FarCry 2 - where are all the animals?

Recommended Posts

This isn't a complaint, more an observation. FarCry 2 pushed the whole 'set in Africa' thing... and screenshots showed very cool looking environments - and African wildlife. But playing the game, it appears that Africa is full of rebels (so people) and hardly any animals. What do others think?

I'm running the game at full graphics, and yes I have seen a few animals...

I agree that they were likely taken out to avoid potential cruelty (and I can agree with this wholeheartedly). However, I also don't see why they couldn't be put in and just be not-shootable or damageable (but still run away from gunfire noise or fire). I think that would have been a good compromise.

At the same time, no one raised a fuss over Oblivion having deer, wolves, and bears (among other animals) you could kill (except for the deer, usually in self-defense). There's also the old Deer Hunter games, too...

Ah, heck, I dunno. I can see why they took 'em out, but its not like it hasn't been done before either.

Doubt it. You can shoot dogs in Call of Duty: World at War. I don't like doing it, as I love dogs, but it's there.

That was in CoD4 as well. Made me jump about a foot the first time one jumped on me! I didn't like killing them either, though getting my throat ripped out a few times eased the guilt ever so slightly (besides, its a game, not life. I love dogs, too, but I'm not against defending myself. :p ).

I like the idea presented in that link listed earlier about predatory animals possibly being added. That would be cool. It'd be downright wicked to see herds of wildebeests charging though the open plains. :D

    • This is listed as a preview in WU for me. I usually don't grab them as previews; what's your opinion on it so far?
