When are you guys going to figure out the GUI isnt the main focus right now?

when you realize that we like shiny things....

Honestly though, if they are changing the style soo soon, I can't wait to see the final or even beta versions.

Could Microsoft incorporate these changes into Windows Vista with a service pack?

no way the are going to do that , the have said it before a SP is not for adding feature

xp sp2 being exception , just because without sp2 features xp sucks ***

I'm really not liking the lack of icons next to text menus. It's the same way in the new Windows Live Mail beta and other Live betas. (Go to the last page and scroll up to the Explorer screenshot see what I mean.)
+1

But tbh I think they will realise that it's hella easier to just look for an icon than to look for text.

When you're quickly looking for something, be it in taskbar or a menu like that, it's way easier to just look for an icon than to make your brain parse all the text before telling your hand what to click.

But if they don't, meh, it's not going to be a killer for me. I'll still use it.

Shiny new things is why a lot of people buy new stuff, Windows is like that to customers.

What I'd like to see is if that old Windows 3.1 'Add Fonts' dialog is still there in Windows 7.

i believe that dialog has been removed from windows 7. that's what aero taskforce says anyway.

No, not gonna happen. MS want you to upgrade to "7", porting anything back to Vista (or even XP for that matter) would be counterproductive to that effort and more importantly as stated before, SPs are not meant to bring new features and XP SP2 was the one and only exception to that rule.

^Do you really think that this is the final look for the GUI? Do you think that the GUI is the top priority?

At this stage their just testing a few things. They're more concern about how Windows 7 will function.

Hmm, I hope your right Capric0rn because the GUI is incredibly similar to Vista, when it should not be. Vista is way to cluttered and needs a redesign with much more simplicty and aimed at more being user-friendlier which has been stated by the mighty Bill in most articles on the next OS

* How difficult it is for them to put a "Videos" link in start menu? :/ (or at least allow me to do it)

* The Libraries section makes me think that some WinFS like functionality is making a comeback. :)

* The UI - I am guessing this is how it will end up when it goes final - The mix of ribbon and textoolbars is very consistent with Windows Live Wave 3.

* Not sure what many people thought was different from current WMP  it looks a bit disorganized now.

There are some great changes that I myself feel is missing in the Vista interface. Great progress so far.

looks too much like Vista. so buy old vista or the "new" vista. maybe someone needs to go steal some more ideas from apple.

Still you people complain about this. Jeez...?

Geez. This is why it's bad when early screenshots are released... People, it's NOT even BETA yet! Major UI changes don't come into play until later on down the road. Not to mention, they probably still have that new taskbar re-design (which they are probably withholding on the builds to keep it a surprise down the road).

When it hits later beta stages or even the Release Candidate stages, then you can say what you do not like about the UI, as those changes are very likely to appear in the final product. What we are seeing now is entirely subject to change.

He explained it pretty well if you ask me :)

I have to say that those screenshots look very nice. It's also a very positive thing that MS is updating paint, wordpad, calc and other basic windows apps and giving them a more modern look.

I do however thing that its looking more and more "busy", meaning that all those screenshots just show an OS that is trying to do shove every single option they can think into your screen. The OS is becoming complicated beyond the need.

This is the last chance to make something,Microsoft is more and more desperate, they know apple is going up next to them . As i said, this is the last chance to make someting . I don't know who's ideea was to make the advertaisement clips ...but it just shows how bad this is for microsoft, vista failed , NT7 must be diferent...a man can only hope :)

and ps : the clips are lame :p

    • It use to be a nightmare, with LibreOffice supporting a newer draft ODF standard by default, and Microsoft Office supporting the older non-draft standard. Now that they both support the same version of ODF, they should be interoperable.

    • Hi. As the title suggests, I can't access the forum on my phone. I'm using Edge on Android and when I try to navigate to the forum I get a "we value your privacy" popup and none of the buttons are clickable. It effectively stonewalls me from reading any forum content.
    • Honestly you're not wrong about AdGuard. Neowin frequently has lifetime license discounts for them and that's how I got my cheap family license a few years ago to run it on all my devices.
