GTA IV for PC (official)

Recommended Posts

I'm sure a patch is in the works. GTA IV still doesn't support SLI/CrossFire configurations. Dual GPU video cards do not run the game properly too.

Actually, crossfire does work. SLI doesn't but will do in an upcoming patch and driver update from nVidia.

Also bare in mind that the same file mentioned that current generation hardware will run the game on medium settings and the higher settings are reserved for 'future generations' of hardware. Meaning, Rockstar are just saying there's nothing wrong with the game, there just isn't hardware that's good enough to run it on the highest settings yet.

It doesn't seem the highest settings make the game look that more amazing than the console versions.

oh please !

when they got stuck , they just say future use . BS

Yes yes, but is it any good?? I doubt my old dual core 6300/2gig ram/nvidia 7900 256mb will be able to run it, mind. But I would like to try it once i upgrade since i refuse to buy a console!

For the record, Tomb Raider: Underworld is thoroughly unplayable on my pc aswell :(

Just a note, I was reading around on other forums and if you think about it PC version does run better,

detail distance of 22 = console

view distance of 10 = console

360 res = 1280x720

settings = less then medium

so running the game on PC

at 1680x1050 = 50% increase in pixels

at high settings

with detail distance of 70-100

view distance of 30-40

and you get an ave 25fps which is about what console gets, although there are many places where the console's frame rate goes well below 20fps.

If you set your resolution to 1280x720 you can set the rendering to high and max out the viewing and detail distance

Yes there are some bugs to be worked out but is goot that R* gave you the option to max out details as you get better hardware.

They could have just made a default setting so that everyone is running the game at lower res and lower details so you can get higher frame rate.

I do hope though that they resolve the multiplayer bug.

Cheers

The Xbox 360 runs the game at 1280x720? You sure?

Yes, Xbox 360 runs the game at 720p native. The PS3 on the other hand runs the game 600p native, though with added filters to 'improve' the graphics.

And I gotta say, this is a horribly optimized port and they need to start sorting out their god damn servers! 12 hours ago my copy failed authentication, now I just can't connect to Rockstar Social Club, means still no saving under the Steam version.

OH MY GOD. this is the most poorly optimized crappy port I have ever played. SHAME on rockstar. I get like 20 fps and the game looks like crap and is all jagged and has no aa.

the console has 2xaa while the pc has none and you can't force it making the pc version look like a jagged mess.

and what the ****. I have to run GFWL, and this stupid rockstar social app and steam just to play.

Uh, I'm no PC gamer but aren't the new GTA IV texture resolutions higher now? That could mean a bigger filesize and I'm sure that there are MANY more textures (indoors, outdoors, cars, people, buildings, etc) in GTA IV than compared to FarCry 2 (at least what I've seen of it... open land, many reusable textures). And there's the radio and the diverse environmental sounds in GTA IV which should also take up some more space than when compared to FC2.

Of course, I haven't played FC2 but only seen a few videos, so I should shut up. 13.5GB vs 2.5GB is still big.

the textures in this game look like absolute crap.

*Shakes fist* 640p! *Shakes fist*

That 40p means a world of difference

depends on your processor. it will run like absolute **** if you have anything less than a quad.

Not necessarily true, I have AMD Opteron 180 running at 2.8GHz 2 GB RAM and 9600GT 512MB and the game runs pretty smooth at around 25FPS, on Medium Rendering and High Texture, and it does look good. HDR Lighting and reflections look great.

Now, I do expect some optimization with future patches and also I do expect them to fix the Social Club Login bug, but so far the game is fun to play and it looks great.

Woops, 640p then, sorry 'bout that :p

With a bit of tweaking, the game looks great and runs just fine so now I'm off to play :)

EDIT: I just love messing around with the video editor!

well it is just 1 hour and half

that too fast ! at least compared to me conection which will take a week full time to download the bloody thing lol

True, true. I should be happy about the fact that I only had to wait a total of 4 hours to download the game.

I'm getting over 30 FPS outside, so it's not a game limitation, definitely Vsync.

Game is looking better than ever and getting great performance, feel sorry for those who can't enjoy the game due to performance problems :/ Game is so much more fun when you got the mouse you constantly look around and can aim with the mouse as well, gets you out of some pretty tight spots a bit easier! Can't wait for them to sort out Social Club so I can start playing some Cops vs Robbers - One for All. Was impossible to find a decent game on the 360, would just end up as a lagfest, take hours to find a proper game and would just end too quickly.

Though looking around, so many people with performance problems are running Vista, any XP users with a below-expected performance?
