New Windows Vista Ultimate extras released

Recommended Posts

I searched for a couple of minutes and didn't find anything on this so I'll go ahead and post.

Today I had a notification that there were a bunch of new Office 2007 updates and below that I noticed two new Windows Vista Ultimate extras; Windows DreamScene content pack #4 and Ultimate sounds for Windows Tinker.

Haven't played around with Tinker yet but the three new DreamScene's sure are boring.

Meh, they're hardly extras :/

I don't even use Ultimate because there's nothing that Ultimate has that I need that Home Premium doesn't. I doubt that'll change, as it doesn't look that Microsoft is going to provide any extras for Ultimate that are useful.

Sadly I can't install anymore updates and such.. Ultimate extras add up at least a couple of GBs to my installation and I've set up only a 15GB partition for Windows :(

...And you can't increase the partition size? :p

I can't complain about Ultimate because I got it for $15 through my college (University of Nebraska - Lincoln). :D

What is that Tinker thingie?

It's just a little game, nothing major like I initially thought.

the whole ultimate extras thing was a disaster. it was a good idea from a marketing perspective but in reality it wasn't really practical. i hope nobody bought ultimate on the promise of "ultimate extras" alone (although i suspect some people were stupid enough)

anyway i suspect this is one feature we won't be seeing in windows 7....... hopefully

Ultimate has the following (notable) features over Home Premium:

* Remote Desktop Connection

* Windows Media Center AND can be a member of a Domain (w/ Home Premium you just get WMC, and with Buisness you get the domain. Ultimate is the only version that can do both).

That is (basically) the only reason to choose Ultimate over the other versions of Windows Vista. The extras have been worthless so far. Ultimate should come with an antivirus or SOMETHING IMHO.

+1

Home Premium FTW.

With what you actually get over Home Premium, Ultimate isn't worth double the price, unless you just "really" need to join a domain. I use Team Viewer more than remote desktop, and honestly I think it works better and has more features too.

The game looks neat but seriously, i'm upset to see that the Ultimate Extras weren't as big as they were going to be, and the lack of extras.

Seriously, if they do the Ultimate thing for Win Seven it'll be a shame. What's so Ultimate about it?

Don't you just miss the days when the OS was an OS and had everything for all who bought it. Darn money makers! LOL!

I agree with Shadrack, it should come with A/V or the optional to use OneCare at least.

I think that might be part of the reason people are switching to OS X nowadays. You buy the OS and you have the full package. Apple's 'Choose a Vista' ad is one of the few I actually agree with completely.
