[Official] Call of Duty: World at War

So where are the reviews at? I've been checking TeamXbox and they usually have their reviews up by now. I wonder if there are other NDAs that prevent reviews from coming out until after the release?

Yeah, I haven't found any reviews (for the PC version). Usually the reviews come out a few days before the game is released to generate buzz, but I haven't seen anything.

So I finally pulled myself together and completed the game. Last few levels were quite alright, look great and some of that signature 'epic' feel from previous Call of Duty games had returned. I still think they used a bit too many enemies, just felt like a million enemies were constantly charging you and you were pretty much pinned down in firefights constantly. But game did seem a bit better with those few missions and did raise the bar in comparison to Call of Duty 3, still a bit below Call of Duty 4.

I also unlocked Zombie Mode which I gotta admit is an absolute blast! Unfortunately there is only one specially designed map where you can play this mode but it's still a lot of fun. You start out in this abandoned, ruined building during night-time in some foggy environments. The house is barricaded and the waves of zombie attacks have to break down the barriers to get in, you can repair these barriers and receive points but you quickly realise it's pointless :p You get points for killing zombies and fixing up the barriers, these can be used for new weapons ( Hanging on the walls ) and buying access to new parts of the house, removing debris etc. The zombies come at you in waves, each wave there are more and more zombies and they move faster and faster.

Hand on heart I had more fun playing this map than the Left 4 Dead demo. You really get this 'fight for your life' feeling because there is no escape, the amount of zombies just keep increasing and all of sudden they start breaking through walls and everything is just chaos. I absolutely love and really hope to play with a few Neowinians in the future because this mode is awesome (Y)

Pure, simple fun in an light package!

Ok, that does it, where's the real Sethos and what have you done with him?

Apparently you've switched places with him and tarnishing his reputation for liking "good" games only :p

Just finished the PC campaign and I would give it a big fat MEH.

Well maybe 6/10.

The latter stages were pretty intense, the music score was good. All in all it was a solid shooter but it was just too much of the same routine, it also felt extremely linear and scripted especially after playing games like Fallout 3, Far Cry 2 and Crysis Warhead. The enemy NPC's seemed to really spam the nades too which became very frustrating at times and the friendly AI was downright useless.

My copy should be arriving tomorrow. I've recently started getting into playing on Xbox Live with friends instead of strangers and it's alot more fun.

I was going to change my order from the PC version to the 360 version because none of my friends will have the PC version. It was too late though the order already went through. :(

Started playing the competitive co-op mode last night. Got about half-way through the story-line. That's a blast to play (Y)

As the name of the mode suggests, you play through the story-line competitively against a friend for points. You can also complete XP challenges that count towards your MP ranking. There is also the option to not play for points as well, and just play through the story.

Can't wait to unlock Zombie Mode though. Want to finish the co-op mode first, then go back and play through SP. That looks and sounds like a lot of fun to play.

There's a co-op campaign in this?

Didn't know that, might be worth the rent then to play through.

COD4 didn't have co-op IIRC.

Is the whole of the single player campaign avaliable as a co-op campaign?

From what I can tell from what I played last night, yes. With or without competitive points. I dont know if you disable the scoring system, if it disables the XP earning challenges. I would assume not.

Also, from what and how I played it, you can start from any level. I just started from the first and worked my way up.

I think you need to complete them before unlocking them, I kept checking through the co-op list how far I got and maps were constantly unlocking.

That would make sense. I didn't try selecting a higher level than what I was on. Will try tonight just to see, unless someone else here tries it first.

    • I and many others did not vote to get out of the E.u because of Putin or Farage, we did so for our own reasons. You don't have to tel me what my own did or did not do when it comes to the E.U. The EEC is or was the European Economic Community, a different beast to what the E.U is now.The EEC was a mainly about trading, the E.U have gone far beyond that and as I have said before, is now more of a United States of Europe. The U.K did not vote to join a United States of Europe. Anyway, they did not want us in there in the first place, Charles de Gaulle stopped us joining as he claimed we didn’t agree with the core ideas of integration. He was not wrong and that is why we voted out of the E.U when the time came. I was not old enough to vote the first time. My only regret is that we did not have the referendum years ago and got out years ago. If we rejoined, we would have to agree to join the Euro and no doubt Schengen, agree with freedom of movement, we have enough problem with people coming over here as it is. i have no problem with people coming over here if they work and don't try to push their way of life onto us. The E.U has a currency, freedom of movement, an anthem a flag, a parliament, well they are there, not sure if they do anything. Don't sound like something that is just for trading. Oh yeah, also wanted a euro Army. How many stupid rules have the E.U made that we had to follow? I doubt I will see the Uk rejoin the E.U, which suits me. Oh yeah, my partner is Polish, she came over here before Poland joined the E.U and she got fed up of people just coming over here with ease, while she had to struggle. She is now a British citizen and have been for a fair few years
    • Hello, Paul. Thanks for the editorial. It was interesting. I'm going research more into the app and its concept. Of course, if you know me at all, you know that I'd say your articles needs some editing! I a;ways do, don't I? For instance, the article occasionally mentions a concept before defining it, e.g., relays.
    • Screamer is 50% off on Steam, making it £24.99 here in the UK: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2814990/Screamer/ You might remember the series from the mid 90s / early 2000s, this new game is also by Milestone who created the older games.
    • U.S. partially reverses Anthropic AI ban for Mythos but keeps Fable 5 off the market by Karthik Mudaliar Anthropic says that the U.S. government has finally allowed it to restore Claude Mythos 5. But of course, there's a catch. The rollout is again for a limited set of U.S. organizations that operate and defend critical infrastructure. The company announced this in a post on X (formerly Twitter). This does not mean that Anthropic's latest frontier models are back to normal availability. Fable 5, which was a tuned version of Mythos 5 for public release, remains unavailable. Anthropic said that it is still working with the government to expand Mythos 5 access and make Fable 5 available again, but there's no timeline. Reports from Bloomberg and Reuters say that this decision actually came through a letter from the U.S. Commerce Department. According to Reuters, this would allow more than 100 companies and institutions access to Mythos 5. Reuters also reported that Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick’s letter removes the need for export licenses for approved companies’ non-US citizen employees, as well as Anthropic’s own non-US citizen employees, while restrictions remain for organizations outside the approved list. Anthropic isn't alone with this kind of controlled rollout. OpenAI's newest model family, GPT 5.6, was announced just yesterday, but isn't available for everyone yet. In its announcement, OpenAI also said that access to these models is initially limited to a select group of trusted partners and organizations, with broader access planned later this year. Both of these cases show that frontier AI launches are no longer just ordinary product releases and more like slow and vetted deployments shaped heavily by the U.S. government.
