Neowin & Double Standards!

Its because youre Canadian.... ;)

Only in America would Americans say that.

Don't kill me, that was a joke as well. =)

Oh and sorry lylesback2 but I couldn't resist:

and IT'S IT IS because your you're you are American :D
Think of the children, Mark.

The children.

LOL

I must admit that there are some things I miss. And, on some days, I might even be convinced to help out again as part of staff.

But never in an election year! :omg:

From what I can see in the two years that I have been a member there are double standards. Some people get treated better than others.

You mean like the well-behaving members?

I would love to find some examples but I have been on this site for numerous years... I see a lot of the same posts. But most have the same topic- just different sources... I can't say that I have seen much double standards. Though my post level may be lower than most- but mostly I don't have much to say until now. Some people say their posts vanished , in most cases it has been merged with a post on the same topic. I have seen very few posts get lost... These were during times of upgrading though.

We really try not to delete posts unless they are in complete violation of the rules. Often posts that go "missing" are moved or merged somewhere else that is still visible. Just about the worst thing that might happen to a semi-legal thread would be that it got moved to a subscriber-only area. Otherwise, it should be around somewhere and a search should find it.

(I'm basically just agreeing with what you said here).

In all my time on Neowin I have never witnessed such failure as what is contained in that OP.

The way in which you jumped to conclusions is laughable.

Neowin has got to be THE most fairly moderated forum on the net (from my experience) other forums will delete, edit and plain destroy your posts for the hell of it! followed by the banhammer if you so much as look at them funny, and for you to jump to so many ridiculous conclusions about this site just makes you look like a .......

Neowin is not a democracy nor is it a utopia, things can and will go wrong but the mods do their best and make judgments how they see fit, if you don't like it the exit is that way --->

my 2p...

Well, here is another example:

doubleTwist software liberates your iTunes songs

This was locked because it mentions a software product to remove DRM from your MP3s

However, the following talks about unlocking your iPhone -- same thing in my opinion as removing DRM from MP3s -- and has not been locked:

QuickPwn for Windows released, Jailbreak and unlock, firmware v2.1

Proof positive of Double Standards!

Just because something is posted on the backpage news forum, doesn't mean the OP in that forum will get any credit for the FPP. Most front page posters don't even look at the back page forum. There is a link to submit articles for consideration on the main page, use that link next time.

As for bitching about getting credit for providing a link to a news article that you didn't even write: strive for higher standards.

Well, here is another example:

So, a post about new software is the same as a post about unlocking your MP3s? Riiiiight.

To be fair to jailbreaking, all it does is allow you to customize your iPhone/iPod Touch, possibly use different carriers, and get some extra apps. Does it go against Apple's will? Yes. But illegal? Nope. (Well at least until someone finds a way to jailbreak to get everything in the app store for free. THEN it'll be illegal.) It's your own purchased hardware, not licensed software. The most they can do is deny you warranty service.

I see it as the same way as modding my Sony Ericsson phone - it gets rid of the Rogers branding, but doesn't allow me to, for instance, use their data network for free. Oh wait, they're both phones. Whoops.

Stripping DRM, on the other hand, is illegal. For instance, there's a site that offers free songs in return of browsing their ad-supported site, and having songs DRM-wrapped with a 60-day license - but it is easily renewed. Bypassing DRM would mean unlimited songs with minimal to no compensation.

I myself don't support DRM either, but that's the way things go. :/

    • draw.io Desktop 30.2.4 by Razvan Serea draw.io desktop is a downloadable security-first diagramming application that runs on Windows, MacOS and Linux. Creating diagrams in the desktop app doesn’t need an internet connection. This is useful when you are disconnected or when you must create diagrams in a highly secure environment, where data protection is of the utmost importance. When you use the draw.io desktop app, your diagrams will be stored on your local device. Because this is a stand-alone application, also designed to run offline, there are no interfaces to cloud storage platforms available. Of course, you can still store your diagrams in folders that are synchronised to your cloud storage if you wish. Easy-to-use diagram editor The draw.io apps work just like the office and drawing tools you are used to using. Drag and drop shapes from the shape libraries and drag to draw connectors between them. Drag connectors to add waypoints and set a precise shape and position, or let them reroute automatically. Double click and start typing to add a label to anything. Create tables and swimlane flows with a familiar tool. Style shapes and connectors with customisable palettes, sketch options, fonts and text formatting tools. Search for shapes, including in open-source icon libraries. Use our vast libraries of shapes and templates, organised into logical categories, to create a range of diagrams and infographics. Generate diagrams from text descriptions using our smart templates. Diagram faster with keyboard shortcuts. draw.io Desktop 30.2.4 changelog: Uses electron 42.4.1 Updates to draw.io core 30.2.4. • Microsoft will soon allow some users to block Copilot from analyzing their Office files by Usama Jawad Microsoft Purview is a pretty useful data governance, security, and management service that allows customers to gain enhanced visibility and control over their content. It's meant for commercial customers, such as organizations that are storing data at scale. As AI continues to expand and infiltrate every corner of a firm, many are a bit conscious about the technology gaining access to their confidential data. Microsoft is now making a configuration change that will allow such customers to rest easy. Right now, users within an organization have the option to apply Purview sensitivity labels (when available) to secure certain files and label them as such. For example, if you apply the "Confidential" label on an Excel file, the file will be encrypted, and a "confidential" watermark will be applied to it. So, if this file is shared with anyone, they are aware that its access is supposed to be restricted. Up until now, Microsoft was allowing some connected experiences, like its AI services, to analyze files, regardless of their sensitivity label. This is of major concern to most organizations, as a recent example highlighted how confidential emails with data loss prevention (DLP) policies like privacy labels were being uploaded to Copilot for analysis. As such, Microsoft is updating an existing Purview data label sensitivity setting that prevents "some connected experiences that analyze content", from being blocked completely from doing this. The label isn't changing, but the blocking is now being enforced across all connected services (including Copilot and other AI tools), and now extends to Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Files with the label applied already will get this enhancement automatically too once it becomes available. Microsoft has urged IT admins to inform their respective helpdesk and compliance teams, update internal documentation, and review sensitivity labels to ensure that they meet their respective compliance needs. This change is tagged as MC1297982 in the Message Center. General availability is scheduled to begin in a phased manner soon and will complete by the end of next month. That said, it is important to note that this only applies to commercial customers who have a license that allows them to use Purview.
