The whole "Windows being glass" gimmick has become very old.

If only they'd let people pick themes, Gnome style.

a) They are toning down glass. Notice that Live Photo Gallery (now that Photo Gallery seems to be debundled from the OS) lacks the Media Player-style glass area. Even Media Player itself has ditched the glass in favour of a smooth blue shade.

b) Both of today's most common OSes don't support custom themes natively, for reasons explained in other posts.

It doesn't look like this new interface brings any actual new features to the board, apart from the previews. We already have themes in Vista.

At least they're updating the legacy Control Panel display applets which many complained about in Vista.

You sound just like the other guys in this thread who know absolutely nothing about Windows 7 or 10.6 and assume it'll just be a minor release.

WTF are you talking about? Wiki page for OS X 10.6 says, "The new system will not focus on new features, but rather on improving performance, efficiency and reducing its overall footprint." Sure, there are new features, but nothing major like Leopard introduced. And, Windows 7 will be a pretty big release compared to Snow Leopard. It sounds like I'm not the one who knows absolutely nothing. ;)

No new features? Read: http://www.roughlydrafted.com/category/tech/snowleopard/

Comparing two unreleased OSes is laughable at best.

Where did I say no new features? I said there are new features, but not like the feature set Leopard introduced.

Oh and that page blabs on and on about 64-bit OS X.

Your implication on your first post about Apple only focusing on security issues and very minor things was where I got it.

I would say you would be correct in saying that 10.6 would not overhaul consumer oriented features that 10.5 introduced. It's far more of an under the hood overhaul.

Some people

IT ISN'T EVEN BETA!!! :| I know this is hard to understand, but any major UI changes won't be done until later in the development process. They're more considered about making sure the stuff works under the hood. Which, you know, is actually more important.

Uhm, I made an observation about the screenshot he posted. I noted that the screenshot was not proof that 7 would have theming capabilities beyond what is already in Vista. I didn't make any proclamations about what features will be in 7, so you can quit being indignant over it.

I'll even go as far to say that I think the interface in that screenshot to be an improvement over the current one, since it does seem to have actual previews of the themes, and also isn't stuck with single-tab Properties dialogs.

People have been asking/demanding more customization options in windows for years now, and these M3 shots seem to show that MS will give us more control. We can't really be sure till we get into Beta 2 or RC though.

With the news that MS will be taking out apps like Photo, movie maker, and mail, they've gotta replace those with something else.

Giga  I am sure snow leopard will bring in something new but roughly drafted? not that moron. please.

You could have linked here http://www.apple.com/macosx/snowleopard/ and nobody cared about Vista's under the hood overhaul so why would they bother about OS X's?

Roughly Drafted can go over the top sometimes, but that article I linked to was pretty valid on several Snow Leopard points that Apple doesn't disclose on their site.

Who knows why nobody cared about Vista's under the hood overhaul. You guys are just so whiny. :p

i would have told MS to **** off

i should have downloaded them before they got taken then and hosted them myself

MS cant do **** as i didnt sign any nda with them

seriously what can they do to me or him?

Uh yes they can. If you had those on your site and refused to comply I would get you your site wouldn't be up for much longer. It has nothing to do with signing an NDA.

I saved them, as I knew this would happen.

Microsoft have made him remove the screenshots.

Here's some off a French language website. So far, I dig the fact Microsoft is going the ribbon route across the board and slim it down, the latter of which is what Apple is doing with Snow Leopard.

    • The level of stupidity at Google and Microsoft is beyond belief. All they are doing by killing this is forcing people to jump over to Firefox and ditch them all together, therefore giving Firefox the market boost it needs to finally crush them all in the end.
