There is a new Mac ad "The Greenest Family of Notebooks" and there is no mention of Vista, and better yet no "I'm a Mac, I'm a pc."

They didn't really talk about features, but about not using harmful materials. I stopped and listened to the ad, first time since the "I'm a Mac" ads and thought it was pretty good. A reason to buy a Mac, wow I am still stunned they actually put information about their product in an AD?!? Now, there is a novel idea! Hopefully they are starting a trend and will continue to put actual information in their ads.

P.S. Here's the link - The Greenest Family of Notebooks

Yes, but the only ads I've ever seen on TV are the "Mac v. PC" and the new green one. The only time machine ad I've ever seen is the one with 5 or 6 macs standing there with the pc guy. I understand they make other types of ads, they just don't air them as much as the Mac v. PC ones.

I am so tired of the Mac v PC ads I turn the channel every time I see one starting. :)

Adverts can go either way.

Both styles have proven to be very effective. In fact, we've got more evidence for the strength of the "I'm a Mac" ads.

Please provide this evidence you allude to.

I think that companies should change up their advertising strategies more often than they do. These themed ads get way overdone. I put the "I'm a Mac" ads in the same annoying category as the "Yo quiero Taco Bell" chihuahua ads or the Fanta ads. Annoying, overdone, and went on for too many years.

When I opened the link I was afraid to fall on another Mac v PC that would make me, a new Mac user, to shame again...

Seriously, congrats apple, it's the first ad that you speak about you and not just trying to bitch relentlessly Vista...

Look at Apple's growth since the ads have been running.

Though that isn't to say that other types of ads wouldn't have been as successful, if not more.

You can't just directly compare growth to life of ads. You're ignoring too many variables.

That said, I personally despise companies that have to resort to the "our product is better than yours" type of ads (eg: Pepsi, Hyundai). Apple should just make new ads. The Vista bashing is getting old.

Which isn't to say the ad isn't one of those factors.

The absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. You might not be able to prove it (easily) but you can't disprove it (easily), either.

My statement is just as valid as any other.

How so?

Apple targets the premium end of the market, anyway. Not the $400-Dell end of it.

Is that why they have the Mac mini?

The ad also forgets to mention that the keyboard and hinge are still using plastic, as is the bezel. (It's just covered by a layer of glass.)

Apple has seen lower margins from the Mini, which never gained the sales traction of its more fully equipped iMacs and MacBooks. Apple conceived the Mac mini under pressure from shareholders who wanted a sub-$800 Mac, but never really saw much in the design itself. The Mini stands in direct contrast to Apple's fundamentals from the get-go.

So no. Apple does not compete in the lower end of the PC market.

As for the ad, it mentions that the new Macbooks are made "without many" of the harmful toxins found in other notebooks, not "all" of the harmful toxins. A fair statement. Why should the ad even mention the presence of plastic when that is what they're trying to use less of?? I know I wouldn't mention it. Further, the claim that it's "the greenest family of notebooks" is a reasonable one (provided it is indeed the greenest), since it assumes this relative to other notebooks. "Greenest" doesn't mean completely green. Just the best that can be done so far.

Isn't that my point? There have been so many changes to Apple in the last few years, you might as well say chiclet keys on the Macbook led to a growth in market share and it would still be a valid observation.

Bright side is they finally might be moving away from the "Im a Mac" ads. But, this ad was just plain boring. If I didn't have to write my opinion here, I would have switched to a different channel/video only 5secs after it started.

Apple has been proven to come up with some of the most creative and original advertising campaigns (ex. dancing ipods, streetside window iMac), so just another reason why it pales in comparison.

    • VidCoder 12.20 by Razvan Serea VidCoder is a DVD/Blu-ray ripping and video transcoding application for Windows. It uses HandBrake as its encoding engine. Calling directly into the HandBrake library gives it a more rich UI than the official HandBrake Windows GUI. VidCoder can rip DVDs but does not defeat the CSS encryption found in most commercial DVDs. You’ll need the NET 8 Desktop Runtime. If you don’t have it, VidCoder will prompt you to download and install it. The Portable version is self-contained and does not require any .NET Runtime to be installed. You do not need to install HandBrake for VidCoder to work. Feature list: Multi-threaded MP4, MKV containers Completely integrated encoding pipeline: everything is in one process and no huge intermediate temporary files H.264, H.265, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, VP8, Theora video Hardware-accelerated encoding with AMD VCE, Nvidia NVENC and Intel QuickSync AAC, MP3, Vorbis, AC3, FLAC audio encoding and AAC/AC3/MP3/DTS/DTS-HD passthrough Target bitrate, size or quality for video 2-pass encoding Decomb, detelecine, deinterlace, rotate, reflect, chroma smooth, colorspace filters Powerful batch encoding with simultaneous encodes Customizable Pickers to automatically pick audio and subtitle tracks, destination, titles and more Instant source previews Creates small encoded preview clips Pause, resume encoding VidCoder 12.20 changes: Updated HandBrake core to 1.11.2. • Too soon, I'm still not over this death!
    • Normally, I admit when a title is clickbait (unfortunately, it's become somewhat necessary to compete against AI-dominated news sections today), but in this case, all supported versions is implied and doesn't need to be spelled out in the title. Of course, I'm covering a Patch Tuesday update bug that is only available to supported Windows SKUs. All our coverage relates to supported Windows software and SKUs only unless we expressly state that it's "unsupported", "unofficial", or "third-party". I'm sorry, but supported/official SKUs don't need to be spelled out as such in every Neowin headline.
    • ALL versions or ALL SUPPORTED versions? Neowin does it again.
