[Official] Anime/Manga Thread

The movie is the anime series fast forwarded with a completely ridiculous, out of place sex scene and some weird twists. Its quality is sacrificed in order to become the standard length of a movie. However, it does clean up a lot of loose ends and fleshes out the romance between Ayato and Haruka (I <3 Haruka).

I did not like the movie ending. Anime series ending ftw! If you prefer endings like the ones in Saikano, then the movie ending is right up your alley.

I haven't seen Saikano yet, It's on my "plan to watch" list though. The only reason why I want to see the movie is because of the added scenes and "fixes" to the story. The alternative ending might be interesting, but I'm sure it doesn't beat the original ending.

The romance is heartbreaking. I even feel jealous. The movie introduces some additions. However, it does also subtract from the anime series and give an alternate ending. It's really bittersweet since I'm actually irritated at the ending while battling jealousy. Chikusho!

Saikano takes tragedy to another level. It's just sad. Think of episode 19 from RahXephon that I posted on the previous page and repeat it every few episodes over the whole anime series. The last episodes really pull at your heart strings.

I'm reading Dragon Ball and the first two volumes are quite funny. It's the old type of humor with simple jokes and anthropomorphism. It seems like it's going to be a very fun read unlike the painful anime series that have guys 'gasming over several episodes... >_>

^ Did you really like Eden of the East?

I felt like I was watching something similar to Twilight in anime form.

I thought that you would actually like the anime as well to be honest :p Have you seen all the episodes?

I'm thinking about watching the RahXephon movie this weekend :)

I enjoyed it, Kenji Kamiyama did really well to make an original story (Y)

Radish?

RahXephon (the movie) is going to leave you satisfied in some ways but not completely, which isn't necessarily a good thing.

I also thought that I would like Eden of the East. Unfortunately, my jaw just dropped at the stupidity of the opening scene. I then realized the awful ride I had the chance to take. From the air headed female character to the male protagonist, who seems to have been created just to create some relationship with the girl like you would see in a Josei manga. Then, you need to mix in the terrorist plot with a guy who has amnesia... I couldn't take how "fluffy" the whole anime series felt. It felt like it was never taking itself seriously and was too scared to consider to become one of the best anime series of 2000's since it has a refreshing plot.

However, I found the mysterious syndicate and huge cash balance account withdrawals through cellphones quite interesting and different from any other anime series. It's really unfortunate that it just felt flat on its face due to its half hearted efforts.

Hi,

- Is there any Windows manga reader app out there ? Something with favourites, auto-update when a chapter is out, etc ...

PS : well, actually there is an app called "Manga Reader" but it's poorly designed and has no favourites. It can automatically check for updates on OneManga though, which is good. Looking for something better :)

Do you want to know how retarded Dragon Ball Z is? It gets to the point where the mangaka is almost crossing into the yaoi genre... X_X

On top of that, the mangaka seems to love to draw characters that wear headsets that are similar to bluetooth headsets that make people look like #$@#$$@$@$@.

I use Manga Meeya and CDisplay EX. For the latest chapters, I head to Mangatraders.com. It looks like you'll be stuck using Manga Reader if you place automatic updates as a high priority.

I just finished Dragon Ball. I don't know where to start if I am to attempt at describing the mess. I actually enjoyed reading the original series (anything before Dragon Ball Z) since it took everything that made the Shounen genre great. From good fights to overcoming interesting obstacles to the funny yet simple characters, it's a decent read. It's nothing spectacular but not average.

The compliments stop there.

Once you go past the "Goku" arc, the manga series can then be summed up by the follow terms:

- Heaven/Hell, purgatory, God, good, evil, resurrection, rebirth, sacrifice.

- Energy, chi, ki.

- The two main female protagonists... One is assigned kitchen duty and the other becomes another average background character. (There's also some "comedic" domestic violence...)

- Egomaniacs who have not seemed to have matured when it comes to learning how to communicate and act like children.

- Over 9000?! No, over 10,000 then 20,000 then 100,000 then 500,000... Then the power meter just broke and no one seems to care anymore.

- Dragon balls, more balls, big balls, small balls... You need to have them touch so a giant explosion that results in a huge, angry dragon to come... and grant wishes.

Kids fight then become adults fighting while having kids, who also fight then become adults who fight the following:

- Themselves,

- Lizards, Giant Lizards... Giant Lizards that can regenerate.

- Aliens, aliens with bluetooth headsets and aliens with headsets and armor.

The manga goes from childish humor to a dull, painful read that recycles arcs and enemies with more lizards and aliens. Did I mention aliens? Yes, there are plenty of them.

I have no idea how this manga series became popular enough to become one of the best selling franchises, span over 42 volumes of manga (yes, I read them all) and hundred's of episodes of anime.

I can't give a numeric score since it's silly to assign a simple number to anime/manga that takes immense effort to create and it doesn't do any justice to do so. If you do like numeric scores, then visit my MyAnimeList page or fellow Neowin members'.

TL;DR: Dragon Ball is the epitome of what too much action in a Shounen manga series can become when the mangaka cannot imagine any more interesting characters and simply repeats a formula that has run on for too long. The formula doesn't produce consistent quality. The manga goes from decent to disasterous with horrifically unimaginative characters.

Nearly every shounen has a Fabulous character.

also my favourite part of Kodomo No Jikan

I'm definitely going to pick up the manga since it seems to be a highly rated comedy manga series.

The latest Bleach/One Piece and Naruto are out.

THe Bleech story is as slow as ever. We did not get anywhere in this issue either but Naruto and One Piece made a steady progress. Raikage and Killer-Bee vs Kisame and Luffy vs the 3 Admirals ;D

Ah ok, that explains it. Had me excited for a second but I looked it up on wikipedia and saw the general story. Other than the competing tribes it wasn't what I thought you meant. I almost got too excited.

Actually, do you remember when you had to fight the Rachni in the Hot Labs? If you really loved that part and want to see some very interesting, mature character development, then you NEED to check out Blue Gender. Even Thresher Maws are featured in Blue Gender (even though they go by a different name altogether). To top it all off, the humans are based on a station in the orbit of Earth that's very similar to the Citadel but is called "Second Earth". Be warned there are copious amounts of realistic violence with gruesome details but it complements the story very well. In fact, Shepherd from Mass Effect can be considered to be the same as Yuji if you chose the "only one to survive a horrendous battle" path at the start of the game.

I can't believe I never thought of it before. As I said though, it deserves its mature rating since it really does go deep into psychological problems that soldiers would theoretically would go through and plenty of violence and death of characters that you grew attached to and sexual content (that further develops the story).

    • A Warhammer 40K racing game and a chess roguelike are free to claim on the Epic Games Store by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The Epic Games Store has returned to its standard giveaway procedures after weeks of mystery freebies. The latest drop is replacing last week's Rogue Waters and Songs of Conquest games and has brought in a double giveaway offering Warhammer 40K Speed Freeks and The Ouroboros King. As always, the game is yours to add permanently to your Epic Games Store library within the next seven days. From the duo, Warhammer 40K Speed Freeks lands from developer Caged Element, and it's a racing game that was only released last year. The title has you piloting Ork buggies, tanks, and aircraft modeled after the popular tabletop miniatures. The focus is on multiplayer mayhem, offering multiple game modes that have you fighting other players as everyone tries to survive and get across finish lines or destroy mechs. Crossplay support between PC and consoles has now arrived as part of a free update, too, giving a boost to matchmaking times for this multiplayer-focused title. If racing carnage isn't your thing, then The Ouroboros King offers tactics. The indie title is a mashup of chess and standard roguelike experience, letting players create their own armies to defeat an enemy faction, all on the familiar checkered board. There is a procedurally generated map, pieces with special abilities, relics that bend the game's rules to make overpowered builds, and more. The newly available Warhammer 40K Speed Freeks and The Ouroboros King giveaways on the Epic Games Store are set to run until June 11, giving PC gamers seven days to claim the latest offer. Once this closes out, a new freebie will take its place on the same day. Don't forget that mobile gamers can check out the Epic Game Store's weekly giveaways on Android and iOS to grab a freebie there as well.

    • The most consequential argument in technology right now is not about which model is smartest or which chip is fastest. It is about whether the entire enterprise is a generational revolution or the largest financial bubble ever inflated — and the unsettling answer, increasingly, is that it may be both at once.,,,, https://www.techtimes.com/articles/318138/20260610/ai-revolution-ai-bubble-trillion-dollar-question-splitting-wall-street-silicon-valley.htm This is a very good read.  For what it is worth, I agree with the answer to the question. • Stopped using Windows as my main workflow. Migrated completed to Linux. Been happier than a clam without a single issue nor windows annoyance. Leaving Windows has shown me the light at the end of the tunnel, or rather I went through the tunnel and I'm already at the light.
