[Official] Far Cry 2

Well sorry guys, I'm not jumping on the bandwagon. I'm sticking to my original opinion about this game. Yes you can hound the hell out of one negative aspect, its fine if you don't like it but that doesn't mean the game is complete crap sorry.

Well, it says I'm about 39% through the game, so I think I'm qualified to give a fairly decent opinion.

First off, I've had numerous bugs with the game. Most notably, the game locks up left-and-right when loading a section -- particularly when doing the "bus" segment. It simply stops loading and freezes. I've never had this much trouble with a game, to be completely honest.

That said, the game's not horrible. The gun play is fairly fun, but I would hope so since that's all the game is... well, that and traveling around. Traveling around actually takes up more time than the actual fights, at least in my experience with the game, which is not a good thing. The traveling is tedious, and while there may be a bus system, you're still going to spend a ton of time traveling throughout the world.

The A.I. is a mixed bag, but if I had to lean one way, I'd say negative. Sometimes it makes neat flanking maneuvers, but 90% of the time it just stands there begging to be shot... even after you've already shot it or killed its team. The "checkpoints" where guards are set up are annoying as hell, and if that weren't bad enough, there are random people driving around who always ruin the transportation even more. It doesn't matter if they're in a military Humvee or tiny little Kia knock-off, they want to kill you.

Maybe it's just me, too, but the atmosphere in the game is severely lacking... it's supposed to be this war-torn country where children are dying and all this, but you don't even get a glimpse of that. If not for a few side comments by some characters, you wouldn't even know. The voice acting by those characters is largely poor, too, so you may technically hear it but not be paying attention because none of the voice talent knows that a comma means pause.

My biggest problem with the game, though, is the malaria system. It's just a crutch the developers used to get you to meet certain people, and after a while it just becomes annoying. You'll be driving somewhere, having a guy ram you, and in the middle of it all you'll have to pop your malaria pills. Quite possibly the worst game mechanic ever invented.

All that said, though, it is still a fun game. The gun play really is fun, and you'll probably become addicted to it. It's just that a lot of these minor (and major) problems drag down what should be a great game. It's still good, though... I'd say 3.5 (maybe 4 once I get done with it) out of 5 good.

Maybe, Crysis and Crysis Warhead should be re-released on the Dunia engine (Y)

To illustrate a point, I launched Crysis Warhead after playing FarCry2, pressed Space Bar to skip all the scenes (which you can't do in FC2) and got straight into the killing and mayhem. I was playing it on 2560x1600 on max'd out settings [besides AA (my friend has 3 GTX280's in tri-sli)] and both the gameplay and graphics of Crysis absolutely destroys FarCry2, there's absolutely no challenge. I was so immersed into the gameplay of Warhead from start to end, no people to talk to, no things to interact with, just straight out war and it looked absolutely amazing.

I'm still confused guys. Could the game be designed that different between the PC/Xbox 360 to have that many more bugs? I'm just saying people on the PC seem to be having a TON of bugs, for instance like Ayepecks mentioned. Why are they so absent on the 360 version?

The whole 'malaria' idea, quite honestly blows.

Seems to be next to impossible to get to Mike's Bar for me.

Is there a way to get all healed up and just play the game without stumbling around like a pill dependent druggie?

This has got to be the best game I have played since Bioshock.

Blows my mind how good it is and how totally smooth it runs for me.

i am gonna take it as if you was not making funny mmk and say no crysis nore warhead would be re-released on the duin engine as the dunia engine is a ubisoft engine and crysis/war used the cytek cryengine 2

I know. I was just saying, Crysis running on the Dunia engine would be far more playable.

Because a console has a hardware standard where a PC can be any form of configuration imaginable.

Just a quick question, how's the multi-player aspect of this game? Is it fun/addictive? Because that's the only thing I'm hesitant about at the moment because I love playing games online. Are people already making maps and uploading it? Because it'd be such a waste if there wasn't any, the map editor looks so awesome from the vids. and reviews are giving it praise as well.

Yeah MP is decent, played it for about 2 hours for the first time this morning so it must be ok. It feels a tad 'empty' though you know? :s Go try it out.

No like campaign bugs and other stuff when people are in the game. If it deals in the game/story/etc. how does that have to do with their setup if it is something fundamentally wrong with the game. I guess I'm just saying if people are having this many problems and just criticizing from the PC standpoint, why not consider a console version then?

I know some people have experienced crashes and that, but surprise surprise that comes with any PC game, some people always seem to have issues.

Game seems to be ok.

Waited ages for it and anticipation was high and finally got it and im like 'meh'

Played it for a couple hours, and seems ok.

The more you play the storyline missions, the more you think "Why the **** does this keep happening to me?"

Also why does the Jackal repeatedly save you, the first time from Malaria, and the second time from the Desert?

it, there is something about this game I don't like. I loved Far Cry and Crysis, but this game just bores me. Like I mentioned previously, if a game wants to focus of realism then let me sneak up on an enemy and silently take him out with a knife in a cease fire area. You cant do that without alerting every enemy within the town. So unless my knife has a siren on the blade or its just badly thought out.

I'm with these guys. I tried the exact same thing with the knife, and was also really annoyed that the whole world instantly knew about it. It's just.. meh.

What a shame :(

(BTW got it today as a rental) Yeah, have to say while I do not think it is bad by any means, it also has not jumped out at me as great by any means. Seems just okay.

I am only about 45 minutes in (now at the point I am making my own decisions free in the world), so I do realize I have to give it a bit more time, but I usually know right away if a game is going to capture my undivided attention, and if there was nothing else out, I would probably be much more into it, but the simple fact there are other games out, I do not have much time to play anything these days, so I have to be particular in what I do play.

I too tried the knife sneak up, was hugely disappointed it did not work.

Just an FYI, if anyone is playing this on the 360, someone re-created the COD4 Shipment map for multiplayer download.

I haven't checked it out yet though to see how it compares.

the spaces between the boxes are a bit bigger than on cod but other than that it is fine

best multiplayer game ive played all year (360 btw) no lag, its fun and addictive and custom maps rule

the only bad thing about custom maps is that any old idiot can make a rubbish map, however there arent many of them

    • Microsoft finally admits its default Windows 11 25H2, 24H2 action broke key legacy component by Sayan Sen Microsoft last week released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. So far the company has acknowledged two known issues that have popped up after the release which include bugged-out Office apps as well as the Recycle Bin; though there could be more at play too. Speaking of bugs and issues, Microsoft seems to have finally acknowledged a problem that probably has been around for close to a year. That's because back in July of 2025 the company made a default change to the latest Windows 11 versions, wherein it switched to JScript9Legacy on Windows 11 24H2 and later releases. Hence following the release of version 25H2 in October 2025, JScript9Legacy also remained default-enabled. As a result there has been a compatibility issue ever since then. For those wondering, by switching to JScript9Legacy Microsoft intended to improve the security of modern Windows PCs by reducing vulnerabilities tied to legacy scripting like cross-site scripting (XSS), among others. XSS exploits can allow cyber-attackers to attach malicious code onto legitimate websites and use them to execute the code when a potential victim loads such a website. Hence the new JScript9Legacy engine enforced stricter execution policies and improved object handling, which should help mitigate such attacks. Microsoft today has published a new support article detailing the problem. Neowin spotted it while browsing. The company says that JScript global definitions and execution context may fail to persist across scripts, potentially breaking older dependent apps and web-based components that relied on this legacy behavior. In the article Microsoft has confirmed that the issue stems from its move away from the older jscript9.dll engine in favor of jscript9legacy.dll. As mentioned above, while the newer engine was designed to address vulnerabilities and strengthen security it also changes how JScript handles execution context. As a result functions and definitions loaded by one script could no longer remain available to subsequent scripts once execution ended. The company notes that some applications worked correctly on earlier Windows versions because the older JScript engine automatically retained global definitions and execution state between scripts. Under the newer model though that behavior is disabled by default causing certain legacy workloads and polyfill-dependent scripts to fail. Microsoft says it addressed the problem via the KB5077241 update though the fix had not been enabled automatically in the following updates. As such admins must explicitly turn on persistent JScript execution context using a Registry setting that the tech giant shared today. The configuration can be applied to individual processes or system-wide through the FEATURE_ENABLE_PERSISTENCE registry key. The steps have been outlined below: Run the following command to create the feature control registry key: reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_ENABLE_PERSISTENCE" Under this key, create a new DWORD (32-bit) value. Configure the value as follows: To enable persistence for specific processes only: Set the value to 1 for each target process name. To enable persistence for all processes: Add * as the key name and set its value to 1. You can find the official support article here on Microsoft's website.

    • VidCoder 12.20 by Razvan Serea VidCoder is a DVD/Blu-ray ripping and video transcoding application for Windows. It uses HandBrake as its encoding engine. Calling directly into the HandBrake library gives it a more rich UI than the official HandBrake Windows GUI. VidCoder can rip DVDs but does not defeat the CSS encryption found in most commercial DVDs. You’ll need the NET 8 Desktop Runtime. If you don’t have it, VidCoder will prompt you to download and install it. The Portable version is self-contained and does not require any .NET Runtime to be installed. You do not need to install HandBrake for VidCoder to work. Feature list: Multi-threaded MP4, MKV containers Completely integrated encoding pipeline: everything is in one process and no huge intermediate temporary files H.264, H.265, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, VP8, Theora video Hardware-accelerated encoding with AMD VCE, Nvidia NVENC and Intel QuickSync AAC, MP3, Vorbis, AC3, FLAC audio encoding and AAC/AC3/MP3/DTS/DTS-HD passthrough Target bitrate, size or quality for video 2-pass encoding Decomb, detelecine, deinterlace, rotate, reflect, chroma smooth, colorspace filters Powerful batch encoding with simultaneous encodes Customizable Pickers to automatically pick audio and subtitle tracks, destination, titles and more Instant source previews Creates small encoded preview clips Pause, resume encoding VidCoder 12.20 changes: Updated HandBrake core to 1.11.2.
