The Lookout (2007)

Directorial debut for screenwriter Scott Frank, who wrote Get Shorty and Minority Report.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays an Ice Hockey rising star from Kansas who has a car crash that kills two of his friends and leaves himself and his girlfriend disabled.

He has no physical injuries, but brain damage causes him to forget things to the point he needs to constantly write a journal of everyday events. He shares an apartment with a blind man played by Jeff Daniels, and works as a cleaner in a bank during the night.

One night, in a bar, he meets some people who seem friendly and ends up in an affair with a girl played by Isla Fisher.

These people eventually reveal that they are in the business of robbing banks, and are planning a heist at the bank that he works at.

This is a great piece of American Gothic cinema in the tradition of Fargo and A Simple Plan.

I liked this movie. It was pretty neat, and directed beautifully. The story was cool, too. Overall, a good movie, but nothing spectacular. I'd say 3/5-ish.

BTW, Joseph Gordon-Levitt looks incredibly like Heath Ledger. Future Joker perhaps?
