Sony unveils world's thinnest TV

LONDON: Electronic giant Sony has launched the world's thinnest television, which has a screen as slim as a CD case.

The ultra thin TV, called the Sony Bravia ZX1, will hit the market in the coming January. The extraordinary creation was unveiled at the NEC's Grand Designs show.

"It really has a beautiful look to it. It's hard to believe that something so slim can produce such crystal clear picture," The Telegraph quoted Craig Bolton, from West Bromwich, West Midlands, who visited the show, as saying.

"It's amazing and I would love to see it hanging on my bedroom wall," he added.

The exceptional product is priced at a whopping 3,500 pounds. Christian Brown, senior product manager at Bravia LCD, Sony UK, said, "There is nothing else like this. It was conceived as a unique product, a true step forward, something that the most discerning consumer would instantly recognise as exclusive and desirable. Once you have seen it, other televisions no longer look the same."

used to work for sony... I educated best buy and CCity about tv technology so that they could go out and tell people what's what.

sony doesn't know where they want to be... i am sure their engineers just got high and decided they are going to make something no one really needs so they came up with this instead of trying to push LCD technology forward or coming up with something new altogether

Yeah they announced this a while ago if it's the same model I saw earlier. Not sure I'm keen on the inputs being located in an external wireless box but, to me it just seems like a bit of a reliability concern with the amount of data you'd want to be passing over that wireless connection to the TV. I'm sure it's fine but.

Note the external box used for inputs

I'm currently considering the Z4500 as my next TV (as it's named in Australia) along with the samsung ones but. Can't dream of affording this and the 200Hz of the Z4500 could turn out to be handy to have. Have to wait and see what they are like on release anyway. They also have the new XBR's using LED displays I believe in a more conventional form factor.

Actually, that's not too far from the truth. You missed the part where Apple came over supplying them with the stuff and getting high beyond all imagination with them.

well, it looks good for schools (when the price drops of course)

much better than changing projector bulbs and filters

<edit> I posted this in the completly wrong topic sorry, I was talking about the 82" LCD)

Dont most schools now have interactive Whiteboards? So it isnt that good for schools at all, considering a Touch-Screen Whiteboard does so much more :p

Whiteboards are a waste of money, I have them in my school, its about 2 grand each and it breaks so easily.

    • Apart from Early Hiccups on Windows 11 on first install on October 6th 2021 on my old Intel 10700 daily use Desktop PC at the time, used to have issue with Bluetooth suddenly no longer working and only fix back then was always another clean install--then would work for a while. Transition to 2024 when i decided to finally upgrade that system for better support for Battlefield 2042 and Battlefield 6 later on, opted for next daily use Gaming Desktop AMD Ryzen 7 7700X and Radeon 7800XT OC 16GB. No major problems at all with this desktop, OS was clean installed way back on 10/8/2025 not long after 25H2 released. Overall i've been happy with Windows 11 Pro from the start, even minor little quirks didn't sway me. Heck i even use Windows 8 and upgraded immediately upon release back then on my old HP P6-2133W Desktop, and while the specs of that machine didn't give me top notch performance--i still was able to do what i wanted to, without too many slowdowns. Windows ME i didn't use on any of my personal systems back in the day, kept those systems on 98SE til XP released, and grabbed that immediately on release date. Kept XP til Vista Released then upgraded immediately, kept Vista til Windows 7 released, then updated immediately again
    • Broadcom: dreadful company who is destroying VMware by pricing it out of the market.
    • To be fair, it wasn't going anywhere. Even when Windows Phone could run Android APKs, Google didn't want any of it so it'd never work and the same thing happened with Windows. It was never about the store or it's users, it was always the developers and who they aligned to.
    • Wake me up when this comes to PC. Until then... zzzzzzzz....
