GTA IV for PC (official)

Recommended Posts

no one likes a showoff lol

EDIT: on a side note this command line works for alot of people, thus not for me but feel free to give it a shot

Just tried that no change average 22fps with dips to 12-15fps

Core 2 Duo 2.5ghz OC'ed to 3.33Ghz

4Gb Ram

8800GT 512Mb

R* best fix this and quick, even Crysis Warhead ran better than GTA does....

I wish there was a demo available of this, I don't want to spend $80 just to find it's terribly coded.

And yeah, it could run better under DX9 mode, although if it does it's because Rockstar are being silly with DX10 mode, Vista's not at fault.

Funny you say that because FarCry 2 runs better in DX10 than it does in DX9.

Granted the benchmarks do use the latest video cards, but yeah games are starting to be better optimized for being run in DX10.

Maybe GTA IV will be the same way, though it's not looking that way so far :p

I'm assuming it already does run in DX10 mode, since there's a switch to force it to run in DX9 mode for Vista users.

But if you enable the switch and it runs better, then it's a sign that Rockstar's doing something wrong with DX10 support, since even just a straight port should run faster due to optimisations in the core API.

Here's what it says in the graphics settings documentation:

Most users using current PC hardware as of December 2008 are advised to use medium graphics settings. Higher settings are provided for future generations of PCs with higher specifications than are currently widely available.

It's safe to bet that we won't be hitting 60 FPS anytime soon. :/

Game is more than playable at less :)

I agree. I'd say it even runs well at 30 FPS. Fortunately, I can run the game at 31 FPS @ 1680x1050. It's the drops in FPS that get to me though. Perhaps it's my dual core CPU.

Anyway, is anyone up for some online fun later? I can play at 9:00am EST/2:00pm GMT.

PS: I've never played online yet. How do I find you guys on Live? Does it work the same way as Live on the Xbox 360?

I have a Dual Core to and is running at around 35-40 with no drops whatsoever.

Yes, you bring up the phone while playing and then you can create rooms or go to the lobbies to look for games.

I'd love to join but being in GMT +1 would mean playing in the middle of the night, not too fond of that :/ Though I can happily report the 'issues' from the console versions seems to have been fixed for the PC version. No more people skipping about or cars sailing on the road - At least i didn't see any of that in the few games i played, went butter smooth! It even registers hits properly now.

Thanks! By the way, I totally meant 9:00am EST and not 9:00pm EST. I believe that's 3:00pm CET in Denmark. You down? :p

well the bug i tested still worked, but it gave me 40gamerpoints so happy days, i just got 'One Man Army' by hiding in the subway for 5 minutes LOL

That's cool. I'm going to be home all day. Is anyone else up for GTA IV online at 9:00am EST/2:00pm GMT? It'd definitely be nice to play with some Neowinians for a change.

sure im up for that, add me to your friends list 'Unimatrix Xero' and i'll have a blast with you

Ugh! I'm having trouble setting up an account. Is it possible to change the primary e-mail address associated with your Live gamertag? I'd like to use my current e-mail address instead of my old one to log in. I don't have a working Xbox 360 with me so I can't do anything there. I've tried changing it on Xbox.com but it says "Sorry, this page is unavailable".

By the way, I'm talking about the e-mail address used to log into your Live account.

EDIT: I think I've figured out a way to do it. I'll need an Xbox 360 though.

    • Uhm, that's every business ever, though. It doesn't matter if a bajillion users are using it. As long as it's not making bank, it's probably headed for the graveyard.
    • Yeah Patchou was an active member here, good ol' times indeed.
    • Samsung is the new Google... they don't care if millions of people are using it.
    • Still no word on Tides of Annihilation...... so weird that it wasn't shown at the big Game Fest. Guess I'll put it in the bin like Judas and Squadron 42.
    • Samsung is shutting down yet another app used by millions by David Uzondu Samsung has announced that it is shutting down Samsung Max, its VPN service used by more than 50 million people, effective today. Samsung Max VPN, if you don't know, was an Android app born on February 23, 2018, out of the ashes of Opera Max, a very popular data-saving VPN that Opera had discontinued the previous year. Samsung bought the discontinued service, rebranded it, and added a native Samsung UI to fit the Galaxy ecosystem. The app could do things like compress images, help you manage background data on a per-app basis, reduce video data consumption, shrink music files, optimize webpages, block advertisement trackers in incognito mode, and encrypt your internet traffic on public Wi-Fi networks. Image via SammyGuru If you open the app now, you'd be greeted by a shutdown banner warning that all VPN, data saving, and privacy services stopped functioning on June 15, 2026. The creators failed to provide a reason for the shutdown, instead publishing a farewell note that read: "Thank you for being with us over the years. Your support and activity truly meant a lot to us and helped shape this app into what it became." This same message appears on the Google Play Store listing for the app as well. Max VPN is the latest service from Samsung to join the list of discontinued applications from the company. Just two months ago, the Korean tech giant announced that it is completely shutting down Samsung Messages, forcing millions of users to migrate to Google Messages by next month. The only devices that the shutdown won't affect are older smartphones running Android 11 or lower. Some of the features of Google Messages that Samsung hopes will entice users include AI-powered scam detection to block suspicious links, integrated Gemini AI tools to generate quick replies, custom chat bubbles, and universal RCS compatibility for sharing high-quality media with iOS users. The platform also offers seamless syncing across tablets and smartwatches. In addition to that, users gain access to message scheduling, smart classification, and automated category sorting.
