Vista Style Builder Released

Recommended Posts

Before I consider purchasing, does anyone know if this is a pay once deal and any future updates are free offer, or will we have to keep paying for future versions.

This is great news indeed. Would definatly buy it if it IS as good as it looks and...if I actually had the time to make skins but lack that currently but sure this will bring a lot of nice stuff to us Vista users.

It's neat, but no trial? Really?

If anyone buys this (?16.50), please tell us about it. I'm not ready to splurge that amount of money on something that I have never used.

He also explicitly states that he won't answer any questions unless it deals with bugs...

No trial = warez version

for all we know this app could be the greatest thing or the biggest pos......

for $16.50 im not willing to gamble on it

Wow, the lengths people will go to to justify pirating software. Why not just be honest and say your a cheap a-hole and screw little indie developers?

Well it's not a POS as I bought it and got the program + key by email within 15min. of ordering.

There are a few bugs that I will be reporting to the author. Nothing major, though.

I've had a beta of the program a while ago, and im telling ya - it is handy! I've always hated Segoe UI in Aero, and with Vista Style Builder i managed to change EVERY font to Tahoma, size 8.. you may think "meh lol" but trust me, the program has a lot of features and you can do so much with it that'd take ages by hex editing and ****.

Actually that is euro's... so yea about $22.

A trial version would have been a good idea to broaden your potential customer possibility.

How well does it's "import from XP msstyles" feature work? I'm curious to see what the output looks like...

Window frames and the Start menu don't work perfectly. Controls seem to work really well. For me that's a big plus as so far very few styles change the UI widgets.

Time for all you designers to start making better Vista themes so I can finally dust off my copy of Vista :p .

idas (or a mod) it'd be better to use an up to date image. Rather than one that's probably during the first builds.

Version 1.0.4 Released as of Oct 20th, 2008.

Version 1.0.4 has just been released to fix a major bug with Dwm Window images. It is recommended to download and install the new version.

Changelog 1.0.4:

* FIX: Dwm Window images would come out slightly darker due to an alpha conversion bug, this has been fixed (thanks to Kerry for reporting).

* FIX: Some Part and State names where incorrect. (thanks to Kerry and Panda X)

* FIX: A small bug with StyleHacks made some properties have a wrong color

---

Yes it's legit for those who are weary.

If you have questions on how to add certain parts email me at thepanda@longhornfusion.net

For those who might be wondering what all you can do, here's a little fun gathering of things I created while I had free time from bug testing and naming things for it.

Taskbar glow.

Start Menu glow + Composited Programs list.

IE Text Glow (Note: IE8 doesn't read from the theme as much as IE7. Glow only works on hover in IE8.)

Address bar glow (Overkill on the opacity in this screen. Opacity is adjustable.)

Wow didn't know you could make those kinds of changes to Vista's themes..

Again I believe there needs to be a trial version, not as many people will buy this if there isnt, and not a crippleware, a real trial version.

No trial = not shareware.

What's better than backing off customers with false advertising?

And, also, ads on the "buy now" page?

Did not want to be rude, but..

Yeah I know, right? :/

Here you go :) only tweak is the border padding was set to 0.

As you can see it's pretty good but not perfect. It is though an excellent base to work from.
