ExtremeG
Recently I started getting this problem, it would happen when trying to watch a film with Quicktime or viewing certain pages on Internet Explorer. Like when in hotmail it would happen when I actually open a message, the computer would slow down then the screen would go black then return after a few seconds and I would have to quit IE to prevent the BSoD eventually appearing after one or two more 'blackouts' Also in Quicktime (I need QT to view movies made on my digital camera and phone) when I would increase the size of the window of the movie it would happen. The only time I had the screen completely blanking out before this began happening on a regular basis was when I would load up a Sega Genesis emulator but I have never ever got BSoD's until now Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/698536-screen-blacking-out-followed-by-a-bsod/ Share on other sites
+allan MVC Posted November 18, 2008 MVC Share Posted November 18, 2008 What is the BSOD error? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/698536-screen-blacking-out-followed-by-a-bsod/#findComment-590145468 Share on other sites
ExtremeG
It just does a dump of physical memory, which takes 1-2 minutes then restarts my comp and when Windows XP loads up I get a pop up saying the system has recovered from a fatal error send report. +allan MVC Posted November 19, 2008 MVC Share Posted November 19, 2008 Go to System Properties - Advanced - Startup & Recovery Settings and uncheck "Automatically Restart". Next time there's a problem you should get a blue screen error instead of a reboot. Post the error here. ExtremeG
Avoided getting the BSOD, but had to put some songs on my ipod so opened up itunes on a reboot and done what I wanted then closed itunes and the desktop refreshed so had to reboot because the BSOD was going to come up (if I use the comp only for web browsing and viewing youtube films it's alright but using programs like itunes, quicktime player etc produces the refreshing then screen blacking out followed by the BSOD) When I shut it down I get a pop up box opening saying "Ending Task : GUI_Mainframe1238272 " or something similar, then it switched off. Maybe that's a clue to the problem. Also while searching about it I came across a post on a AMD forum I think, recently somebody else has a problem like mine, but nobody gave him a solution Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/698536-screen-blacking-out-followed-by-a-bsod/#findComment-590219682 Share on other sites
VPuccetti
ExtremeG, In almost every case of a BSOD you should have a minidump file that is located in \windows\minidump. If you attach any recent files, we can analyze them to see what is causing the BSOD. Owen W Veteran Posted December 4, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 4, 2008 Just wondered if you're running Windows Vista with Dual Screeens? That can cause problems sometimes. VPuccetti
Extreme G, Change the extension of the file and take off the .dmp (i think thats the extension) and then just zip the file. Try and copy the file to your desktop first... Do you have Administrator rights? ExtremeG
I just done Start>Run>Dxdiag And got this: DirectX Files Tab: The file qasf.dll is an old version, which could cause problems. Maybe that's what is causing the problem as there was nothing else in the report. hadouken
According to the mini-dump you uploaded, your crashes are caused by nv4_mini.sys, which is part of the nVidia display driver. Try updating to the latest version and see what happens. You should also update your XP install to service pack 3 as well, staying with SP1 isn't wise.
