I got mine working fine. If you're user name has a space in it, you've got to put your name in quotations (ex. "User Name") for it to work right. It works pretty good for me so far minus the stuff that's just missing in this build compared to the newer builds. But yeah, make sure you're in C:\Windows instead of C:\Windows\system32 or it will crash. So far, it hasn't crashed on me.

I made sure to run it from the Windows directory by doing "cd.. [enter]" and all that. The part i have issues with:

cacls %windir%\explorer.exe /E /G User Name:F

(My username is my real name)

It doesnt work. If i do that above with Administrator it works. In webpages it's a %20 to join james user.html so what is it for DOS

(Edit - Thanks djeter - Hey.. Jeter? HEHE :) )

(Edit 2 - I got it now :) thanks everyone. )

I must say this version is not quite as good for window switching as the classic taskbar was.

The missing bits:

  • No aero peek
  • Has the old jump list arrow instead of rightclicking
  • Old startbutton
  • No jump lists in start menu
  • No window titles in the thumbnails

And the fact that thumbnails don't show up as fast as I expected make this one not that suitable. Might be the reason why they disabled this by default.

the thumbnails show up fast for me, mabye you have a slower pc.

In here, they also do show up faster than the old taskbar, but still not fast enough for me to have any use. I think I want them instantly.

(and no I certainly do not have a slower pc)

Also just noticed that window names do show up in the thumbnails, but not when you have grouping disabled. Whoops, didn't notice.

I believe doing some registry tweaking may decrease the show up time like the 'start menu delay'

was pretty simple to enable it. i guess its obvious that it was partially implemented at this point in the build so i guess they kept it disabled?

i notice any application that is running, it shows text along with the icon. is it possible to have just icons for running apps?

Use the "Always Group" in the Button grouping in the Taskbar and Start Menu properties

Right click on the orb then go to properties, select button grouping to "always group". It will remove the text.

Right-click taskbar, set Button grouping to never group.

And you're done.

is it just me or is the wmp superbar preview now working..all i get is the spinning circle when its on the now playing screen..i get the same thing on ie/firefox preview tabs when there is an embeded media object on the page like a flash applet

edit: apparently this resets the media center config also cause i had to rerun the setup

hah, thanks guys. pretty simple.. should have looked bit more before asking

With all these bugs, MS was absolutely right-on not to include this in the build given to attendees. It's the people that go around snooping that find things that aren't ready to be seen.... :D

Those aren't bugs, just incomplete features, and Microsoft doesn't like to give those out.

Like the jump list arrow, they even showed it in PDC (but said it didn't work like they thought and then ditched it in later builds).

I believe we're experiencing bugs because we don't have the feature fully implemented. We only have bits of the UI that someone went through great lenghts to unlock. I would get build 6933 with the fully implemented superbar works much better.

has anyone had any trouble with gadgets in 6801? some gadgets that work perfect in vista fial to work right in seven...i have a radio gadget that i use...in 6801 the gadget is there but its like the images and background of the gadget are transparent or not displaying at all

and how do we know that the superbar is gonna work much better in that build..afterall cream and the game didnt get that much time to play

To open a Jump List just "drag" a taskbar button a little bit up ;)

It works so great! They really have solved all problems with this smart evolution of the taskbar. And at the end it is even more customizable. You can make it look like the Vista taskbar with small icons, no grouping and text labels for pro users or the bigger version with grouping and large icons for your mother

i wish firefox's jump list was more like ie8 though with the bookmarks and all...guess ya cant have the best of both worlds in a pre-beta though

    • RevPDF 4.5.0 by Razvan Serea RevPDF is a free, fully offline PDF editor for Windows, macOS, and Linux that lets you edit text and images directly inside PDF files — no internet connection, no account, and no cloud uploads required. Unlike bloated alternatives that demand subscriptions and constant connectivity, RevPDF fits in under 60MB on desktop while delivering a complete editing toolkit: annotate, redact, sign, compress, split, merge, convert, and reorganize pages, all processed locally on your device. Smart font matching ensures edited text blends seamlessly with the original, and multi-language support includes RTL scripts such as Arabic and Hebrew. Where most PDF editors force you to choose between features and simplicity, RevPDF manages both. You can build interactive forms from scratch with text fields, checkboxes, and dropdowns, permanently redact sensitive data before sharing, draw freehand on contracts and diagrams, and add custom watermarks — all without a single file leaving your machine. Edit Text and Images Directly Inside PDFs RevPDF supports true inline PDF editing — not just annotation layers on top of a document, but actual modification of existing text and images within the file. A smart font-matching engine identifies the font used in the original document and applies it automatically when you make edits, so changes blend naturally with the surrounding content. You can reposition elements, resize images, and update text across single pages or entire documents. RevPDF 4.5.0 release notes: This is one of the biggest updates to RevPDF yet. A lot of things people have been asking for are finally here. New Features Auto Redaction Permanently redact sensitive text and areas from your PDFs before sharing. Clean, irreversible, and fully offline. Comments, Links & Bookmarks Add comments for review, insert clickable links, and create bookmarks to jump around long documents without scrolling forever. Find & Replace Search across the whole document and replace text in one go. Long overdue. Split Pages Vertically or Horizontally Split any page down the middle, vertically or horizontally. Perfect for scanned books or double-page spreads. New Drawing Tools More tools for freehand drawing and markup, better for annotations, sketches, and detailed notes. Continuous Scrolling in Editor The editor now scrolls continuously through pages instead of jumping between them. Working through long documents is a lot smoother now. PDF Metadata Editor View and edit the metadata stored inside your PDFs, including title, author, subject, and keywords. Better Font Matching Text edits now blend in more naturally by doing a better job of matching the original font. Tabbed PDF Viewer Open multiple PDFs at once in tabs and switch between them without going back to the home screen. Add Links Insert hyperlinks anywhere in your PDF, to external URLs or to other pages within the document. Share & Print Shortcuts Share or print directly from the editing screen, home screen, and viewer. No extra steps. Minor Updates Paste images directly from clipboard into your PDF New image editing tools for more control over images inside documents Bug Fixes Fixed file saving issues on Windows and Linux Everything still works fully offline. No login, no cloud, no account. Your files stay on your device. • Interesting. I'm not using a VPN with my phone. I tried though my home internet (Rogers) and my cellular internet (Telus) using their respective DNS servers and both trigger the dialog above.
