Can i use my MSN account with iChat?

I remember a while back that it was possible to use MSN through Jabber, and then use the Jabber account in iChat. Here's a link on how to go about doing it.

Well I just tried it and I sort of got it to work. Wasn't that hard, it's mostly checking and unchecking boxes. I got my contacts to show up in iChat, but the names looked weird and half of them said awaiting authorization.

Basically the answer is: no.

But maybe in the future it may be possible. I personally wouldn't use a round-about method like jabber because of all the compatibility issues and loss of basic feature support.

I'd just Adium if you don't want the official client. The only major thing Adium has on the official client is offline support... for now.

I'd recommend using Adium, it's a lot easier than tinkering around with Jabber accounts trying to get everything working correctly.

I'd also recommend just using Adium, it's polished and integrates well with OS X.

There's just one reason I'm not using it -- webcam chatting. :( I so wish it supported that. So I'm right now on Mercury Messenger. :| I think it felt at least slightly better than aMSN, but I once noted it was eating RAM like crazy (I'm talking ~400 MB), so it's still a quite unpolished application, unfortunately.

You would think with all these geniuses that make msn clones would be able to create a hacked version of iChat. Of course it wouldnt be legal. But that doesnt stop folk.
