[Official] Anime/Manga Thread

I was right, wasn't I? Important characters were omitted and the bad acting was too painful to watch.

Yep, the Onizuka character felt weak mentally/physically and the plot was nowhere near as brutal as the anime. Did you watch the first live-action episode of Nodame Cantabile yet?

I aspire to become Eikichi Onizuka minus being the most powerful/feared bike gang member and bad history of delinquency. He's THE fictional character that I could relate to the most.

With panties being thrown at you?

Radish?

I sure hope they make an anime out of sequel to GTO. [optimism]Maybe they are waiting to create a wide enough gap with the manga before starting the anime so that they won't interlap quickly   [/optimism]

Hellz yeah.

I'll get around to the Nodame episode when I finish up my course work and my work out. I will give an opinion tomorrow.

I just read all the Naruto manga from the beginning to the latest chapter and I have to say... *struggles for words* Some of the characters are fantastic, such as Kakashi and Naruto especially. It's probably one of the few characters I've come across in a long time that I immediately enjoyed reading about. Everything a guy could like is in this manga. Ninjas, ninja moves, good detailed emotional background stories, action, large chests, small chests, great rivalry...The first two arcs were fantastic and very involved and cool. Naruto has few of the best characters ever to grace the manga world.

However...

The execution of all the fantastic themes and characters is one of the worst I've ever come across.

The mangaka chose the "cool" guy to become the main character instead of Naruto for almost the entirety of the manga. The manga shouldn't have been called Naruto. It should have been called Naruto for the first two arcs, then "Sasuke" for the rest. Sasuke is essentially a character that your jaw drops down in incredulity. It's like when one wakes up from a good night's sleep and look forward to eating a tasty breakfast to start his day only to be slapped in the face with soggy cardboard that's been laid out in the rain for years. Sasuke's personality and joke of a childhood story should be nominated as one of the worst characters ever to become the a protagonist of a manga in the Shounen genre.

Naruto is a must read for any manga reader but it certainly is not the best or even average. It's just bad. The mangaka probably mixed Pokemon, Fullmetal Alchemist, Yu Yu Hakusho and Dragon Ball into one giant cauldron and thought that resulting soup would be excellent. It's not.

I am still going to read it because I actually thoroughly enjoyed Naruto as a character and his supporting cast. If you're a fast reader and don't mind spending a few hours to catch up on the 40+ volumes of manga, then you should pick it up like I did. If not, then it's just another long Shounen manga.

Just to clarify: Naruto cannot be compared to Bleach or One Piece. They're completely different beasts. The only similarity is that they're all in the Shounen genre with plenty of shots of girls' chests, fights, rivalry and harem/love interest.

Anyone know of anime similar to Whisper Of The Heart? Watched it again a few days ago, never get bored of it

Whisper of the Heart is quite a innocent childhood love story. It's not my cup of tea since there's way too much sugar in it but it was enjoyable nevertheless.

from your review it sounds like the naruto manga is actually good, where the anime was good for a while (while sasuke was in it) but then it turned into fluff, even more so than normal.

It's one of the few series in both the manga and anime world that has impressed me this past year.

One major flaw, plot wise, is the pace of events. It is very inconsistent and knocked me out of my suspension of disbelief at times. It takes around 20 volumes for the manga to get interesting after the first two arcs because it follows Sasuke's angsty nature. Sasuke is one of the most angsty, most annoying characters I've ever come across. I've read a lot of manga from the obscure one shots to epic 50+ series and Sasuke should be rated as one of top five worst characters of all time. The mangaka should have kicked between the legs for wasting the potential for Naruto to be a masterpiece and let it sit up in the ranks of Berserk and Planetes. If you're a seasoned reader or anime watcher, then you'll definitely pick up on the obvious similarities that Naruto has with flagship franchises such as Berserk, Fullmetal Alchemist and a few others. Its plot twist in fact is very inconsistent and on par with "WTFness" of FMA.

It's a must read despite it's glaring flaws.

You found my missing post :p

I've been looking at the MAL recommendations and they don't really come close to Ghibli's work :)

Radish?

This scene made me laugh and raise my eyebrows at the bold joke. Togusa (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) commenting on a photo that he was flipping through during an investigation. It's too bad that it was cut out of the summary movie, GiTS: The Laughing Man.

Radish™

No problem, least I could do.

You've already watched all my suggestions. Porco Rosso, Midori no Hibi and Ocean Waves. :p

I remember that. Guess Togusa is not all about work when he actually gets home to his wife :p

It's appreciated, anyone else got any other suggestions? :)

Watched the first two episodes of Dance in the Vampire Bund. Not bad so far, slightly disappointed with the animation by SHAFT and I felt the first two episodes could have been merged into one to progress the plot faster (it being a 12-episode anime an all).

Kurumi getting rejected softly by Kazehaya was total win in Kimi no Todoke (does this anime have any bad episodes?! :p)

Radish?

A few of you guys are watching "Kimi ni Todoke", whats it about and is it worth watching?

Portrays friendship, love and a nice dose of comedy like you've never seen before. Watch Sawako's character in action and you'll be hooked (Y)

V I can't stop laughing. Pure Genius!!!

LOL!

Radish?

I think Durarara!! is going to be a masterpiece with its bunch of odd/wacky characters (Mikado is not the brightest bulb :p) :D Sweet animation by Brains Base and some parts reminded me of Denno Coil (character interaction). I enjoyed the first two episodes (Y)

Radish?

Thought you'd be happy

Spike Spiegel - Cool, classy, jazz musician get up with, maybe north African/Mediterranean descent (light skinned)

Keanu Reaves - Neo from The Matrix

I'm not upset but the potential of how much this movie can fail is staggering. The appeal to the manga/anime fans is against the odds. I'm hoping to be proven VERY wrong. Hopefully, it won't be along the lines of Jake Gyllenhall as the prince of Persia.

First look:

Another note: Akira Live-Action is canceled.

    • The problem of course is simply that government does not always know best. My point is that agency is taken away from the EU consumer in these cases. I'm sorry, but I do not believe that governments (politicians) are inherently good, and "looking out for me." Primarily they look to themselves and their own personal desires first, foremost, and always. When the EU or the DOJ fines these companies, claiming to "represent the welfare of the consumer," how much of these billion-dollar judgments are handed to the consumers they claim to represent? Not even a dollar, as I've seen. Yet the EUC lawyers who are paid to sit around and dream up these suits make huge commissions on the fines the EUC adjudicates, which is an ironclad fact I hope everyone is aware of. It's also rank corruption, of course, but that's another topic. Last, when the EU inflicts these judgments, or the DOJ, take your pick, the costs are bundled right along in the cost of the goods and services these companies provide the consumers they are "looking out for." If you are someone who believes his government is his savior then you have my condolences. I think Apple is right here, because the whole scheme of consumer choice is that consumers pick and choose among the products companies offer. Microsoft Windows is more compatible with third party software and hardware than any desktop OS on Earth, which is my sole reason for choosing it. Just because the EUC forces companies do certain things it knows the companies do not want to do, "or else", has no bearing on consumer benefit. This Siri thing is almost idiotic it's so infantile. But this is what the EUC does when the EU in Brussels becomes cash-strapped and needs a big infusion of cash. Some people get upset by "big companies" but it's the opposite when governments dwarf the size and scope of these companies, which is so obvious it hurts.... I mean you can't honestly believe that forcing Apple to do things with Siri it has its own reasons to decline is something that "opens up" Apple, do you? Say it aint' so...
    • Looks like many years since the request was made, a directory tree view finally may be added. https://github.com/files-community/Files/pull/18537
    • There's this from last year https://gist.github.com/threat...364659a8887841aa43deca4efd9 but nothing about a buffer overflow that MS somehow can't code against. No matter what, it makes sense to take a "protected by default" approach.
