+PeterUK MVC Posted October 6, 2008 MVC Share Posted October 6, 2008 Card still works so don't be to worried the fan speed can be controlled (if supported) by RivaTuner and I think nTune can but not sure. http://downloads.guru3d.com/RivaTuner-v2.1...wnload-163.html Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/678494-76-centi-at-idle-for-xfx-9600gso/#findComment-589921454 Share on other sites
Richard Hammond
76 degrees is a bit on the warm side but GPUs have a much higher heat tolerance than CPUs, under load that will probably go over 80 degrees, i think most GPUs have a max of 120 degrees so you are fine. gummyz
Too high imo, but if you live in a hot area, or if your room is hot, then I would say this is expected. Compare these temps with your CPU temps. If your CPU temps are also high, then I would say 76C is acceptable. See if playing games will register anything too high, such as 90C. As an aside note comparison, my 9600GT Silent runs @ 50C according to GPU-Z (google this if you want to download it). I do have a Noctua fan blowing on the heatsink, since this video card has no fans. PeterUK suggested Rivatuner which is good software to help control the fan. CrashG
Here's a good guide for setting RivaTuner up, the one at guru3d isn't completely correct anymore. http://www.vaguetech.com/index.php?pageid=rt207#advcontrol Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/678494-76-centi-at-idle-for-xfx-9600gso/#findComment-589924468 Share on other sites
bob_c_b
The GPU can easily handle that temp, but the 9600 series is generally regarded as cool running so something seems off. How is the air flow in your case? If the internals are starving for fresh/cool air that won't change much. +shift. MVC Posted October 8, 2008 MVC Share Posted October 8, 2008 Temperatures are still within normal parameters, but my 9600GT idles at 46C and it's overclocked. So there is something to worry about when you're comparing same generation / relatively same architecture of GPU but have drastically different temperatures.
