you mean grandma and her bifocals :p

i wish firefox's jump list was more like ie8 though with the bookmarks and all...guess ya cant have the best of both worlds in a pre-beta though

Well... That's because the coding for jump lists isn't done in Windows itself. Every program has to be coded to support it. Firefox obviously doesn't have any code yet, as there are no SDK's released yet.

One of the PDC videos has a quite nice coding demo on all the superbar features.

And with everyone calling it superbar I guess Microsoft will have to rename it

I must say this version is not quite as good for window switching as the classic taskbar was.

The missing bits:

  • No aero peek
  • Has the old jump list arrow instead of rightclicking
  • Old startbutton
  • No jump lists in start menu
  • No window titles in the thumbnails

And the fact that thumbnails don't show up as fast as I expected make this one not that suitable. Might be the reason why they disabled this by default.

Are there pics comparing the two start buttons? I saw the PDC video but I couldn't see anything significant

It's just a different glow effect.

The 6801 button just has a blue glow, the new button has something that features some sort of 'sun ray' around the startbutton in the 4 windows flag colors, something like the eclipse ring effect but then 4 times.

6933: post-151800-1225679817.png

(the 6933 image is actually when it's pressed but it looks almost the same at hover)

The 6933 glow effect is less obtrusive and doesn't take away all your focus like the 6801 kinda does for me...

bit offtopic but worth the post...seems like mikey is wanting our input on 7even http://www.windows7taskforce.com

i think i actually like 6801's button better

Any specific reasons?

brighter..more catchy i think..speaking of catchy..anyone think that the sensetivity of the new start button is less than that of vista...seems like it takes a lil more precision to hit the right spot

seems the new superbar is not as bad though.....might just be the padding on the regular bar

Too bad Aero Peek's non functional. Otherwise, I still like this better than the old Vista style taskbar. (Y)

Now excuse me while I go play around with the glow effects like this:

superbar looks a helluva lot better docked on the right or left side than the regular bar does imo...whatda you guys think?

is it me or is the windows logo missing from the windows logo screensaver in this build?

Superbar definitely looks ten times better than the fat-text taskbar on the sides.

The Windows Logo screensaver has both the Windows 7 logo, and the Vista swoosh that should be dropped any time soon :p

edit: Try copying a file. The progress bar animation's there :D

After doing this unlock you'll also uncover a fade transition for the programs list and search results in the Start Menu.

Quick reply :)

Thanks, I see the difference. Yes, I do like the build 6933 glow better. It sort of reminds me of vista's startup animation.

And what's the eclipse ring effect? :pinch:

Can you give me a step by step way of enabling this please?

Edit: ^^Is the bar dynamic (narrower with no text and wider automatically when text is showing)? And how does it look better than the fat-text taskbar? :ermm:

Can you close programs by clicking the X-button in the thumbnail?

Can you advise what file and where please?

Just copy and paste a very large file, like >300 MB or so. Or copy a lot of files, say your entire Documents folder.

Can you close programs by clicking the X-button in the thumbnail?

Yep. You can also middle click on window thumbnails to close. :)

It's not dynamic if text labels are showing. You can freely resize the bars if the superbar's unlocked.

Well... the text-label-less bar looks better than previous taskbar incarnations in Windows. :p

Yep. You can also middle click on window thumbnails to close. :)

Nice! :woot: for the middle click! Just like IE/FF/whatever browser

I like :)

I guess :D

And what bars are those? The app buttons?

(sorry for all these questions :pinch: )

    • When will the Photos app be updated to remember the window size and position when reopened? They addressed this issue in a 2024 version of the app (though I can't recall the build number). Unfortunately, after that specific version, the problem persists! Please prioritise this fix in your K2 schedule. Additionally, the Snipping Tool has lost the ability to capture the Windows Taskbar starting from the 2024 version!
    • Same, never saw it on Android or iOS. Guess only some people got it *shrugs*
