uTorrent (Mac Beta) is now available...

Not sure if this has been posted yet or not, but the first official beta for uTorrent on the Mac is now available. Requires Mac OS X Leopard and an Intel processor.

My first impression? It's nice, but isn't as minimal as Transmission. The speeds are there, though, and I think the final product will give Transmission a run for its money. I also like the application icon.

Thanks mate for the link, ill try it as soon as I can find something interesting to try downloading.

Edit: Crap, no tetris!

UI wise:

1. Sidebar icons are terrible.

2. Toolbar shouldn't have an Open button in it.

3. The Close Sidebar button is a boatload of fail.

4. The gradient on the Info pane is wrong. Should be just like the one iTunes uses.

5. Why does the segmented control in the info pane have no padding at the top?!

6. At least the app icon is 512 px.

7. The sidebar is the proper one (It goes grey when inactive and the highlight switches to Graphite when it should).

8. The recessed buttons in the status bar are right justified :/

Compared to the Windows version you guys got a nice piece of eye candy there.

Actually, I think the Windows version looks better. To me, this is like Firefox on Mac OS X. It tries to look native, but it's not, and it shows. Transmission has a much better UI, not to mention it can do this:

Talk about minimal! I'd like to see uTorrent do that in a future beta.

Sure that's minimal, but not very practical.

It's practical once you have a file in there, as the progress bar also shows how much has been uploaded and downloaded. If I had shown it with a file in there, you'd get what I'm talking about. It's one of things I like about Transmission, the fact that it can be very, very minimal if you want it to be.

uTorrent is the same in that concept.

I have no big problems with transmission, it's just that I find columns far more practical and efficient for widescreen monitors. Each torrent in the utorrent window only takes up 20px of vertical space (compared to transmission's enormous 65px), but still lets you see the any of the following information in columns:

Far more ideal for me.
