I think everyone is over-reacting with the ads in the current climate.

Basically NW needs as much money as it can get right now, so if you can't stand box on your screen GTFO and go somewhere else for your news IMO.

The widescreen support however is a pain in the ass - I'd much prefer the site to expand like the forum.

Have you not seen our little toggle button? It's next to the mail icon on the top bar....

If you have a 24" monitor running at 1900x1200 you really need wide support.

Pro tip for NW as well: If you run your main page in wide support, the adds "feel" less intrusive as you're getting more screen real estate.

Bunching up the main page with the way the ads were setup was causing the outcries IMO (well some people will still moan).

It's all about having the design support the ads well, to make them seem less intrusive ;)

No, but when I close my Browser , the main page returns to normal. My question is why not just set it to wide screen and leave it that way??

I set it to widescreen and when i reopen my browser, it is in widescreen mode

maybe you need to clear out your cache and cookies?

No. The main reason to subscribe would be to help support Neowin & help keep the website going.

I despise ads as much as the next person, but no way will having ads stop me from being a subscriber or stop me from using Neowin.

The amount of news & computer help we get here is worth far more than the little amount of ads on the site; no matter where they are placed.

I hate the square ad in the middle, but it is there for a reason.

Also, some are forgetting, Neobond has proposed the idea of maybe having an ad-free option for subscribers, costing a bit more money. That idea is not finalised yet & may not happen, but it's nice to know there is thought of it.

My point is ads would just go away for subscribers.

Think about it...As a subscriber, do you ever click on the ads? It isn't like the ads being there are helping neowin, if you never click on them. I think that if you are a subscriber and are signed into neowin, they don't need to be there.

Guys how the hell are we ever supposed to maintain Neowin without ads for crying out loud.

This site isn't free to run you know, gawd.. think about everything else we give back for the "intrusion" of 3 ads per page!

We don't care about having the ad's but its the fact thats it in the article.

For example if you moved down the "imporant notice" section (currently displaying the podcast) to below the two little internal ads and gave it a differnt colour, you could put the Community activity and the news Filter/Poll section their and put the big ad in the sidebar up the top and it wouldn't intrude on the article.

Bit of a stupid thing to say isnt it? If it needs as much money as it can then its no good telling the visitors to go elsewhere is it.

My initial feeling toward the new frontpage design is that it feels like way too much is going on, its crammed, theres far too much information. I think that might be because of the right sidebar is now twice the width as it used to be. I'm not keen on the news feed; before you could tell each news item apart, it was very very clear. The new news feed just doesnt stand out enough.

      Media Player Classic - Home Cinema 2.7.2 by Razvan Serea Media Player Classic - Home Cinema (MPC-HC) is a free and open-source video and audio player for Windows. MPC-HC is based on the original Guliverkli project (which is no longer maintained) and contains many additional features and bug fixes. As the continuation of the original Media Player Classic, MPC-HC isn’t flashy but it works with nearly any media format. MPC-HC uses DXVA technology to pass decoding operations to your modern video card, enhancing your viewing experience. And MPC-HC supports both physical and software DVDs with menus, chapter navigation, and subtitles. Overview of features A lot of people seem to be unaware of some of the awesome features that have been added to MPC-HC in the past years. Here is a list of useful options and features that everyone should know about: Dark interface Menu > View > Dark Theme When using dark theme it is also possible to change the height of the seekbar and size of the toolbar buttons. Options > Advanced Video preview on the seekbar Options > Tweaks > Show preview on seek bar Adjust playback speed Menu > Play > Playback rate The buttons in the player that control playback rate take a 2x step by default. This can be customized to smaller values (like 10%): Options > Playback > Speed step Adjusting playback speed works best with the internal audio renderer. This also has automatic pitch correction. Options > Playback > Output > Audio Renderer MPC-HC can remember playback position, so you can resume from that point later Options > Player > History You can quickly seek through a video with Ctrl + Mouse Scrollwheel. You can jump to next/previous file in a folder by pressing PageUp/PageDown. You can perform automatic actions at end of file. For example to go to next file or close player. Options > Playback > After Playback (permanent setting) Menu > Play > After Playback (for current file only) A-B repeat - You can loop a segment of a video. Press [ and ] to set start and stop markers. You can rotate/flip/mirror/stretch/zoom the video Menu > View > Pan&Scan This is also easily done with hotkeys (see below). There are lots of keyboard hotkeys and mouse actions to control the player. They can be customized as well. Options > Player > Keys Tip: there is a search box above the table. You can stream videos directly from Youtube and many other video websites You can stream videos directly from Youtube and many other video websites Put yt-dlp.exe or youtube-dl.exe in the MPC-HC installation folder. Then you can open website URLs in the player: Menu > File > Open File/URL You can even download those videos: Menu > File > Save a copy Tip: to be able to download in best quality with yt-dlp/youtube-dl, it is recommended to also put ffmpeg.exe in the MPC-HC folder. Several YDL configuration options are found here: Options > Advanced This includes an option to specify the location of the .exe in case you don't want to put it in MPC-HC folder. Play HDR video This requires using madVR or MPC Video Renderer. After installation these renderers can be selected here: Options > Playback > Output Ability to search for and download subtitles, either automatically or manually (press D): Options > Subtitles > Misc Besides all these (new) features, there have also been many bugfixes and internal improvements in the player in the past years that give better performance and stability. It also has updated internal codecs.       No problems here using the new Outlook. In our company we started to default installing to users on new computers or when we're reimaging. But, if the user needs/ask for the classic one, we install it. Low reject rate at this point.

      Yeah it's my only home/business computer. The Surface Pen magnetic Storage is on the left side, but it doesn't charge the Pen. I do the charging once every 6+ months by interchanging between 2 rechargeable AAAA batteries and charging the other via a USB A battery charger.

      I have NO problem restricting minors having access to apps. Personally, I'd like to see the restriction extend to smartphones too, but that should be the parents anyway. But on the restrictions ? GOOD LUCK enforcing that. Between VPN's, side loading and what not, I'm sure kids will find a way around it.
