[Official] Left 4 Dead

Recommended Posts

I play this game on average one map a night, always 4 v 4 co-op online. though i do some 4 player expert modes at times, those maps take AGES

It's a lot of fun, the maps may be the same, but the attacks are constantly changing.

I think valves AI does a great job of making the levels constantly challenging and interesting.

Online play with friends is the best way to experience this game, and campaign should only be played to learn the layout of the levels

Well, Left 4 Dead was fun while it lasted. But it appears that you're going to have to deal with some serious douchebaggery at some point during one of your versus mode romps.

Reader Mario wrote to us with a distressing tale, saying "Versus mode is a blast, but recently, I joined a game and found myself in a safehouse at the beginning of a chapter. Suddenly, about 30 witches spawned in the safehouse with me followed by two tanks." How? Console command-style hackery that can be used on the Xbox 360 version. Cute when it happens to the next guy, but probably not to you.

You can see it in action in the clip above, which will also unfortunately tell you how to do it. We're contacting Valve to see if it's taking action to address Left 4 Dead cheating.

Shouldn't that be "can't be used on the X360 version"? :/

Looks like Valve is pushing a patch for the xbox 360 so people won't be able to use these mods anymore

http://kotaku.com/5106645/left-4-dead-anti...ed-for-xbox-360

Valve has issued a server-side fix to stop cheaters from taking advantage of Left 4 Dead exploits on the Xbox 360. Reported cheats allowed players to spawn infinite items and enemies in online games.

A follow-up statement from Valve says that the fix has already been deployed to address cheats on dedicated Xbox Live servers, which accounts for the majority of co-op and versus mode play.

Shouldn't that be "can't be used on the X360 version"? :/

The exploit was that it allowed console users access to console commands :p

And since that was unexpected, the server did no checking of what commands it could and couldn't run, i.e. imagine sv_cheats was always set to 1

Edit: To be more precise, it allowed console users to bind console commands to buttons, they couldn't access the console but they could bind "give molotov" to a button which they would then spam while holding down the fire button

Yeah I soon read up on it after posting. Pretty interesting they left it intact on the console version and it actually worked!

Would have been pretty cool to use it in Private matches where you can just mess around with the settings.

Looks like there is a new exploit for all versions of Left 4 Dead. Apparently, in VERSUS mode, when you are the Boomer or Smoker, you can move objects and block doorways and potholes with objects (i.e. forklift). There is no way for the survivors to continue once it has been blocked successfully. I seen this done on the No Mercy levels. Guess Valve will have to be contacted on this one as well. :)

Valve has been pretty slow on fixing the problems with Left 4 Dead when compared to some of their other games, like TF2.

They're busy on so many projects at the moment. I know a lot of the TF2 team had to go help the L4D team. No idea what project they're primarily on at the moment.

It now looks like the same product, not a separate dashboard. Pairing is one tap and zero typing: the generated WebUI password is now copyable, and the QR code carries the credentials — scanning it from your phone logs straight in (no typing the IP or password), then drops the credentials from the address bar. Search Two new providers: RuTor (CIS sources, no login, via a public TorAPI relay) and Torrents-CSV. Results are sorted by seeders (healthiest first), and each search now times out after 15 s so one dead provider can't hang the UI. Files & trackers Per-file priority is back: right-click a file in the detail panel to set Skip / Low / Normal / High. Rename an individual file inside a torrent (double-click or the file menu), separate from renaming the torrent. Remove a tracker from a torrent (the ✕ on a tracker row); adding was already there. Smart Paste on Ctrl+V — paste a magnet, a 40-char info-hash, or a .torrent URL straight from the clipboard and it's added immediately (text fields still paste text normally). Covers & titles Anime fansub naming ([Group] Title - NN) now resolves to the right show. Audio channel layouts in titles (DDP5.1, 7.1, …) are stripped so they don't pollute cover matching. Under the hood The legacy QWidget interface is gone. QML had been the only UI since 3.0.0 (reachable old code lived behind a hidden --legacy flag); with parity confirmed, the entire QWidget layer — main window, every dialog, the theme manager — was removed (~13,400 lines). The four restored actions above were features that backend already supported but the QML port had never wired. macOS: the WebUI password hash moved out of the keychain into app settings, so launching the app no longer pops a login-keychain password prompt on unsigned builds. The actual password still lives in the keychain. Cleanup: ~400 orphaned translation strings and a batch of dead code removed; internal duplication collapsed; an ARCHITECTURE.md added for contributors. Unit / security / memory tests and the ASan/UBSan/TSan sanitizers stay green.
