as a free and open alternative to bloated PDF tools, it works fully offline on Windows 10/11 x64. No runtimes install. Everything needed is inside the EXE (targets .NET Framework 4.8, which ships with every supported Windows release). KillerPDF key features: High-quality PDF rendering via PDFium Edit PDF text inline (double-click to modify text) Page thumbnails and fast navigation with zoom and shortcuts Merge multiple PDFs into one Split PDFs and extract selected pages Drag-and-drop page reordering Font matching to preserve original document appearance Text boxes for notes Freehand drawing tools Highlight overlays with adjustable color, size, opacity Undo actions and clear per-page annotations Create, draw, and save reusable signatures Click-to-place signatures anywhere Full-text search with highlighted results Drag-select or Ctrl+A to copy text Print with annotations flattened Portable single-file app (~10 MB) No installer, no admin rights required No account, no telemetry KillerPDF 1.5.1 changelog: Performance Save Flattened PDF now uses multiple CPU cores. Page rasterization is parallelized (PNG encoding runs across cores; the PDFium render step stays serialized since the library isn't thread-safe), so large documents flatten significantly faster while the UI stays responsive (#68). Fixed PDFs that failed to open with "Unexpected EOF" now open (#72). The failure was PdfSharpCore's Flate inflater (SharpZipLib) rejecting the FlateDecode cross-reference stream on multi-revision PDFs - files that open fine in browsers, Acrobat, and Foxit. KillerPDF now detects this and re-opens the file losslessly through PDFium, preserving selectable text. Thanks to @javajon for the report and a detailed reproduction. Grid view renders every page. It was capped at the first 26 pages, so longer documents stopped loading partway through. Tiles also stream in progressively now instead of blocking until the whole document is rendered. Grid Ctrl+Scroll no longer reloads every page when the zoom is already at its limit and nothing would change. Removed a stray horizontal scrollbar (a thin green line) that could appear across the bottom of grid view. Files on UNC / network shares (including the WSL \\wsl$ filesystem) are copied locally before opening, avoiding partial-read failures on network filesystems. Changed Minimum zoom lowered from 10% to 5%, so grid view can pack more columns (helpful for wide/landscape pages) and single-page view can zoom out further.
