FrontRow is rubbish

Recommended Posts

  1. The one place in OSX where CoverFlow would be useful, it is not available
  2. There is no way to view albums by artwork at all in fact (only by first selecting an item from a textual list)
  3. There is only an Artist list not an Album Artist list, so that albums with multiple artists can only be browsed by Album if you want to play all the tracks
  4. If you hold down on the remote to scroll down the list of albums/artists the list will keep popping back up to where you started scrolling from at random intervals
  5. There is no music visualisation available

It could be a really nice feature to have on OSX, but it seems to have had little thought put into it.

If anybody knows of a nice alternative I would be glad to hear of it. The main (only) feature I require of it is to be able to browse and play my iTunes library from a distance!

PlexApp seems like it should do the job, but the iTunes import options are always grayed out on my Macbook. :(

Thanks

Version 1 of the Apple TV had the same software, more or less, as Front Row in Leopard. However, version 2.0, which also went onto 1.0 devices, was a complete remake of the software.

Meh, why not: Here's the guided tour. Watch for a few seconds and you'll see the new interface.

About 1:02 in your vid, that's the kind of interface FrontRow should have for browsing by album artwork.
