Sony's "Home" virtual world for the Playstation 3 will be released on November 19th, after its delay twice already. It will go up against Microsoft's Xbox 360 "New Xbox Experience".

Interesting (but hardly surprising) that Sony decided to release Home on the same day Microsoft is purported to be releasing the New Xbox Experience, but which one are YOU most excited about?

Please note, you can't directly compare the two, they're almost entirely different things (The only thing they really share in common is they have an "avatar" system) but since Sony has decided to pitch Home against NXE, I think it's only fair we have a little poll to see what people are most excited about =D

I own both consoles, so I'm going to be pretty busy come that day, but I think for me the NXE clinches it because it'll generally make ALL my games better (Disk installs are what I'm most excited about, the party system looks pretty cool, too), whereas Home seems to only have support from a few games (Bit like trophies, I suppose) and I honestly can't see myself using it much (It looks a lot like Second Life or "There" to me and I have no interest in either of those). I'm hoping that home pleasantly surprises me, though, that'd be cool.

But what about you?

And should be an option for both anyway :p

No reason to choose one or the other when I own both systems (and updates are free), will make things better for both consoles IMO.

That thread isn't the same as this one. That thread is just about the Release date of Home, this thread is about Home and NXE facing off against each other, which will hopefully spark a healthy (CLEAN) debate about the two.

And if you don't want to pick either, click "null vote".

Both. Looking forward to NXE because it'll be nice to see a fresh dash on my 360 and I'm looking forward to checking out the new features. I'm also looking forward to Home because it's something new and will actually give me a reason to power on my PS3 - something I've not done for a while now.

If I had to make a choice, probably NXE because I tend to play my 360 more and having hard drive installs is something that will actually benefit my game playing.

NXE (Y)

Sony has consistently disappointed me with pretty much everything for the Playstation 3 so far, so I have little faith in HOME. Can already imagine having to walk around in snoozeville and downloading a new section every 10 feet just to look at some "pretty" water and move around a few couches in your apartment.

Fair enough, I'll revisit this thread once both are out to share my opinions on them :p

Looking forward to both, and I expect both to deliver.

NXE as I'm not a PS3 owner, but honestly, I'm not all that excited for the NXE as ultimately the console is about the games, and a new dashboard isn't going to change anything. A smoother guide is good but it's not like they had to produce a whole new dashboard for that. It'll be a nice upgrade, but not one I'm going to be taking a day off work for just so I can get it early.

I totally agree, I'm glad I haven't yet bought a PS3. Really considering buying one at all now, we'll see how much they are after Christmas. January Sales/Bundles FTW!

Anyway, I really cannot wait for the NXE release!

NXE i am most looking forward to.

Home does look ok but i am afraid it will fail like everything Sony has pushed out so far, Life with Playstation anyone? Home will be something like.....use it intially then after maybe an hour or two you get bored and never go back to.

NXE on the other hand, will be used daily.

i wonder if its possible to do the things like, you have things that link your facebook account with your myspace account... can there be also things which link your NXE to your Home if you happen to have a 360 and a ps3?

Nah theres won't be. But theyre too completely different services in a way. Ones an interface more or less to services which for the most part won't be new, just displayed in a new way. While Home is sort of a social interaction platform. I'm unsure what part you would want to inter connect besides achivements and the avatars themselves but they have different achivement systems and the avatars are handled differently between the two as well.

If Sony opens up Home and releases some sort of SDK for people to make their own content (As if it wasn't enough like Second Life...) then it'd be certainly possible to link some of your Gamer profile data in, but right now I don't think anything like that's been announced.

I'm more excited for NXE than Home for two reasons. The first being that I don't have my PS3 out here where I live for school, so I can only play it when I go back home. The second being that I've never gotten into the virtual world type thing that Home is going to be, so I don't know how much I'll enjoy it, if at all.

I don't own a 360 anymore, but they are totally different things tbh.

The 360 dashboard is just there when you boot up, it's comparison would be against a new XMB interface.

Comparing or even polling against Home is pointless as they are two totally different things, they don't serve the same purpose and as such will have different reasons for causing excitiment.

    • Qualcomm's new Snapdragon Reality Elite chip brings on-device AI to Android XR devices by Pradeep Viswanathan Qualcomm has been delivering dedicated SoCs for mixed reality and spatial computing devices for several years. The journey started with the Snapdragon XR1, followed by the Snapdragon XR2 in 2019, the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 in September 2023, and finally the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 in 2024. Today, Qualcomm announced a major upgrade with the new Snapdragon Reality Elite Platform, which targets premium mixed reality and spatial computing devices. OEMs can use this SoC to power both all-in-one video-see-through headsets and lightweight, tethered optical-see-through glasses. Qualcomm highlighted that the Snapdragon Reality Elite will power the next wave of Android XR devices coming later this year. These wearables will offer better visuals, improved power efficiency, and deeper on-device AI integration compared to the previous generation. The Snapdragon Reality Elite can deliver up to 48 TOPS of AI performance, allowing large language models and large vision models to run directly on the device for the first time. In addition to enabling new spatial AI experiences, these new AI capabilities will improve head and hand tracking, as well as see-through features. On the performance side, the Snapdragon Reality Elite offers up to 60% higher GPU performance, up to 30% higher CPU performance, and up to 160% higher NPU performance compared to the previous generation. The platform supports visuals of up to 4.4K per eye at 90 frames per second for sharper images and smoother motion. Qualcomm is also claiming significant efficiency improvements. The Snapdragon Reality Elite can offer up to 20% longer battery life under the same workload. More importantly, the chipset can run up to 12 degrees Celsius cooler under load, making headsets more comfortable for users to wear for longer periods. The platform also includes improvements to video see-through, featuring lower latency and better image quality. Qualcomm states that its EVA hardware block helps accelerate demanding computer vision workloads, improving how digital content blends with the real world.
    • Umm... GitHub continues to use AWS. That's the story, that's the headline. There's no "new" news here. GitHub continues to require additional capacity beyond the originally-planned Azure allocations. There's nothing special about this; nothing noteworthy. They're still using AWS' infra until the cutover is complete.

    • "just $100 per TB"? Just? Are we trying to make this seem like the new normal? Kinda weird to make it sound like that is not a ridiculously expensive asking price.
