So who's in?

To be fair, I don't think you mean watered down, I think you mean bloated up. ;)

I've been using Arch for 2 years now, and will never switch unless the Arch way drastically changes -- but I'll be glad to help Shift in my spare time if I come across something I'm capable of.

Hi, This is my 1st post here:

I discovered Shift by following a thread in the Arch forums [ Arch Linux Automatic Installer ] and am really looking forward to it.

Personally used linux since Fedora Core 2 and lately I am convinced that new linux users may be better off with a distro other than 'buntu..an Arch based linux with an automatic installer to a desktop along with the clarity of arch-based on-line support, speed, stability, package manager etc which is why I always loved Arch

So I could 2nd the previous post [ rson4451 ] and offer my help & feedback where and when possible

Ok I think changeturkey asked about the desktop any how ..Gnome it is !

rson451 has the right thread in the prev post http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=456499#p456499 aslo on that page is a link for Borderless Linux [a live arch cd a beta2 release ] and posted a comment here http://bbs.borderless-linux.org/viewtopic.php?id=4

for those inserested

thankx CrimsonRedMk for the link for Building Shift .....

I've been doing testing on linux for a while now, I'd love to help out in any way possible, I'll be especially eager to assist in the testing of the new OS.

I also dabble in programming, and I'll be more than happy to assist in any way with that as well.

I'm usually pretty busy, so I probably won't be checking forums much, so if you need to contact me, you can reach me at [email protected] (or PiklesOnFire on AIM)

I'm also available at [email protected] on MSN,

PiklesOnFire on Yahoo

and lastly [email protected]

(I'm pretty consistant haha)

So ok, I haven't looked in here much before. We do need some wallpapers (without the Shift logo, PLEASE :p ), and we need 1 or 2 package maintainers. Package maintainers would just grab Arch PKGBUILDS as soon as they come out and repo-add them to the repo. We're in the process of gathering a list of the AUR packages we'd like to include in Shift, but there might be around 10-20 I know of right now. Please PM me if you're willing to do either, or if you want something to do that I haven't mentioned. We could use an OpenOffice splash screen too. ;)

    • I can name 10x that on why not to switch.... It's funny outlook/office are going towards web app wrappers, and then MS is now preaching native apps again.... ugh can we just pick a lane and stay in it
    • Absolutely NOBODY has suggested such a conclusion. I am affirming the sober reality check that AV2's overall market adoption will take longer than AV1's adoption rate -- which, by the way, is the whole point of the article! While PCI-SIG is productive (on paper), other WGs have created all sorts of confusing progress plans that consumers have tuned-out of their improvements... HTML/W3C, USB, HDMI, BT, WIFI (ieee802.11) as a few other groups where spec naming conventions, split progress paths, overlapping ambitions... I'm not critiquing the AV specs group; I'm simply affirming that adoption for AV2 faces headwinds beyond the macroeconomics of it all.
