Umm, are FMA (original series) and FMA : Brotherhood related ? Can I just watch the new series or should I watch the original to understand what's going on ?

Thanks :)

You can watch Brotherhood without watching the old series. The first half of the original series and up to about episode 15 of Brotherhood are the same material, so watching both would be redundant.

Also the Brotherhood series follows the manga a lot more closely. While the original series does to a certain point and then it creates it's own story.

so i finished watching NGE and i have no effin clue what is going on past episode 24.

in episode 24.... shinji kills the guy, who apparently is an 'angel', then shinji crys about it a bunch, then i have no *(#@&$@$_@($ing clue what is going on after that.

something about how he imagined it all...or it was just a different world that he was picturing himself in or some BS...

im sitting here going "o good, shinji finally did something, two more episodes for the to explain what the **** has been going on"

THEN an hour of shinji being a giant tool and having more flash backs and garbage, and nothing gets explained.

whats so great about NGE?!?!

You are doing it wrong ....

First of all, you are not supposed to watch the two final episodes. They are not relevant to the story, I think the producers ran out of money to make a true conclusion - I forgot.

If you haven't watched the director's cut of NGE, then I recommend watching Evangelion: Death and Rebirth (the death part only, as Rebirth is just an intro to EOE) - it explains more. Otherwise, watch EOE,

Next up, you need to watch the two real last episodes: Ep. 25: "Air" and Ep. 26: "My Purest Heart for You". The two last episodes conclude the series respectfully. They are available as the movie, End of Evangelion. Which is indeed a mind-trip - but completely coherent with the story of the first 24 episodes ... Happy Third Impact! :D

OR,

You can just watch the new Rebuild of Evangalion (which is much better and explains things much better) but it is in works for now.

I'll give you the same reply i gave someone earlier in this thread on the subject of Evangelion:

Evangelion is as much a mech anime as Moby-Dick is a book about fishing. It had mechas in it, yes, but it was certainly not a series about them. Just look at the last 2 episodes if you have any doubt.

Just looking at it as a mech alone, it's absolutely awful. 17 battles in the entire series, most without any real action. Most of the sci-fi mysteries and questions were left unanswered in favor of a finale that revolved exclusively around the psychological state of the main characters. As a result, the plot is left unfinished in regard to the mech/sci-fi side of Evangelion.

That?s not to say that it?s a bad story (psych student?s probably go wild over it). Personally, it left a bad taste in my mouth.

Am I like the only one who seen the movie around here? :o

End of Evangelion? I saw it. It wasn't the intended end by the director (Anno). It's pretty well accepted that it was created as response to the negative impact of the last episodes. As one of the English voice actor's stated, he gave the fans what they wanted but in the worst way possible (most of the main characters are killed in the worst way possible).

The original ending seems like the slap in the face to me and not the End of Evangelion. I mean the original ending explains nothing and serves no purpose in the continuation of the story line, while EOE seems like a conclusion to me. And it is a very well done conclusion at that - the scene of the materialization of Lilith is one of the most elegant scenes I have seen in a movie.

I mean the ending of the official series seems the same as the ending of Gantz anime or Claymore Anime - incomplete - unworthy of an ending - disappointing.

I also love how western religious elements were integrated in the movie - for example Lilith is the first wife of Adam.

That?s what I?m saying in my quote though. The series isn?t about aliens or mechs, it?s about the psychological state of the main characters, and the original ending satisfies that. If you don?t like the last two episodes, you really didn?t like the anime.

Episode 25' "Air" is based on the original episode 25 script which was completed during production of the TV series. Due to production time limits and other problems, this script was not used and the TV episode 25 "Owaru sekai (The Ending World)" instead became a drama which unfolded within an inner universe like episode 26. In this sense, episode 25' could be considered a return to the originally intended contents. In contrast, episode 26' adds much more story and dramatic content to TV episode 26, thus deepening the theme.

I just finished NGE, as Berserk87 said after 24 every episode is like WTF. In one of the episode I seriously thought that misato & shinji are going to do it (Sorry I know I have dirty mind  ).

Something involving tentacles is the norm.

/s

If you want a surprise conclusion, an anime series should end without fan service or some sort of lame, extreme twist ala Code Geass.

By the way, I'll again point out that people who have finished NGE and did not like it should run off to RahXephon and watch it nao!

I watched RahXephon quite a while ago. I think it's about time to give it a rewatch.

What do you mean with "lacks that Gundam 00"? Do you mean the mobile suit or storyline-wise? :p

oops... I intended to say it lack the appeal of Gundam 00  and i mean the storyline.I feel 00 was much more captivating from the beginning itself. Then again now that I've watched 15 episodes its becoming more interesting

I have seen RahXephon on SciFi or G4 - one of those two - but I never liked it. I think it gave a more of a generic mecha impression or something... :|

So I should Try to find the redone episode 25 and 26? Of NGE.

You mean to say "rent the movie," right?

That depends whether you want two episodes of philosophy || or || two episodes of action, violence, end of the world, philosophy, disturbing scenery, and significant plot progression?

@rustix: It has to do with the type of story they're trying to create. If you look at Gundam SEED and Mobile Suit Gundam, you'll see a resemblance. Same counts for Gundam 00 and Gundam Wing. Mobile Suit Gundam is about a kid who goes inside a Gundam to protect his friends and family, Kira did the same. Gundam Wing starts with unknown mobile suits scattered on earth trying to prevent a war, same happened in Gundam 00. Both Gundam Wing and Gundam 00 are more politically aimed as well, if you understand what I mean. Both series where very serious about the story from the beginning. Mobile Suit Gundam and Gundam SEED both are building up the story where the viewer slowly gets into it.

@The ones who are talking about NGE: The 4th rebuild movie will be a complete new story for the series. Meaning that the rebuild series will have a different ending :)

Oh ok. I think I see what you mean. I guess I should check out Mobile Suit Gundam and Gundam Wing as well

By the way dude, where do you get your sig and avatar from?

    • I totally agree no one should trust governments AND big tech companies that have near monopolies in certain market segments. The difference is of course citizens at least have some say in government. Yes, requiring Apple to open up Sirsi to other AI backends is in the interest of EU customers and certainly "opens" up the platform a crack. What are you saying? I wish the US would regulate tech companies more here and even break them up in some cases. Granted trusting the government to do it right is a crap shot at best but what is the alternative? To allow a few tech companies to continue to run everything and just print money? It's crazy to me for example that in most of the world 99% of communications go thru Facebook servers via WhatsApp. What kind of dystopian world are we living in?
    • You can.. make sure you have ADB tools on whatever OS you are running, plug your phone into your PC give it approval to talk to the phone then run this command. adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.chrome So long as you leave Android Webview untouched it wont break anything on your Phone to do this. I have been using exclusively Firefox mobile since it was released.
    • If it ain't broke, don't fix it. One Commander Free also available in the Store has been my goto Files Manager for years. It does what I need at a more than reasonable speed. I do occasionally use Files Explorer just because it is there and does what I need without any problems when I use it.
    • I think you missed his point. He wasn't saying that cloud storage isn't possible on GNU/Linux, clearly it is. He was pointing out that you are commenting about your dislike of Windows on an article about OneDrive (not Windows) for Mac (also not Windows). Its about as off topic as coming to an article about Sony improving something on the PlayStation and saying that you hate Sony TVs and prefer LG.
    • Nvidia's GeForce NOW summer sale drops prices for Ultimate and Premium memberships by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Nvidia has a fresh update for GeForce NOW subscribers today, bringing in more games to add to its ever-growing supported titles list. At the same time, the company announced the kick-off for its summer sale for the streaming subscription service, dropping the prices for both its premium packages for anyone looking to upgrade or join. The offer is for the 12-month membership options that the company offers. This drops the 12-month Performance membership from $99.99 to $64.99, saving members $35. Next, the 12-month Ultimate membership is currently going for $129.99, dropping prices by $70 from the original $199.99. "The Performance membership delivers smooth, high-quality cloud gaming across devices, with streaming up to 1080p at 60 frames per second (fps) and access to RTX-powered servers for supported games," says Nvidia, describing its tiers. "The Ultimate membership steps things up with RTX 4080‑ or 5080‑class performance in the cloud, supporting up to 4K and beyond on ultrawide displays, up to 120 fps, and advanced features like ray tracing, NVIDIA DLSS and NVIDIA Reflex for a more responsive, visually rich experience." With the sales out of the way, here are the games joining GeForce NOW's supported list this week: NBA THE RUN (New release on Steam, available on June 9) Witchspire (New release on Steam, available on June 10) SpaceCraft (New release on Steam, available on June 11) Duet Night Abyss (Launcher) DOOM Eternal (Epic Games Store) The Elder Scrolls Online (Xbox, available on Game Pass) Farever (Steam) World of Tanks: HEAT (Wargaming) Nvidia plans to add support for a bunch of more games during the rest of June. Find the full announcement from last week over here. Keep in mind that, unlike subscription services like Game Pass or EA Play, a copy of a game must be owned by the GeForce NOW member (or at least have a license via PC Game Pass) to start playing via Nvidia's cloud servers. There is also a limit to how many hours subscribers can use the service per month.
