"Tracker" Feature

Recommended Posts

I found something in the control panel that doesn't seem to be discussed in the FAQ, its a section in the sidebar called "tracker."

Under it there are links for tracking "issues" and "projects." What are "issues" and "projects"?

Hey dude, If you have this many questions, try to save them all up, and ask ALL in one thread, or join the IRC. If you don't know how to use IRC, don't worry.

But your killing us all here with these questions.

Actually, I almost did put them all in one thread, but I thought it would be more cumbersome to do it that way because different people would be answering different questions and there wouldn't be any real flow to the conversation. By doing separate threads, people can respond only to the ones they know about and there can be a more consistent flow to the conversation, at least that's my theory. If you're experience tells you otherwise feel free to send me a PM, I'd be interested to hear.

By the way, what is IRC?

Didn't you say you worked on Wikis? How can you know what a Wiki is, but not IRC?

Umm...that's quite possibly a good question, it's possible I do and have just never seen the abbreviation, what does it stand for?

Ok to answer you're question, I am involved on one wiki. And I'm not positive but I'm pretty sure we don't use that, we have what we call "talk pages" they are little different from the wiki pages themselves (anybody can edit them) but they are used for discussion rather than as a medium for the wiki's content. They are also sort of segregated from the wiki itself and i'm not sure that non-members have access to them.

So how do I join it?

Not anything you should be seeing, actually. So far, members won't have access to that function.

I'm also seeing those listed in my controls. I'm just going to assume those are staff functions that we shouldn't have access too :p.

I'm noticing that I don't have access to the invision gallery or download features either, is that the same type of thing, Only staff have access?

I'll just point something out to you dude. Just browsing neowin, or searching google can easily answer all these questions. Most of the answers to your questions, are right in front of your eyes, you just got to open them.

Disabled to all users.

Now I know what you guys meant when you said click at the top, I generally go right to the forum and don't bother looking at the home page which is why I never saw the IRC link before.

Here, I made a little animation for you.

It's right at the top! It's not hard to miss. All of your questions could be answered by either reading the pertinent FAQs, or by just looking around a bit.

To set the record straight, I don't have it at the top of my forum page, and mine doesn't look like that, perhaps it's a function of the skin I'm using. I realize some of my early questions were in the FAQ but I was unaware of it's existence at the time. I now check it before I post any questions. I understand some people are frustrated but I would appreciate it if people didn't assume I'm a complete idiot.

The IRC link is also on the forum.

Not for me.

That would mean your on a old/unsupported skin such as Swift Refresh which i find weird unless you manually changed it since all the users got their default changed to Shift when it got rolled out which does also have the IRC buttons on it.

I don't think we forced any forum skin on any user. The force was on the main page only.

That's exactly what I've been doing, I'm using Swift Refresh. I guess that answers why it didn't show up.

If it's unsupported, why would they keep them in the menu?

But that begs the question of why we see them anyway. Would it be that hard to remove them? Would this be appropriate to post as a bug?

I recently learned via the IPB forum that in IPB 3 each user should only see the options he/she has access to in their control panel.
