[Official] Left 4 Dead

Well I don't see them charging to unlock versus on all the campaigns. You've already paid for them and obviously it's on the disk it's just in a "locked" state that you can't choose it from the Versus menu.

Nah, they aren't included with the game.

Even then, it's MS that wants money, Valve would gladly give away the updates for free.

I wouldn't count on any major game updates being free (not including fixes, patches and updates to support for new features that you haven't purchased yourself). This is probably the biggest problem I have with the 360 since I got it earlier this year.

I don't know how much longer I'll have my copy of L4D. I mean, sure, killing zombies is fun, but it's only so much fun. TF2 on the other hand....

All of Battlefield Bad Company's DLC have been free on XBL. This includes 4 new maps, Conquest mode, and weapons. I know it wasn't developed by Valve but DICE made a good effort to make everything free. I know Valve runs on the same motto. And both games are published by EA, so I'm very optimistic that new DLC for Left 4 Dead will be free.

Well then there's hope, but I'm nearly as optimistic.

Heh, is it just me or does Left 4 Dead get boring...quick.

I got all my buddies to buy it on pc, and we mess around and play together but all of them stopped playing after a few weeks, and even I have to say I'm bored.

There are only 4 missions and once you've played each one 5 times you pretty much know whats going to happen and where...The only uncertain thing is where the witches, tanks will appear.

I just hope valve hurries up and releases an official dev kit so we can get some quality maps. And a server browser would be nice too. I just don't want them to finally come out with a dev kit, game fixes, etc. And everyone already put the game down. :/

New DLC is coming soon.

I wanna see a new Special Infected.

I want to see a kid zombie who runs insanely fast and can do really quick swipes.

I don't know how anyone can get bored of Versus mode.

Also, if you're getting bored of the campaign, just up the difficulty. Or maybe the people you're playing with just aren't fun.

game was kind of ruined at christmas time lots of people got the game as a gift but have no idea how to play the game and just jumped into versus mode

so i pretty much get stuck with 7 completely new players who don't get the concept of a co-op game and just do stupid **** to ruin it for everyone else i'm sorta glad my internet is capped so i don't have to deal with l4d players and slow servers

hopefully by the time my internet recovers all the christmas players have learnt how to play or gone to another game so i can play with decent people again :)

Could be that EA or Dice is covering the cost of the update instead of MS letting it be free... and as cool as free updates are I don't want Valve going bankrupt cos of MS being gay. :\

Has anyone seen how many of the 'crescendo' (sp?) events you can skip now? Its insane. :p

My older brother has this game and he seems to play it a lot also my uncle has became obsessed with Zombies and is now some kind of Zombie fanatic.

As for me I will most likely barrow it from my brother ween I get some free time but to tell the truth the only other Zombie Game that I have played is Resident Evil 4 and those were not technically Zombies more so parasites that take over human bodies.

There is already a server browser in L4D, the problem is that it doesn't work well (technically it does, but the "experience" isn't good).

And the director controls how often zombies spawn, where, etc., not just tanks and witches (if you're replaying the map and everything is in the exact same location, something's wrong)

Nah, they aren't included with the game.

You misunderstood my post. I'm talking about the original campaigns on the disk already, not the new ones coming in DLC. We shouldn't have to pay to unlock the originals.

The game does get boring after a bit, I mean its good fun when you haven't played for a while, but I couldn't play it day in and out. Like I said, especially with only 2 campaigns unlocked in Versus, you're only limiting the game even more than it already is. Its awesome fun when you get a good match going though.

director zombie spawns are just kinda predictable at the moment its not a very smart ai it spawned a witch on top of me....

it spawns tanks in poor locations aswell i was given a tank at the start of the game...near the end of the map by the time i got anywhere near the survivors i'd lost my turn should of punched a zombie ><

same thing just happened to me.

spawned as a tank at the very end of the leevel in a dead end, some guy yelling at me on the mic while im trying to find my way there. then lost my turn :(

Again, they aren't on the disk.

The original release only contains 2 campaigns in the versus format (the maps are different*), they aren't on the disk in any way, shape or form.

* e.g. on one campaign map, there's an area that allows you to bypass a section of the map with zombies in it, that's not there in the versus version, it's to force players to encounter human controlled zombies.

same thing just happened to me.

hehe yeah i've played the game alot but running from the end of the map to the start is kind of a challenge can easily get lost i found it funny i was playing a game and for every game (all 5 stages x 2 (for each team))

we had an early spawn tank that spawned close...really close

we would star teh game run outside safe room (or if we hanged around for a few seconds) and a tank would be on its way totally screwed us every time lol narrow alleyways are no place to fight a tank i think the director is just bugged :p

From what I've played the Versus maps are exactly the same as the Campaign ones :s

Can you give me an example of this? I'm interested to see for myself. My mistake though if thats indeed the case.

the versus maps have been tweaked and are different to the co-op

an example would be the first stage of mercy hospital if you have a look you'll notice the air conditioner units are missing (a shortcut in co-op mode) also more buildings have roofs in versus mode compared to co-op because special infected have free roaming abilities (hunter can go virtually anywhere)

also theres usually less doors in versus mode where survivors can spawn (there is a command that you can revive survivors even in versus mode which is kinda fun for mucking around)

but yeah the changes are subtle main thing is more medkits

Ok I haven't noticed those differences, but even still, it's not a completely different versions of the maps. Both versions of the maps are using largely the same resources with minor differences. We'll be able to tell when we see the download size of the DLC. If its some substantial then you know you've had to download the entire maps. If its small you're basically just unlocking it with tweaks to the original code.

The smallest map in Left 4 Dead (l4d_airport05_runway) is 8MB, the largest (l4d_smalltown04_mainstreet) is 38MB

The maps only contains the level geometry, collision data for static props, light maps, and some small texture data (cube maps and such). The difference between l4d_hospital05_rooftop and l4d_vs_hospital05_rooftop is 0.1MB.

Edit: The maps are going to be around the same size, give or take a small amount, so you're going to download a whole new campaign's worth of maps for the vs. update.

The difference between l4d_hospital05_rooftop and l4d_vs_hospital05_rooftop is 0.1MB.

Ok there goes my idea out the window lol, but there is a difference in size :p

Like I've said though, its mainly using the same resources regardless of the mode, so its not really fair to charge for them either way.

    • Microsoft Weekly: Surface Laptop Ultra, Windows 11 context menus, Build 2026 recap, and more by Taras Buria This week's news recap is here, with Microsoft announcing the new Surface Laptop Ultra, fresh chips from NVIDIA for Windows on ARM, a no-build week, fixes for Windows 11's context menus, gaming news, reviews, and more. Quick links: Windows 10 and 11 Windows Insider Program Updates are available Reviews are in Gaming news Great deals to check Windows 11 and Windows 10 Here, we talk about everything happening around Microsoft's latest operating system in the Stable channel and preview builds: new features, removed features, controversies, bugs, interesting findings, and more. And, of course, you may find a word or two about older versions. At Computex 2026, together with NVIDIA, Microsoft announced the Surface Laptop Ultra, its most powerful laptop to date, powered by NVIDIA's RTX Spark processor. Details about this computer are currently scarce, as Microsoft has only revealed certain parts of its specs. So far, we know that the computer has a 15-inch mini-LED display, a rich set of ports, a powerful processor, and all-day battery life. It also comes with a new wallpaper, which you can already download here in full resolution. The Surface Laptop Studio is not the only NVIDIA-powered Surface, which Microsoft unveiled this week. At Build 2026, the company also debuted the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, an odd-shaped desktop with a 20-core NVIDIA Grace CPU and an NVIDIA Blackwell RTX GPU with 6,144 CUDA cores and fifth-generation Tensor Cores with FP4 precision, connected via the NVIDIA NVLink-C2C chip-to-chip interconnect for high performance. According to Microsoft, it can run models with up to 120 billion parameters locally without relying on cloud GPU infrastructure. These two new Surface devices are likely to cost quite a lot, and for those who need a more affordable device, Microsoft is preparing the next-gen Qualcomm-powered Surface Pro and Surface Laptop. This week, details about these two devices leaked in plenty of detail. Other announcements at Build 2026 include the following: Microsoft unveils new security tools for IT admins and developers building AI products Microsoft announces Scout, an OpenClaw-powered personal agent for enterprise customers Microsoft unveils MAI-Thinking-1 reasoning and MAI-Code-1 coding models Microsoft announced a new Windows 11 native command-line utility Microsoft unveils Majorana 2 quantum chip, accelerating commercial timeline to 2029 Microsoft believes that AI agents will eventually replace apps through Project Solara Microsoft introduces Web IQ, a Bing-powered search system built for AI agents Last week, Microsoft released a new Experimental build, which introduced a major Start menu upgrade. It now lets you toggle off specific parts of the menu without affecting other features, resize the menu, and hide additional UI elements. We published a closer look here, so if you want to know what Microsoft is cooking without enrolling in the Insider program and installing unstable builds, check it out. Speaking of new features, many users are very annoyed about the way Microsoft delivers them. Recently, a frustrated user shared their experience with gradual rollouts, and even Microsoft engineers admitted there is a flaw in the system that prevents new features from applying properly. One of those new features includes the ability to uninstall AI models in Windows 11 with a single click. Windows 11 is finally getting fixes for its slow context menus. Marcus Ash from Microsoft confirmed that the company is working on fixing Windows 11's context menus. Reworked context menus are going to be faster, simpler by default, and "configurable to what you use most." According to Marcus, Microsoft will share more details soon. Windows Insider Program Windows 11 preview builds, released last week, are now available for download as standalone ISO files. These days, Microsoft regularly pushes new images, allowing users to clean-install its recent Windows 11 preview builds faster and easier. If you want to try the latest Windows 11 features without jumping through the Windows Update hoops, get those new images here. Sadly, Microsoft did not release new Windows 11 preview builds this week. Come back next time. Updates are available This section covers software, firmware, and other notable updates (released and coming soon) delivering new features, security fixes, improvements, patches, and more from Microsoft and third parties. Microsoft is preparing new features for Teams. Later this month, the messenger will receive a new download manager with auto-dismissing notifications, reducing clutter and making the overall experience less annoying when dealing with downloads. Mozilla released Firefox 151.0.3, a new bug-fixing update for the browser. It is a small release, which fixes problems with pasting into text fields and the oversized VPN button on the toolbar. However, the front-facing USB Type-C is data-only, and there are some quirks with the computer's memory, so check out the full review. The AMD RX 9070 GRE has been released worldwide, and we published a benchmark review comparing this powerful graphics card to the RX 9070 XT, 7800 XT, the NVIDIA RTX 5070, and RTX 4070. It has solid, balanced performance, plenty of RAM, and low temperatures, but watch out for mediocre ray tracing performance and not the best efficiency. Also, we reviewed the Cuktech 10 Ultra, a compact, high-power charger with four ports and a big display full of various stats. This tiny charger can pull nearly 120W and spread that power according to each connected device's needs. It also comes with a high-quality 240W cable, three power modes, and retractable prongs. The best part? It is quite affordable, just make sure you have an outlet placed in the right spot to benefit from the built-in display. • Let's goooooooo! I've been loving the entries so far! I still have to finish Rebirth (things have been busy!)! Excited for this next installment.
    • "Revelation?" I was hoping for this episode to be called "Reunion". Oh, well... In a related note, the Final Fantasy VII compilation has received an EC entry, short for Ever Crisis. For those who don't know, it already had AC, BC, CC, and DC entries, short for Advent Children, Before Crisis, Crisis Core, and Dirge of Cerberus. I hope it doesn't get an FC entry becaude that would be a freakin' crisis.
