Along the the way we did get glimpses of Sony admitting they did need to do a 180 on certain things, and underestimated parts of the project itself. So of course, they probably hit roadblocks and other issues in trying to deliver a service like this. There wasn't really anyone to imitate as such, they are the first company to try and offload something like this on a console.

They had to create a good SDK for other developers, then try and go to convince people to work with them, creating content to be used in Home. Many developers would plain and simply even see just this as a risk, as what happens if they signup and end up wasting their time?!

Then obviously you have the mammoth task of designing/creating/putting a network infastructure in place. The design part/engine probably took a good while - Have you seen any MMO/Online service that looks as good? Or if you watch the Red Bull video, it actually incorporates a true game, the plane flying around within Home itself.

Obviously the engine is fairly scalable and able to support some technical feats over engines currently on the market.

This was all developed by two teams within Sony, in London and Cambridge [uK]. I have no idea of the sizes of these studios, but it's just to iterate it wasn't as if the whole of Sony were focusing on Home. Sony were still running a PSN service which had to be drastically updated, a PS3 which launched missing many features and internal studios having to focus on bringing a good gaming library into place.

So IMO I truly believe such a service requires the amount of time it's had to be made, and where Sony shot themselves in the foot was their OWN predictions completely undershooting the time needed, therefore they put unrealistic release dates in place for us. As opposed to the initial release date of 2007 being completely obtainable, and it was Sony mucking up development - Although I'm sure there were bad development decisions made that did extend development time along the way.

I agree for the most part with this, and I am personally glad to see that your passion for Sony doesn't prevent you from seeing some truths. Sony's problem has always been they are a Hardware company trying to create proper SDK's, when they simply cannot. This story can be stated for the Playstation 2 as well.

I have stood by my claims that a software company will always kill a hardware company. Your machine is always limited by your own ability to create the necessary content it needs. This is Sony's problem. This is why Microsoft is destroying the brand "Playstation." Yes, destroying. Playstation "fanboys" are quickly adopting the Xbox 360, because they are seeing good content every month...and it never stops.

I own 5 games for my PS3. I own 60 for my Xbox 360. I am talking about retail games. Do you know why? Because the service is seamless, it hardly ever breaks, and it just WORKS. The same can't be said for Sony. Face it, they created Home to try and bring some sort of socialistic idea in hopes of attracting the same audience they know they are losing. I think it was a horrible idea to drop this claustrophobic (and yet empty at the exact same time) world onto us. They had to though. They have nothing worthy of a release for the Christmas Holiday except for this beta.

I understand your passion for Sony and I'm sure it's frustrating having to prove to people that the console they own is worth value, however it is NOT your job/duty to tell me the value of the purchase I made. My playstation 3's worth to me is of little value. If I could honestly sell it, I would. The only reason I even own this thing was I was able to sell a PS3 during launch for double the money and essentially got one for free. Having said that, I decided to keep it because I saw extreme potential....

And all this potential is evaporating into thin air. With so few exclusive titles that are worth having, and so many inconsistencies with multi-platform games (PSN speaking) it becomes extremely hard for me to actually want to purchase titles. Home is the perfect example of what Sony has done this entire generation - over-hype and under-deliver. This is the truth, regardless of how you would like to swallow the bitter pill, it is the truth. I get just as annoyed though with certain people who feel that "Joe blow" has no opinion because he doesn't have a website to throw his opinions onto. All of us are entitled to our opinions, as we are paying customers. I can complain as much as I like about services that aren't up to my standards.

Maybe my standards are Microsoft standards....maybe that's how the standard should be though. All I know is, Home is boring and I cannot see how the majority of people will actually want to use this for more than a week of time.

No popis, not 5 or 6.

( You really think you can hide? )

Excuse me? I have no idea who you think I am, but I can assure you I'm not that person. If however you can't get your head far enough out of your backend to understand there are more than this one person wanting to post here, report me.

As for trying 5 or 6 times, yes. I've not once had to try to get in more than that many times. I find it strange you still post on this matter when you clearly hate the application.

I think if you're a seasoned gamer there's a good chance you'll own multiple consoles this generation, but not as a rule, or point of fact. Many people will be happy with one.

If you own consoles you dislike, no one can really help you there. What I say on the forums is mainly reading material for those who may agree with some things, or at least share some common ground with me. It's very pointless for me to get involved in conversations where no common ground is shared, as they tend to just turn into battles.... but I'm human, sadly I do at times, then end up getting in trouble.

If you despise Sony, it's unlikely you'll ever agree with much I say, as I don't despise them - I don't despise either MS/Sony or Nintendo and never would, they've all done so much for me as a gamer I see absolutely no need for blind hate. I wish them all success, and when they do things wrong, I always hope they can recover, not fail even more. I can see faults and mishaps like anyone else, but also potentials. If your view is so one sided you see nothing of potential or ability in the product you own, no one around here is really going to be able to help you and you'll just sound like a broken record complaining all the time. Because as I said we cannot do anything on Neowin, if you're that unhappy you have one clear solution and that is to sell and continue gaming on the console you do like.

Why waste your time interacting with the console you don't use?

I'd never own, or keep hold of a device worth hundreds of pound if I didn't like it. Just my philosophy with everything materialistic in life, if it could earn me money and I don't use it, I'll sell it.

Fact is, there's 3 competitive consoles on the market, plenty of choice for gamers, but that choice is up to you. Your opinion is correct for yourself, but it's not correct for everyone else. It's your money, your decision, and your gaming/leisure time that will be used up - No one elses.

If you want to own and use a Sony product, people in the Sony forum only expect you have somewhat of an interest in it to part with your cash, and want to come in here and discuss things. If you deny all these assumptions, then yeah, we do wonder what your motive is at times, why you're in here, and quite frankly in some peoples cases it's obvious it's just plain and simply to hate and troll. (not saying you).

The hating and trolling is usually done by non-console owners, aka fanboys calling out the opposite side, but at times in here's it's surprising at the amount of people who actually OWN a PS3, that go off on one quite often. You usually see that from people who would rather fry their face in pan, than buy the console they're hating on.

All of us are entitled to our opinions, as we are paying customers. I can complain as much as I like about services that aren't up to my standards.

That is so so true, but there comes a time of reflection where you really need to sit down and say, why I am complaining 95% of the time about this product, and only praising 5% of the time... Should I really keep it?

But anyway I digress, even everything above is opinionated.

You can buy and own what you want at the end of the day, and if keeping something you hate is what you want to do, I'm not going to stop anyone! :)

Excuse me? I have no idea who you think I am, but I can assure you I'm not that person. If however you can't get your head far enough out of your backend to understand there are more than this one person wanting to post here, report me.

Yes, and some people can get into a GoW2 MP game consistently in under a minute, but that doesn't take away from the fact that most people seem to have to wait at least 5 minutes. Same thing here. Just because it doesn't take you long doesn't mean it won't take most others much longer. If you've been paying attention at all, it seems that it's only the minority that's able to connect after only a couple of tries.

I spend money on my PS3, enjoy quite a few of the games, show an interest etc etc and I still get called a fanboy

There's no pleasing people!

Well I certainly wasn't calling you a fanboy.

Many people throw the term fanboy about loosely as an act of aggression, I mean, I get called it as well, but if you read that post that I just posted you'll know I don't hate on consoles at all. I just plain and simply said I'd want to see all three of the current competitors thrive and do well.

I know, but unfortunately you are the only reasonable one at times (although you're not a fan of my jokes) :p

Interesting points buddy....you made me think!

It is not that I hate the console, because I don't. I still have it because I want to someday say to her "Yes...I love you like my other consoles." :p. In the end, it is my money from my hard work that allows me to purchase these things, which is another reason why I am so opinionated.

In fact, the only console I guess I could say I hate is the Wii. I spent way too much money on that system when I had a fiancee, and now that she is gone, the system is a paperweight.

In the end, it is my money from my hard work that allows me to purchase these things, which is another reason why I am so opinionated.

Yeah, so you should be.

It's much more "real" when mum and dad aren't buying you all your consoles left, right and center. I'm not being disrespectful to those who have received consoles as gifts, just saying you're much more aware of how much use you're getting out of something, when it's your cash that's been eaten up.

I paid for all of mine myself, along with my HDTV.

I guess that's what also makes me insanely "uptight" about my money, I will sell what I don't want and only buy what I do want. Although I'm human, I have made some bad decisions along the years :p (and no the Wii isn't one of them, while it's letting me down a fair bit, I'm still happy to have it).

And in return that also makes me much more confused about people online who wildly complain about something they own, like they have no choice but to keep it. My opinion? Most of the hating is for "show", deep down they do want to keep it, or else, really, they'd of sold it :p

That's what I tell myself anyway ;)

I hated the Wii enough to sell it  If I wasn't so eager to see Sony actually make something of the PS3 it would have been gone long ago too. After KillZone 2 and GoW3 release and it's still not impressing me, Judgement Day might not be far behind :p

    • O&O ShutUp10 3.1.1104 by Razvan Serea O&O ShutUp10 offers a simple yet effective way to take control of your Windows privacy. It provides access to almost 50 privacy-related tweaks, most of them hidden or not easily accessible to the average computer users. Using a very simple interface, you decide how Windows 10/11 should respect your privacy by deciding which unwanted functions should be deactivated. Using ShutUp10 you can easily disable Windows Defender, turn off telemetry, disable peer-to-peer updates, turn off Wi-Fi Sense, disable automatic Windows updates, turn off and reset Cortana and more. ShutUp10 allows you to create a System Restore point before you apply any changes, so that you can revert your system at any time if you run into problems. O&O ShutUp10 is entirely free and does not have to be installed – it can be simply run directly and immediately on your PC. And it will not install or download retrospectively unwanted or unnecessary software, like so many other programs do these days! O&O ShutUp10 Free and Premium The latest version brings O&O ShutUp10 Premium, expanding the app’s long-standing privacy controls with automatic enforcement of user-defined settings. Instead of manually rechecking options after every Windows update, users can set their preferred privacy configuration once—or apply recommended settings in a single click—and the tool continuously monitors them in the background. If Windows 10 or 11 re-enables disabled features or introduces new data collection paths, Premium restores the chosen settings automatically without user intervention. The free version remains available and fully functional for manual adjustments, offering the same core privacy controls for Windows. However, the Premium tier is aimed at users who want long-term, hands-off protection, adding automatic reapplication after updates, ongoing monitoring, and optional notifications to ensure privacy settings remain consistent over time. • In the past few days I have noticed two odd moderation activities. First, when I posted the term 'White Nationist Christian' it was asterisk's out. When I changed it to **** it was allowed! Second, in the Politics is a ###business thread I was allowed to post that the GOP is a party of p e d ophiles but I was censored  when I posted the GOP are a party of p e d ophile protectors. Wtf Neowin. Please explain.
