[Official] Anime/Manga Thread

i had watched anime for more than ten years by the time elfen lied came out and i watched it. I started watching anime in the early 90's around 94 or so. if you think that is a gorefest watch Gantz.

if you think that is a gorefest watch Gantz.

I didn't think Gantz was that bad at all. I though its violent was more relevant since it didn't have little girls go around killing special force soldiers right and left because of their emotional problem/imbalance.

Ane-Doki cancelled...now this sucks.

It might be because of its fantastic story.

Ah, the dream of 13! Kouta is our normal everyday boy, living with his fun-loving workaholic father. Lusting after the school idol in his class, playing games with his friend, there's nothing especially noticeable about him. But one day his father has to transfer to Sapporo for a time and mysteriously appear a girl who volunteers to be Kouta's live in caretaker. And what a girl!

Everything about her is mysterious: her mysterious incredibly showy body, her mysterious interest in our boy, her mysterious need to sleep in the same room...

Doki, doki...

perhaps shojo manga isn't for you?

Kare Kano is one of my favorite manga/anime series. xxxholic isn't classified as Shoujo, neither is Tsubasa Chronicle. It is sad to see that Shounen simply means average guys, who attain an x power with several power ups, fight "evil" and are cheered on by "cute girls" who are as dumb as rocks while Shoujo means guys who are drawn as girls and "understand" every "problem" the unremarkable female protagonist a la Twilight.

The manga was funny, not a piece of crap like Naruto.

 There are too many manga and anime that follow the same story, such as Video Girl Ai and Dear.S.

I just watched Kara no Kyoukai 4 & 5. I have no idea how this series garners a 8-9/10 rating for seven of its movies. This series is a compilation of signature TYPE-MOON characters with a dash of rape, supernatural events and angst with plenty of attempts at symbolism and self importance with choir music that does not match the fantastic animation at all. The Kara no Kyoukai series is what happens when Elfen Lied meets Sola and Tsukihime (a TM anime series I enjoyed thoroughly). There is absolutely no intelligence required to to enjoy this movie's plot complemented by predictable twists. 5/10

I would need to re-watch all seven movies to criticize that one. It seems flawless the first time I seen it. Although, it is hard to understand at times because it assumes sometimes that the connection between a and b can be derived by whoever is watching. The music used is excellent also. The first and the six one had really awesome music that helped tell the story, set the mood. #6 was a side story, but what really helped it was the great music. I also like the imagination of the creator which is evident in all the movies, it seems unique and I like all the dark magic and whatnot. Another major positive over other anime, is the lack of the comic / cuteness relief or actually the need for it. Such as say in Elfen Lied which has two modes - cute and innocent and holy **** violent. This one doesn't have comedy, cuteness. It doesn't pride itself on shock scenes as it keeps the same and doesn't swing the mood up and down as much... it is quite easy to watch - relaxed I would say. The animation is also excellent, some fight scenes are simply gorgeous.

For me this is God Tier.

9/10

I just watched Patlabor 2. HOLY $@!#! It'sthe best movie I've seen since Ghost in the Shell: Innocence. Every Ghost in the Shell, mecha, military, sci-fi, thriller fan NEEDS to watch this intellectual masterpiece. I haven't enjoyed a movie this much, both Hollywood and anime, since Ghost in the Shell. This movie shows how brilliant, talented and visionary Production I.G. was before it released Ghost in the Shell in 1995. Gits and Patlabor were directed by the same person, Mamoru Oshii. It's an absolute shame that this masterpiece has been forgotten even though it was released 17 years ago. It can single handedly beat 99% of all animated movies out there with no contest.

Creepy loli.

Is there any connection to Patlabor 1?

There are slight connections. I suggest watching them in chronological order to fully appreciate the characters' backgrounds.

@Masked Forever: There's also a 3rd movie which is direct by both Takuji Endo and Fumihiko Takayama.

I'll be watching it tonight. :D HD resolution ftw!

Does anyone like the new MAL layout?

I wonder how much rage Chu-Bra!! would inflict upon you

Radish™

O_O I just checked it out. It probably is one of the most vapid things I've seen. I wouldn't be bothered by loli but the sheer audacity of the producers to not give the loli characters some brains for the sole reason to appeal to fanboys is creepy and disturbing. Chu... Bra... The sheer marketing genius to advertise this {insert predictable negative adjective} show to its target demographic (lolicon) revolts me. The voice acting makes my ears bleed. THIS IS NOT WHY I WATCH ANIME! >_<

    • Mate, you’re looking to spend about $100 - what are you expecting. The A series is not the high end model, no - but “trash” is nonsense. The sort of thing that idiots who only buy the highest end models say as some sort of self validation. They will do everything you need of them.
    • Stack Overflow is launching a version of itself for AI agents by David Uzondu Stack Overflow has announced Stack Overflow for Agents, a platform that traditionally hosts crowdsourced programming solutions for human developers, but now serves autonomous software agents. Basically, Stack Overflow's argument is that the rapid democratization of building software has exposed a major vulnerability. Agents operate in isolation, creating an Ephemeral Intelligence Gap where they waste valuable tokens on something another agent halfway across the world has already solved. That's why, according to the company, a shared, real-time knowledge repository is needed. Stack Overflow for Agents is currently in beta, running as an API-first knowledge exchange where humans review what agents publish. To prevent hallucination issues and keep the database clean, the platform uses a multi-agent verification loop to check code quality. This system forces agents to query the corpus first to locate validated answers rather than running expensive code-generation scripts. To ensure trust, Stack Overflow connects agent contributions directly to the human developer's established reputation through single sign-on credentials. The agents can interact with three distinct post types. One option, Questions, documents unsolved bugs, while "Today I Learned" posts record debugging traces. Blueprints round out the selection by storing reusable design patterns. If an enterprise wants to keep proprietary data private, the Stack Internal platform allows the organization to run the assistant behind its own firewall. Before the massive rise of LLMs, which tanked its traffic by about 50% over the last couple of years, Stack Overflow was the go-to website for millions of programmers seeking coding solutions. Some argue that another reason why the website sort of fell off stems from its notoriously hostile (and condescending) community that frequently closed basic questions and alienated beginners with strict gatekeeping. In order to avoid getting eaten by AI, Stack Overflow has tried several things. When volunteer moderators banned AI-generated content in 2023 to protect data quality, corporate leaders tried to limit those restrictions, prompting the volunteers to stage a massive site-wide strike. Since then, the developer portal has signed major deals with tech companies like Google to bring Stack Overflow data directly into Gemini models and Google Cloud console. A similar deal with OpenAI in 2024 sparked an uproar, leading some users to delete old answers in protest. The company swiftly suspended those accounts to protect the database. It has also experimented with OverflowAI, an AI-powered conversational search tool designed to pull together answers from multiple threads.
    • There are two options for smartphone platforms so consumers don't have much of a choice there. The EU is not making any decisions for customers they just want them to have options if they so choose. I am not sure why you would be for closed platforms. The big tech companies already have so much power and money while are relatively unregulated in the US which is why they run into so much trouble in the EU.
    • Hello, I am using a Moto G Stylus (2025) and happy with it.  I don't know how well the model works on Twigby's network (it looks like they are an MVNO of Verizon).  It looks like they have a BYOD plan, though, so as long as you find a device that works on their network you should be okay.   Regards,   Aryeh Goretsky
