Warcraft III DotA Thread

I'm kinda confused....I thought Dota was an addon for WC3...and addons don't have levels as far as I remember....

Depends where you look. The battle.net levels are for melee games. There are also levels on Garena but I don't know how they are calculated.

G arena is a client that builds a Virtual private network so you can play lan games that are supported y the client via accessing the LAN option in the game, i actually was a mod there its quite decent and has very few lags, currently the client supports WC3, WC3FT, DOW, Quake and CS.

DOTA is built using the battle map editor that comes with the game, currently there are 4 ways to play it, battle.net, Dota arena (official from the map creators), G arena and well solo with an AI patched map.

the first two require the use of an authentic serial numbered game the last too not so much. the ladder of experience is calculated using complex algorithms that take into account team builds, item builds, time to finish the game and many other factors.

personally i prefer strength heroes and even then those that can get quite some gold like axe and sandking, just the other day we played an -ap game and finished it in under 6 min using a very lethal and quick combo of creep generators our team was

-brood mother

-prophet

-lycnthrope

-enigma

-necrolyte

each of them has the ability to generate creeps with the exception of the last who has the ability of mass healing, push one lane at level one with said creeps and took out first 2 towers b4 the other team knew what hit them game was over with all their primary towers destroyer (6 towers) and maximum hero level on our team was 6 b4 the other team all quite in disarray it was just for fun too.

No DotA is a whole game within Warcraft3, it is a Custom made game not made by Blizzard but by someone that plays Warcraft3 and has just made their own mini game within Warcraft3..

What is Garena? Is that where people play Dota? I thought DOTA was exclusively for b.net

This is a whole other programme that runs via a lan based type thing. It is different from B.Net and its offten were the more "pro players" would be found. For DotA if you go on there and play you will have games with the best ping and no leavers at all. It also has various other opitions to view live replays with pros playing...

This is just an Alternate source to play with more advanced players, and lower ping'd servers etc...

Which way is the most popular way? I assume the Dota arena? I'm trying to find my wc3 cds now...hope I didn't sell them

Its going to be bad if you have sold them, because when I went out not to long ago to buy WC3 the prices are still the same as the day they came out :s mine were 50NDZ and 80NDZ, so good luck in finding them..

-brood mother

-prophet

-lycnthrope

-enigma

-necrolyte

I was just talking over this team combo with some mates of mine, it seems like a really really good push team combo with imba support and DPS. We thought that you would have Lycanthrope solo bot and push quick smart all the way, with Brood mother and Necro at Top to push that right to the end, and then there is Prophet and enigma to take mid lane. Such a good team make up never though of it, with the support imba dps and CC ( Crowd Controll ) and there is a lot of disable its GG pretty much for any team that you Vs....

I wont to get my mates to try this one with me it will be awesome to see how well it really goes down :)

that would be very funny as i said we started the game all pushin top at lvl 1 no one would think that people would try taking out a tower let alone 2 the most important thing is never pull back alone if yor gonna stop the push just plan another instead

The new version of DotA is here go to www.getdota.com

There is Two new hero's and some new teams.. its alll very good, the map is totally different which I don't like to much but it would be great to here about what everyone else thinks of it

-brood mother

-prophet

-lycnthrope

-enigma

-necrolyte

Few problems with that team, you have nice DPS, but no disable at all unless you count Enigma which is mediocre disable at best.

Something like a Void, Sven, Tree, Skeleton King, Rhasta would own that team (granted all players are of same skill level)

Proudmoore is a bit overpowered IMHO. The new map layout is nice. Wards were nerfed pretty bad.

I just saw the changelog.

A LOT have changed.

I totally agree Sentry Wards got denerfed bad.

6min --> 3 mins with only 2 charges. Ouch.

Two simultaneous teleports to a building is a good idea, not knowing where the teleport is exactly to.

Captain mode looks fun, like RD.

I'm glad they nerfed broodmother.

The ultimate was sick once buff.

Yeah the changes are A LOT different, when I got on the first time and saw the map I was like "wow this is really different" I dont like the fact how it is so spread out like there is more paths to run around and hide in without being able to get blocked in.

The changes on the hero's are great, like how Brood is not that really OP thing that runs out and takes you out in Two hits.. With the new hero's they have got I think that the Admiral is really OP if used properly he can basically take down a whole team with himself, the Windrunner is mean fun I dont think she is quite as OP as the Admiral but still she is really fun to play, quite like playing a hunter in WoW since you have all the different shot types etc...

Anyone have some Builds for the new hero's, At the moment I have only been able to play Windrunner since everyone else gets Admiral before I can even click him. Iteams I get though are....

Items: Agi Treads

Orchid

MBK

Deso

Shiva's

Assault

Its quite an expensive build but once you get those item's she is a force to be reckoned with.. I heard that someone did have TWO Cranium Bashers on her and has like WTFGG... Just really depends on how you like to play your hero I guess, one other thing about her she is INTELLECT I didn't notice till someone pointed it out to me the other day, was very surprised to have a Int archer type thingy :p

Any improvements or strats with these new hero be sure to let us know :)

that should be reported.

but i'm sure someone else has reported it.

i reported a bug where when Jugg gets frozen by CM, Jugg can just spin out of it... like wtf.

I hope they fixed it in this version.

same goes for Rooftellen, TH can get out of it by casting his ultimate.

I don't know if these are bugs, but they certainly should not be allowed to cast/use any skills once they are "stunned".

New Map out again.. The only change that I can notice is that the map has changed back to the way it was before and the place were you have picked your hero has moved back to the place is was before almost..

If there is anymore changes or anything let us know!

not really as i said that combo serves a purpose, a decent team work a game can't last more than 10 min as i said ours was done before we reached level 6, if the game dragged on i agree that team would surely lose and only if we face off as in 5vs5, the team you suggested has 4 strength heroes and 1 intelligence mine has a mixture of intelligence and agility.

one more thin you forget status effects and items. enigmas ulti is a mass stun if executed properly, and necrolyte can get a hex while brood mother most likely would go for a mixture of maybe avatar and additional life steal helpers.

there is also the ultimate factor and that is team coordination and proper planning, no team in their right mind would possibly guess that the opposing team would all go through the same lane at level one.usual combo is 2,2 and 1 solo depending on how the opposing team plays ur looking at at least 2 dead members that is first blood and experience plus the delay they get, by the time the rest get a clue you would have taken out 2 towers and maybe be 2 levels advantage.

Ummm the terrain layout is still the same, they did change the taverns back to the old place though.
