god, the prices here in the UK are immense.

i'd loved the mbp to have been about 1,200 GBP and the macbook to have been 800 GBP at standard configs :/

we're paying much more than you americans :/

Stupid question, but would the higher prices be because of VAT? Or does that not apply in this case. But I did read that it could be as high as 25%. :o

upgrading the memory for these new macbooks is gonna be very pricey... ddr3 is so expensive >.>

and whats this i read about the mini-displayport cannot handle hdmi connections to displays over 30"

There's no physical inches limit, just resolution limit of 2560x1600 on the external.

The new MacBook Pros are really nice, but I don't like the glossy screen. IMO, that's a huge mistake. It's refreshing that more manufacturers are making use of switchable graphics technologies, and no doubt other manufacturers will start pushing this tech. The new trackpad is also very nice.

Unfortunately, I guess it's impossible for Apple to not be smug and up their own ass whenever they do a keynote. As much as I would really like to get into Apple products, they, and their fans, give me more and more reasons to not like them.

They are part of the reason why there are so many users who have false negative perceptions of Vista. It's because of their annoying smugness, why I'm glad I ordered a Lenovo ThinkPad T500 today. Don't get me wrong, the new MacBook Pros are nice, but the T500 gave me a better value.

AUS $2099 for the basic MacBook, AUS $3199 for basic MacBook Pro.

Ouch, that blew any chances of me ever owning a Mac laptop :p I'm sticking with my Asus laptop, much cheaper and does the job very nicely  Still, come next year my work PC is been replaced with an iMac, so at least I'll get that :p :)

How the hell do you even replace the memory on these laptops? :s

Apparently on both models, you remove the hard drive and then there are screws where the hard drive sits that hold the memory. Undo these screws and you can swap out the memory.

Oh, I agree. Apple is one of those companies where I love their hardware and software, but not the corporate image. There's nothing wrong with their products or the way they build them, at least to me, I just can't stand the way they marke them. This is why I really liked their "Think Different" campaign, and wish they'd go back to it. Because back then, it was more about showcasing their products than talking endlessly about the competition.

You know, Apple has been giving Vista so much free advertisement, it's amazing Microsoft has to make ad campaigns at all. I've learned far more about Vista in Apple's ads than I have about Leopard.

ah, thanks for clarifying that... it didn't make sense to me at first.

Wow. What a ripoff the Macbook has become. I can see Macbook sales dropping like crazy after this.

its hard to say something is a ripoff when it has ddr3 memory, led backlighting, and dedicated gfx (in the macbook pro's case, dual gpus) for the price they are selling them at.

Interesting new touchpad features which should appeal to win/linux switchers. you can set corners as secondary click. (though I can't see why anyone wouldn't prefer double tap for secondary click)

Other gestures too: You can swipe four fingers to the right or left to switch between applications; four fingers motioning up accesses Expose, and four fingers down brings up the dashboard. Finally, applying three fingers lets you swipe through photos in the iPhoto application.

One thing I'm confused on... Does the MacBook still use an integrated graphics card? Or is the Nvidia GPU just that... a dedicated GPU?

It's integrated (shares from main memory), but a hell of a lot faster than any previous integrated offerings.

Really dissapointed in the [Australian] pricing of the new MBPs - after waiting so long it just feels like a kick in the nuts. au$4000 for a mac laptop with a decent discrete graphics card is ridiculous when Dell had a similar one a few months back for au$2000.

Oh well, I suppose I'll have to wait and see game benchmarks for the new Nvidia integrated chip otherwise just go with the Dell or other. :(

    • After enabling it in about:config, customize, density, compact; the toolbar/address bar gets smaller vertically. I enabled Nova, I notice the tab bar/title bar is a bit larger vertically now? Everything always becomes a waste of space.
    • Microsoft's Copilot Cowork now generally available with usage-based billing by Pradeep Viswanathan Back in March, Microsoft first revealed Copilot Cowork, a new agentic AI experience in Microsoft 365 Copilot through which users can assign tasks to AI to complete in the background. After testing the service with a limited set of customers in Research Preview for a few weeks, Microsoft announced the general availability of Copilot Cowork to customers in the Frontier program on March 30. Today, Microsoft announced the general availability of Copilot Cowork worldwide for Microsoft 365 Copilot customers. The company also highlighted that Cowork became the fastest-growing feature in the history of its Frontier program. Unlike regular Copilot Chat, Copilot Cowork can run complex, long-running, multi-tool tasks from start to finish in the cloud by using organizational context through Work IQ. When compared to Claude Cowork, Microsoft claims that Copilot Cowork will be 30% to 40% cheaper on average with its Microsoft 365 connector. For now, Copilot Cowork runs on Anthropic models, including Opus 4.8 and Sonnet 4.6. However, Frontier customers can now use GPT-5.5. Microsoft also announced Cowork 1, a secure fine-tuned model coming in the next few weeks, which is designed to handle everyday Copilot tasks at a lower cost. To access Copilot Cowork, a Microsoft 365 Copilot user subscription is required. Usage is billed separately through Copilot Credits, based on model use, context retrieval, tool calls, and runtime. Pay-as-you-go pricing is set at $0.01 per Copilot Credit. To offer IT teams full control over usage costs, Microsoft provides spending limits, usage alerts, user-level controls, reporting, and prepaid usage plans for organizations. Usage-based billing begins today. However, Frontier customers who used Cowork between March 30 and June 16 will not be billed until July 1, 2026. The Microsoft 365 Copilot app now includes a toggle to enter the full Cowork experience. Microsoft is also adding partner plugins, with Enosix, Harvey, LSEG, Miro, monday.com, Moody’s, Morningstar, S&P Global Energy, and TeamsMaestro available now. Adobe, Atlassian, Box, Canva, Databricks, and others are coming soon.
