GTA IV for PC (official)

The patch is complete. They're waiting for Microsoft to authorise its release (Y)

sweet, btw i found these command line tweaks on the nvnews forum, (-norestriction -nomemrestrict -dx9 /high) added them to my game shortcut and now its playable at my monitors full res 1440x900. tried multiplayer but the fps were cack, but at least i can actually play some single player mayhem now.

can't wait for the patch! thanks for the heads up :)

Will this be the same fun-for-about-a-week snorefest that GTA 3 and 4 were?

Great concepts. Killed by the repetitive-gameplay monster.

I think IV is the best, I can't play III, VC or SA for a few minutes before getting bored, probably because they are just outdated and don't have the same content that IV does. Still classic games but not much fun anymore.

9800GTX, 3ghz C2D E8400 and Corsair 4GB PC6400 runs like a bag of sh*te. I should have taken note of this thread :( and gaystation will not refund cos my pc meets the specs :( what a waste of money.

just wait for the bloody patch, you have told me to wait and be calm, now you do the same :p

After running more tests with the 4870 X2... I'm getting on average about 2-5 fewer fps than with my 512MB 4870. Does that make sense?

Could be a bottleneck problem since this game is so CPU intensive. So instead of increased performance it's just holding back the card and thus creating a negative effect.

I'm probably talking out of my ass  Game is CPU intensive though.

Haha, well I know it's CPU intensive... but it's paired with a Q9450 and 8GB of ram, so I would think it would be alright. I haven't OC'd my Q9450 though. I wonder how much that would help.

Doubt it would, there is something at the core of this game conflicting with some hardware - My system is over 2 years old and game is running butter smooth at 35-40fps, does that sound right when a system like yours is struggling? Really hope Rockstar find out what the hell they screwed up and fix it soon.

Here's some tips from the GTA section of the Steam Forums;

1. Disable Video Recording ** This increases your frame rate dramatically. **

- Start the game and goto Press Escape > Game > Video Recording and set it too off. This will stop the hitching and provide a good boost to your frame rate.

2. Disable Superfetching in Vista

- Run services.msc > Superfetch > Properties > Startup Type: Disable > Restart your computer.

3. Disable Windows Search in Windows Vista

- Run services.msc > Windows Search > Properties > Startup Type: Disable > Restart your computer.

4. Disable all unneeded services / start up programs

- Start > msconfig > Check Hide all Microsoft Services > Uncheck everything you do not need. Goto Startup and disable everything (you do not have to disable Rockstar Games Social Club).

5. Full Screen Blur

- While ingame press "P" (confirmed to work for some people)

- Thread with Comparison Shots; http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread...023&page=17

6. Higher FSB (ADVANCED USERS ONLY)

- Lower your multiplier in the BIOS and increase your FSB to achieve stock clock rates for your CPU. This does lead to increases in frame rate. Going from stock 266x9 to 400x6 gave me a 7fps increase.

7. Install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5

8. Ensure Video Memory is GREEN

- Even with autoconfig settings sometimes you will be yellow, lower your draw distance until you are green. This also prevents the video memory crash error from ever happening.

9. Move pagefile to another Hard Drive that GTA 4 is not on.

- If you only have one HD this does not apply. This also should not matter if you have 4GB or more of system memory.

10. SLI Users; Disable SLI

- Nividia Control Panel > Disable SLI (or setup a profile to do it for you)

Will definitely try Number 1 (Y)

Managed to iron out all of the glitches and issues I was having and I now enjoy the game at 800x600 on the lowest settings for everything at 20fps. Doesn't sound that good, but when you consider I only have a 256mb 6800GS - that's pretty good going.

Will be buying a new graphics card soon (:

Want to play with your Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2? (or any other gamepad, also with any other "Windows Live" game with your button layout pre configured exactly like the Xbox 360 gamepad..)

Place xbox360cemu.ini into 'C:\Windows' Directory.

x32: Place xinput1_1.dll, xinput1_2.dll, xinput1_3.dll, xinput9_1_0.dll Into 'C:\Windows\System32' Directory.

x64: Place xinput1_1.dll, xinput1_2.dll, xinput1_3.dll, xinput9_1_0.dll Into 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64' Directory.

----------

To configure the DLL, you'll have to stick a file called xbox360cemu.ini into the C:\Windows directory.

See the sample INI for an example setup.

The INI file itself is pretty simple, you have a section [PAD1], underneath you have the key=value mappings.

The possible keys fall into a few categories, each with differently interpreted values.

The buttons simply have a positive integer assigned to them, indicating the index of the mapped button (starting from 1).

The keys for the buttons are:

A, B, X, Y, Left Shoulder, Right Shoulder, Back, Start, Left Thumb, Right Thumb, D-pad Up, D-pad Down, D-pad Left, D-pad Right

Analog sticks each have an axis assigned, again starting from 1. If you want to invert a particular axis, use negative indexes.

The keys for the analogs are:

Left Analog X, Left Analog Y, Right Analog X, Right Analog Y

Triggers can be assigned to a button, axis, or slider.

If the first character of the value is 'a', it refers to an axis, if it is an 's' it's a slider, otherwise it's a button.

The rest is the index, which is used the same way as in the previous two cases. The keys for the triggers are:

Left Trigger, Right Trigger

The last key is "D-pad POV", if you give it a value (starting from 1), the POV/hat-switch with that index will be assigned to the D-pad.

This settings work just like the xbox button layout should on the rumblepad. (you can change the buttons to your liking)

well in india, the original game is available from rockstar for $10 only. so u might just grab it from there instead of getting a demo.

Man, that is pretty cheap, works out $14.95 for me.

Even if it runs like crap, at that price it'd be worth it, now to find out if they ship to Australia...

Edit: No they don't, oh well.

Disable the game to spare the headaches.

Wow, just reading through this thread, seems like almost everyone except Sethos is having problems.

Should I bother with this game? I've got a Q6600 at 3 GHz and a slightly overclocked 8800 GT. My monitor's resolution is at 1280x1024.

The game runs acceptably for me and I have a Q6700 with a 4870 512 and 4GB of Ram.

This game runs better than most people say I think. Even sill, it will be much better when optimised graphic drivers are released and the game is patched up. Im not 100% happy with the way this game runs but I know that this happens and I know it can (and will) be improved. People need to stop moaning about every little thing that makes them unhappy. And why not accept the "designed for a computer that is in the future" excuse, Crysis had the same reason?

well an i7 based cpu will kick ass then

since it has twice more bandwidth then QX9770 (1600 mhz bus)

I wonder how many people actually accepted the "designed for a computer that doesn't exist" excuse.

It just seems laughable that they assumed that would be a valid explanation.

+1

yea when they got stuck with the job , they just say the mightest computer is week , while it run just fine in a weakling console

i don't really accept there excuse but it is unlike GTA4 which was a port

    • Linux 7.1 arrives with an NTFS overhaul and major hardware performance boosts by Paul Hill The founder of the Linux kernel has just announced the availability of Linux 7.1. This is a stable version of the kernel that will now be tested by various Linux distributions before it is shipped to users through update managers. Some users, like those on Debian, for example, might not get it for a long time, if at all, while Fedora users can expect it in the near future. With Linux 7.1 out on time, the merge window for Linux 7.2 is now open, giving contributors the opportunity to send in major new features that have been waiting for the last two months. Torvalds warned that he is currently travelling and will be in another timezone, so timing for the merge window may be irregular due to timezone differences and limited internet access. Torvalds said that he has already fetched early pull requests to allow him to do some offline work, but the travel could still cause disruption. Right now, he is not planning to extend the release, but did consider it. He said he might later regret not extending, though. In terms of this last week of development for Linux 7.1, Torvalds said there were no major or alarming changes. This week consisted mostly of smaller driver updates to GPU, networking, and sound, networking fixes, trace tooling fixes, and misc minor fixes. The shortlog this week lists fixes for driver bugs, memory leaks, I/O and USB fixes, networking and RDMA fixes, DRM/graphics fixes, and tooling and verification improvements. Specific fixes include USB series heap-overflow and buffer overflow fixes, and multiple use-after-free, memory-leak, and refcount corrections across subsystems such as i2c, zram, gpio, and net. There are fixes for graphics drivers, including amdgpu, i915, and virtio, as well as hypervisor and virtualization tweaks affecting mshv, vmbus, and hyperv. According to Phoronix, anyone running Linux 7.1 should look out for the new NTFS driver, Intel FRED for improved performance on Panther Lake and future CPUs, faster graphics with Intel Arc Battlemage, and improvements for older AMD Radeon GPUs. If you are running Linux on your computer and everything is fine, then you don’t need to worry about updating to Linux 7.1 as a priority; just wait for it to be pushed to you. If you have tried Linux on hardware but it didn’t work properly, trying again with a distro that uses Linux 7.1 could cause Linux to work on your machine, thanks to the new hardware support.
