It has a lot to it. They could literally make a hundred different spin offs of this anime, each with a great story line. There are many characters, everyone has a different favorite, and you actually get to learn a lot about them and their society. Just like most anime, there is that wishy washy friend power crap, but all in all, the fights normally don't let down, there are great twist, and it has a little something for everyone.

Don't let the length scare you. Watch from 1 to where the bountos show up, skip the bountos, and start from where they end and it will be something you will have trouble keeping away from. The manga is just getting better and the anime does not drift. And right now, what is filler, in not normal filler. The filler we have had lately is more of mini movie quality and with very very interesting story lines.

well death note is NO U the anim? also as detectives go L is a bit of a lame duck.

However, L is the sole reason Light starts to realize and maximize his true potential as the "smartest student in Japan". I would argue that his girlfriend and other supporting character were lame ducks.

Bleach is a great watch. Trust me ;).

Considering how much I enjoyed series such as Yu Yu Hakusho and History's Strongest Discipline, I'll consider watching Bleach. I will be quite upset if it turns out to be something akin to Dragon Ball with fights stretching several episodes and a lot of "Can he beat him!?" moments.

There are hints of dbz elements in it, but there is also some more to it, and they keep the powering up a huge sort of open secrete that really keeps you going as well. As for fights stretching.... that you might run into, but its not just 1 fight, it will be 8 fights all at the same time , back to back to back, so you wont be short on action. But there isn't really any 6 episodes of fighting the same person, each new episode with them powering up to a new lvl lol, But.. you will run into some fights hitting 3 to 4 episodes, only because there are other fights going on, and they jump between them all.

well he can't be all that smart he got the wrong book after all...

also if you want to avoid watching bleach just watch YuYuHakusho and mix it with Inuyasha.

well he can't be all that smart he got the wrong book after all...

It's too bad that he couldn't use his intelligence and realize how to save himself from a mental breakdown rather than being another stuck up individual drunk with power in the last third of the series.

On another note, I <3 1080p release of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. :wub:

^ End game. Fate Stay Night is recommended to anyone who liked Shakugan no Shana, Claymore and Busou Renkin. I preferred the more mature, subtle Tsukihime over FS/N.

@Berserk

I am ashamed to say that I forgot about few of the best {samurai} anime series ever made. If you loved Berserk, then you need to check out Ninja Scroll (the movie), Vampire D: Bloodlust, Basilisk and Rurouni Kenshin's OVA's. Be prepared to back them up with some happy anime series because they're all tragic/awesome.

To anyone who thinks I'm negative about anime, all my recommendations to Berserk were rated 8 or higher out of 10.

^ I presume that those reactions are for the visual novel the anime series was based on. I never played any of the visual novels by TYPE-MOON.

@Capric0rn

You must check out the Ninja Scroll movie too. It's a vintage version of Sword of the Stranger but much better (with tragedy and more mature characters).

Ahh I totally enjoyed History's Strongest Discipline Kenichi. About Bleach, you will be disappointed to find that many fights do expland into about 2-3 episodes due to dialogue.

Random note:

The only anime series that made me shed manly tears is Rurouni Kenshin's last OVA. After watching the anime series, then reading the manga followed by the first OVA then the last set, I could not manage to hold back my pride to see probably one of the best characters ever to grace the anime genre.

That's what I expected. It looks like I'll simply follow the manga then. If you're interested in filling in the downtime between Bleach episodes, you should check out Rurouni Kenshin (all the anime and OVAs). It's going to make you laugh, drop your jaw at how epic and amazing it can be and make you shed manly tears in the end.

That reminds me, I've been meaning to watch Rurouni Kenshin. I should watch once I'm done with Gintama.

Watch it in the order I mentioned or they won't sit right. Gintama started out slow but it gained speed after introducing all its characters and established its running gags. I have yet to watch the third season and beyond.

im watching "To Aru Majutsu no Index" right now, its pretty good, im not super into it yet, but it seems to be picking up speed.

I'm thinking about starting with the series before watching the movie. I've already gotten the series a while back so :p Also, aren't you forgetting about "Shigurui" when you named a few good good samurai themed anime? :p

Thanks for the tip. The running gags are fun :p

I didn't like Shigurui. I felt like there was a lot of artistic quality but no substance to back it up. However, I do agree that it's probably one of the best samurai anime series to come out in recent years. I prefer reading the manga since I can read it as quickly as I want it and control the pace of major events. Unfortunately, the samurai sub genre isn't that popular now in anime so most of the masterpieces are still in manga form such as Vagabond.

If you feel that you want more samurai action, then you HAVE to read Lone Wolf and Cub. It is probably one of the best written, most epic manga ever to be written. It's a pity that the mangaka's other works shows his weird morality regarding samurai honor and judgment of people who have committed crimes. e.g. capital punishment + bushido

Many people dislike the Ninja Scroll series but I enjoyed it. It was just a samurai action series with not much substance. However, the film takes it to a whole new level and makes it feel so refereshing to have a proper anime film with no children or genius teenagers trying to take over the world and be labeled "mature" because of unnecessary violence.
