GTA IV for PC (official)

Well if it's worth anything I've scoured the web and read countless stories, replies, and comments stating that the game runs poorly. I've only come across a couple of thread posts stating that the game runs well. Anyway, I hope Rockstar is working on a patch.

Yeah but still doesn't prove anything, happens with almost every game out there, a slew of people having bad performance - This just suffers from it to a bigger extend, but who are we to tell the statement "Small numbers" is incorrect?

And how many exactly would post on the forums the game is running great? Classic example of the unsatisfied people having a louder voice than the satisfied people.

Not saying there isn't any problems with the game, even Rockstar acknowledges it but a few people on some forums is no way a solid statistic when you are missing 10 other pieces of the puzzle.

people dont have to just use the forums, there are tech support numbers when i spoke with R* yesterday in the UK i was on hold for a good 20 mins and when i spoke to the guy they where swamped with calls, just because it runs fine for you it all well and good, but for the rest of us, we feel like we are being taken for a ride.

Well mine runs ok to be honest, I run it at 1360 768 on medium detail and high render quality. Not sure what fps im getting but it is definitely smooth enough. It could run much better though, and I don't think it currently looks better than the console versions. I'm glad that Rockstar have acknowledged the problem and are working on it. Im sure that with a patch from Rockstar and new drivers from ATI/Nvidia we will see this game running much better.

True, but think of it this way: What are the chances that all those people, with varying degrees of hardware and software, are experiencing issues with GTA IV? I'm not saying that there are 'X' number of people experiencing problems. It's the fact that issues are coming up across the board, regardless of what hardware you use.

Anyway, I recently ran the benchmark and got 22.05 fps. In my mind, that's absolutely pathetic with the hardware I have. Seriously, how the hell can a Core2Duo E6750 and HD 4870 pull 22 fps @ 1680x1050 in GTA IV? It doesn't make any sense to me. :/

well ive just been on the phone to R* for the past 40 mins troubleshooting and the guy who i spoke with confirmed my system 'should' be able to play this game at around 40fps, we spent 40 mins testing various items and ways but whatever setting i was running it was always around 20-22fps.

It's frustrating, I tell ya. The most we can do now is wait for a patch and enjoy the game as it is right now. I won't play any of the missions until Rockstar fixes the performance issues. I want to enjoy the game at its best.

i was playing for 2 hours or so, doing missions and then out of nowhere it crashes with error resc10

Yikes! I hope that doesn't happen to me.

To play at my native resolution (1650x1050), I literally have to turned down everything to it's lowest setting. That is ridiculous...

Don't you mean 1680x1050? :p I hear you though. I had to turn down some settings too.

Oh god I was hoping to play with my 2400XT.

Don't even dream about it. I get 31 fps @ 1680x1050 with an HD 4870.

I believe this has been mentioned before but hitting 'p' enables some sort of filter. It adds motion blur and a pseudo-depth of field effect (i.e. background blurring).

I know this won't be much comfort, but I'd like to thank you for that information. My specification is broadly equivalent to yours, and given what you've just said there's not a chance I'm buying the game.

This doesn't make me any less gutted about how this has turned out after I enjoyed GTA 3, VC and San Andreas so much on the PC though.

ReSC10 = Out of video memory

To anyone getting the error its not your fault, im getting the same crash even with a 2GB 4870x2, the game is broken.

Yeah, had that happen to me yesterday and I'm playing on a 4870 X2 as well.

Cy:G, what FPS are you seeing and on what settings?

is there any chance this will run on a 2.4ghz single core CPU (i got a AMD Athlon64 3500+ 2.2ghz overclocked to 2409mhz) ... i know dual core is minimum but i wonder if anyone attempted playing it on a single core.

besides CPU i meet or beat the minimum requirements.

Video card = Geforce 7900GT

RAM = 2GB

From what I understand, peds and vehicles are pretty CPU intensive, so even if the game allows you to install/play without a dual core cpu, you will probably not see a very good FPS. I would wait until someone verifies it. I actually have a single core P4 3.2 sitting next to me but it only has a 128mb graphics card so that wouldn't be a fair estimate.

    • Umm, read my answer again! If you have something to add or contribute, feel free. Otherwise my point was that you apparently dont want faster updates... so you want slower updates by process of elimination. If you have something to contribute, meaningful answers are better.
    • These features described above are good, but far from what developers will like the most. The main feature that developers will care and love the most it's called "Bring Your Own Models". It gives us the ability to connect to LOCAL AI models running on Ollama. The feature it's located on GitHub Copilot tab -> On the model picker where you can select "manage models" instead of paid models and then it will show you the "Bring your own models" window where you can now select Ollama and the endpoint of your local server. So if you have a beefy spec machine you can now use your own model 100% local inside Visual Studio 2026 18.7.0
    • Microsoft Teams is getting a controversial location tracking feature that users may hate by Usama Jawad Image generated with Microsoft Copilot Earlier this year, Microsoft planned to roll out a controversial location tracking feature in Teams, but following customer feedback, it decided to delay its release. The bad news is that the company has decided to launch it later this year, but it's based on roughly the same design that was shared earlier, which means that many users still have good reason to worry. Basically, Microsoft Places and Teams have received workplace check-ins via Wi-Fi. The idea is that if an employee arrives at the office and connects to their enterprise network, their profile status indicator will show them as being present in the office. For example, if you arrive at work, open Teams on your PC, and connect to the "Studio B" company Wi-Fi network, your Teams profile will indicate that you are present in "Studio B", as shown below: Microsoft says that this feature is basically a replacement for physical workplace check-in peripherals, it reduces the need to manually update your status, and it also enables co-workers to know that you're at work so that they can coordinate in-person meetings with you. IT admins can enable this workplace check-in capability at a tenant level, and users have the ability to control whether they want to enable it or not. Of course, all of that sounds great on paper, but naturally, many Teams customers may still have concerns, as they did before. This is because it enables your reporting manager and other members of the organization to track if you are at the office, when you arrive at the office, and where you are right now. This could be problematic for people who work in what they consider to be flexible work environments or hybrid setups, and this kind of location tracking could be considered an invasion of privacy. Microsoft has tried to alleviate some of these concerns by letting users know that they can manually set their location easily, which essentially overrides workplace check-in if they feel uncomfortable with it. However, that doesn't really solve the problem because your organization could enforce a workplace policy that mandates that this feature remains enabled. The Redmond tech giant has also assured users that this capability does not store historical data and is only a real-time indicator of location. Finally, it only generates a signal when you connect to a corporate network, which means that if you are working from home and connect your PC to your personal Wi-Fi, it won't broadcast your location to your employer; you will simply be shown as "Remote". Microsoft has encouraged IT admins to prepare for this change and begin informing users so they know what to expect once it begins rolling out later this year.
