I really hope that's not all Windows7 has to offer. I mean nice features, great ideas, and probably great improvement in performance, but you, Microsoft, have a complete 3D desktop engine up and running which currently maybe uses 1% of its power, you have .NET 3.5 built in with all the power of composition and animation. Come on, show us that Windows7 won't be a Vista SP2, or ME, or whatever. You dared to pull the switch with Office, so grab the balls and do it again with Windows. (Y)

i hope they dont merge sidebar with explorer

that will make the explorer worse then as it is *it stop responding some times / crush *

and sidebar sometimes hangs

merging the two will make windows more crushy

hopefully the make the explorer more reliable in W7

PS : and No i don't install crapwares in windows and spec in my sig

If you havent yet figured out the purpose of the button to the right of the clock take a look at this shot http://screenshots.winfuture.de/1222531134.jpg and it pretty much explains it. (classic changing the UI and turning it into a very obvious button)

I'm loving the fact that the arrow for showing more items in the taskbar now goes up .... VERY VERY NICE!!!!

All changes are welcomed as long as the OS is completly streamlined. I really hope my current hardware will run windows 7 as i am broke and will be til 2015.

Edit:

I would really like to see directory opus features in explorer... dual pane and such .. obviously dumbed down for the average joe but still very useful!!!!

All I'm hoping is that my backup rig (Athlon XP) can run Windows 7 :D

^Porting all the 3.1 themes I see

You can do that too with Vista you know. Right click on the Desktop > Personalize > Window Color and Appearance. Nothing involving Windows 3.1 besides the contrast themes

Explorer is the key to the next version, make it powerful and efficient whilst keeping it light weight and they wont need any gimmicks or adverts, geeks will love it and that will pass down to the normal person on the street. Give people choices on how their system should present itself

Windows 7 is coming along very nicely. It's nice to see that they are finally getting into the guts of the system and finally fixing up all the old legacy icons, as well as removing the ancient monitor bezels from Personalize.

BTW, does anyone know if Windows 7 is still using the Win2000/XP-era logon/logout boxes? (They also appear when trying to remotely access another's PC.) I hope those are gone.

I hope they add some consistency to the logon UI. I hate how in Vista it goes from the black background of the logo animation, then BAM! bright green/blue login screen. Keep it black and minimal imo.

They've been doing this since XP. It feels like they'll never finish!

i hope they give you more options for the "basic" theme or atleast make the colour scheme match whatever you set it to on aero

i have my aero set to "greyscale" then all of a sudden when i open a app thats incompatible with aero im greeted some horrible bright blue windows etc

I'm confused about Gadgets.

So there is no sidebar in Windows 7, how do Gadget's stay aligned and such?

Not sure about this. But for the sake of sanity, when I click on 'Computer' or 'Network' on my start menu.. It would be good to see a heading like 'Explorer - Computer' or 'Explorer - Network' - centered, instead of a blank transparent window header. Oh and an icon representing 'Computer' or 'Network' would be nice too.

    • Wow, spoken like a true blind hater, you don't even provide arguments. Please, go check my comment above to @seacaptain and you'll find out why what you say doesn't make sense in this context...
    • Get used to this, with AI tooling now uncovering new vulns and getting them exploitable far faster than has ever been possible before software is going to need to be updated far more frequently. Back in the day it may take reseachers weeks or months to do what AI can now do in hours. Once its a threat is discovered it's weaponsized far more quickly, meaning you simply can't be waiting 2, 3, 4 weeks to deploy a patch, it needs to be patched immediately. Going to be interesting handling this in the enterprise space where traditionally patching has been steady, but very staged (and rightly so up until now), that is going to have to change.
    • You don't need to "close all browser sessions constantly" or wait for updates to install. The updates download in the background while you use the browser, without interrupting you, they install automatically the next time you launch the app. And they install very fast (depending on your storage speeds, of course), you have to wait at most 2-3 extra seconds, if any. Seems like you haven't used Edge in a loooooooong time...
