Gmail: now customisable.

I will probably go into details and compare the features which Hotmail has over Gmail when I have more time, but in reply to your post: I don't see how Gmail is better than Windows Live Hotmail...? :s
There are more than 1 you know.

ahhaha. You guys are jokes lol. I just find WLM is better. GMAIL is also good, but not great as everyone things.

Well this was the final drop that made me switch back to GMail from Windows Live Hotmail. Windows Live Hotmail was nice, but the new updates were going for the worse and the screen was just too cluttered with crap.

lol you screwed that one up. I had to hit the GMAIL icon in the far left corner to get it to reload

I changed my Country to Japan and city to Tokyo just to see if it changed the mountain scene and I had to hit the GMAIL logo to get it to refresh it

Well this was the final drop that made me switch back to GMail from Windows Live Hotmail. Windows Live Hotmail was nice, but the new updates were going for the worse and the screen was just too cluttered with crap.

Windows Live Hotmail will be updated again significantly by February 2009, so look out for that ;) It will address important problems with the user interface (including the awfully placed banner ad) and will add many more features such as full Windows Live Messenger integration, POP3 access for free accounts, easy uploading of images, maps, etc from Live Search right from within Hotmail's UI, etc. Too many changes to name. So look out for that :) In the meantime, one of the reasons I am staying with Hotmail is because of the whole Windows Live integration, I really love the whole interface of Windows Live Wave 3 (if they are going to allow for more themes and changing colours) and to have it all integrated into Windows Live Messenger, Calendar, Mail, etc is very good. Also they are starting to integrate Windows Live with other web applications such as Twitter, Digg, etc. I am hoping they will incorporate Facebook quite nicely - hopefully add the Facebook news feed to the What's New feed maybe at some point in the future. The possibilities are endless.

I have just tried out some of the new Gmail themes, such as 'Shiny', 'Grafiti' etc and while better, I still do not like the overal layout of things. I love Hotmail's layout with the reading pane and the way they have the folder list, etc. Gmail is just too different for my liking and not as nicely laid out.

OK, I've decided, after playing around with Gmail (now they don't just have the one ugly user interface which made me want to exit the tab as soon as it loaded everytime I tried it), it is much better than I thought it was and it does have some nice features over Hotmail. Therefore, I no longer hate it.

Also, it does currently have some much better themes than Hotmail. They both lack the ability to just change the colour itself rather than adding a theme with images etc.

I will continue to use Hotmail mainly because of the Windows Live integration and what is coming in the next few months. Also it does have some nicer features over Gmail, just as Gmail has some nicer features over Hotmail.

Changed my display language from English (US) to English (UK), and got the theme tab!

Was undecided about whether I'll keep it, I liked the older style, but now using Shiny and will probably keep it.

Why does it want your location? Doesn't make any difference to the background pictures for me. I've changed locations to all over the country and the pictures stay the same.

    • There was a Spider-Man game back in the day that had these as well. When other people played, they got gamer ads. When I played, I got ads for Visual Studio on the billboards in the city.
