what is this for?

You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. This update is provided to you and licensed under the Windows 7 Pre-Release License Terms

gotta wander why ?

it is not even beta 1

It looks exactly like Vista all over again. They should realize they need a completely new os. If people see it's Vista, they're going to say screw it.

and what wrong again with vista GUI to begin with (i know they will make some change at some points )

People would also say 'screw it' if they lost all compatibility with their existing programs and games.

It looks exactly like Vista all over again. They should realize they need a completely new os. If people see it's Vista, they're going to say screw it.

This is due to the fact that Microsoft released a emergency patch today for all versions of Windows with critical impact. Only Vista and Server 2008 are listed as important. As Windows 7 shares the same code base they need to patch the current versions of the OS out in the hand of limited testers and TAPs.

Here the link to the KB article which has the same KB number (958644) for Vista and Windows 7. Plus the issue with Vista was never security, it was more to do with performance and application compatibility.

Edit: Added KB number

Well, it was bound to happen sometime. I'd rather they catch this stuff while in beta anyways rather than after release if possible. :D

what make me puzzled who come it affected all version of windows

that suppose to mean it is being there for 6+ years

This gives new meaning to the words: 'world record'. At least they are patching it instead of letting it hang around or escalate into something serious.

A completely new os? new kernel? no.. Vistas is fine.. besides.. they dont start out by changing the interface, comeon wake up.

So people actually realise what the guy what responding to, it was:

in the other news

vista sp2 leaked in the wild :)

No "beta" in there. Now, can we get back on topic.

It is odd that it affected so many versions of Windows, but I'm glad they didn't wait for a patch tuesday.

This is true; the UI is one of the last things they do; I guess a lot of folks don't remember how much Longhorn looked like XP until MS actually unveiled Aero. :)

    • I'm not unblocking my camera for this crapola. Sorry, Google.
    • Ummmm that is what is it supposed to do. Just turn if off in settings if you do not want it analyzing your open tabs. Chrome does the same thing with Gemini. Sarfari will do the samething after Apple's AI and even more so with the release of their 27 versions that is now powered by Googles LLM/ML models. Understanding why it is doing it and how it can help you vs jumping to some conspiracy theroy is a much better approach. As long as it can be turned off, all is good. Yes the default should be off but the a lot of people would never discover these features.
