[UK] PS3 wireless keypad gets date, price

Recommended Posts

That is one of the nastiest / ugliest peripherals i've ever seen. You can tell it was without a doubt an afterthought after the xbox got one with the way it has to clip over the whole controller just to stay on. not to mention it looks awkward as hell to move between typing/playing quickly.

Doesn't look that difficult

Plus of course it's an afterthought, they all are. No controller is made with a chat pad.

And FTR you can detach the keypad and use it on it's own, it's a bluetooth powered device, so if you can't get comfortable with it on the controller just have it nearby to use separately.

I would probably only get one for this use, rather than have a full sized keyboard lying about I can just have one of those little devices.

I've not got any wireless keyboard so it is useful to me that way.

Plus it's not as bulky as leaving a full size keyboard lying on my couch/around my room.

From the video above, as you can see all you do is slide your hands up a little.

If you're playing a lighting fast FPS game, on any console, you aren't going to use a keypad, you use voice chat. For things like Home/sending messages/LBP, you have more than enough time to slide your hands up to type, then back down to play.

Or people with large hands should be okay from normal position :p

Yeah not right away but you'd think when they were designing the controller they'd whiteboard what peripherals they'd want in the future so when they finally decide they want something someone else has brought out it didn't look as tacky as an air scoop on a ford escort...

I don't see that vid making it look 'easy'... anything sticking out the top of the controller is always going to be awkward to use. Guess it depends on your hands though.

If it's that much of an issue for people, they can just use a wireless keyboard.

Options for different folks.

Putting below a controller still requires you to twist your thumbs downwards. This method keeps your thumbs in their natural position, but requires people with smaller hands to shift their hands up a notch.

A keyboard attached to a controller is never going to be as efficient as a full size keyboard, portability/space efficiency is key.

It has the ability to be detached and used separately, no competition has that feature I don't believe. Or is the MS keypad a powered device as well?

Yeah but how long ago did they design the Playstation controller, its been the same since PS1 as I remember. So I doubt they thought about a chat pad back then, when they had no online.

anyway. nice idea. i wish it was designed FOR PS3 with PS3 button and media player buttons etc. wud had justified price i guess.

Um what?!

It IS designed for the PS3

It has shortcuts to your inbox, write a new message, etc.

Of course it's not got media buttons, that's what the Blu Ray remote is for!
