Gran Turismo 5 - Christmas 2009

Again, not so much about size.

Field of View. the cockpit blocks off a huge portion of your side view, and on top of that, cockpit views use a camera with a lower FOV to start with.

PErsonally I find FOV improtant when I drive a car. and the camera is either on the bumper or the roof. Forza at the very least ( dunno about GT5P and GT5 what cameras they have) have one camera insidethe car, normal driving position, with the car invisible, and another with the ron of the car visible so you see over the hood of the car, wich is what I normally use when I drive with a wheel.

FOV in a racing sim is too improtant to sacrifice to visual detail you don't see when you drive an actual car even, Again i I was using a 3-4 monitors multi view setup, then yeah, then I could see using the cockpit, but on on a single screen setup. Maybe with that fancy head tracker thing they have support for in GTR.

That's okay HawkMan, chill out, just use another view then. That's why there's multiple options in GT, let alone most racing games.

You're initial argument was the cockpit is unrealistic, which it's not.

Yes, the

has nothing to do with the cockpit being there :s

and wtf, there is no cockpit in your car? seriously?

The FOV has soethign todo with the interior being one when it limits your normal Game FOV of 70 degrees to closer to 50 because if the interiors structure. basically they make it as if you sit somewhere behind the back seats... wich is mpressive on cars that don't have them, but this is simply due to it being ameras and not real eyes.

Personally when I drive a care. not only do I not have a 30-40 m vertical gap to look through, in my normal sitting position I can see siginificanly wider (FOV) through the windshield without being obstructed by the A-frames, than I can on a racign game even without the cockpit.

The actual racing sim realism may be the same, but the view size, and view FOV isn't very realistic compared to driving without it. beside why waste screen space on non improtant stuff when the track is what's important. MS should add TrackIR to the 360 though, and sell it in a pckage with the wheel and Forza 3 :)

The youtube videos of peopel playing GTR with TrackIR is simply amazing.

Maybe his car is actually.... A BIKE!

:o

:p

Then I'd only be playing PGR4 :p

No, really, why would you want to drive with the cockpit view?

I have my steering wheel in front of me, then another one on the screen? Not realistic.

Not to mention the fact it's hard to see the track that way. For me it's either full view or chasing camera.

Personally, I think it's just too late.

Too late for what? The Christmas 2008 sales? You are indeed correct.

No one has mentioned the fact that GT came out 3 years into the original Playstations life cycle and GT3 was about a year in. They still sold by the bucket load. They have given us GT5:P to see us through while they work on the finished product. I'm happy with that tbh.

Woah, I missed all the fun. :p

Looking forward to it, and so are a good number of my friends. :D

And why are people mentioning the next generation of consoles all ready?

They better not come soon, I will sorely be disappointed if the next Xbox comes out after only 4-5.

I haven't had a chance to get one yet, and if anything the NXE only shows a longer commitment to it, getting a bit ahead of yourselves I think, and can only hope.

Too late for PS3.

Now a little preface. I do love my 360, but I am a consumer. I choose what makes sense and not bury my head deep into the ass of any company because that's just illogical. With that said, prior to purchasing a 360, I thought and leaned towards PS3. After all, from dollar standpoint, it made more sense: blu-ray, easily upgradable storage, wifi built-in, free online access, and so on.

Then I thought about the games. The biggest titles I am interested in for PS3 is Final Fantasy 13 and GT 5. When are they coming? God knows. What what do you know? Now FF 13 will be on 360 as well. And I have no interest in Metal Gear Solid, so there really isn't an exclusive on PS3 I was interested in. The dollar versus actual hardware value made sense though... though it means little when it can't provide entertainment value.

I am not sure what the ties Sony has with Polyphony, but I bet if they could, they would make GT 5 for 360 as well.

On the last note... it's too late simply because by that time, 360's market share would dwarf the PS3's. Will it sell? Sure, but definitely not as much since those potential PS3 buyers would have bought a 360 while waiting for it to come out.

You're in a topic stating GT5 coming in 2009.

And your own preference for the 360 means the game is clearly to late for yourself (you've already bought your 360 ages ago and have decided it's all you need), but saying it's to late for a whole generation of gamers is just ignorant.

What about everyone who currently owns a PS3 or will buy one next year, or the following year, or years later? If you think the PS3 is finishing this generation with an install base of 17-20 million you're going to be bitterly disappointed :p

3 years, or 2 years for Europe into a consoles lifespan is just plain and simply not to late.

Unless you think we're getting the PS4 and Xbox 3 in year 4, and even then the PS2 proves it's completely able to continue selling AAA games after the next wave of consoles have been released.

If we finish with say 80-100 million 360's/PS3's sold, all of those people are not buying a PS4/Xbox 3 day 1, heck, even year 1, year 2 or year 3.... Look at current install bases versus the PS2s install base and the 360 has been out 3 years, PS3, 2 years.

People buy the consoles in masses later in generations when libraries have bulked up considerably, and prices have plummeted.

So seriously, all this doom and gloom talk about games coming out in year 3/year 2 being to late, consoles are finished, etc, is just depressing to hear from gamers. I don't know why people this generation reside in wanting/praising/hoping for and/or pursuing failure, it's just plain and simply stupid. Don't worry your chosen console will do well, but so will competition this generation, so get over it!

Gran Turismo 1 came onto the Playstation 1 roughly at the same amount of time GT5 is taking for the PS3 (2-3 years), and no prologue was released for it I don't think. That never done anything bad for the PS1 (sold just over/under 10 million), and it proves, GT is never aimed to be a launch title, it always comes later down the line.

That's the expectations the fans have, and anyone not knowing that clearly never owned a PS1/PS2, or hasn't followed GT games before.

I am not sure what the ties Sony has with Polyphony, but I bet if they could, they would make GT 5 for 360 as well.

Polyphony is an internal Sony studio, it's Sonys own, so no it's not coming to the 360.

Polyphony Digital Inc. is an internal video game developing company of Sony Computer Entertainment and is part of the newly formed Sony World Studios. The studio was formerly known as Polys Entertainment, but after the success of Gran Turismo they were granted greater autonomy and their name changed to Polyphony Digital.

Sony unable to confirm Gran Turismo 5 release date

Responds to rumour that the game will be launched in Christmas 2009.

Last week Sony's chief executive in southern Europe, James Armstrong was reported to have revealed to Spanish newspaper El Financiero that Gran Turismo 5 will be released at Christmas 2009. However, Sony Computer Entertainment UK was unable to confirm the game's release when speaking to VideoGamer.com today.

"Polyphony are working on GT5, but we cannot confirm a launch date at this point in time," said a Sony Computer Entertainment UK spokesperson.

Given that Gran Turismo 5 Prologue was released in the UK back in March 2008 we certainly hope the full game will be at least close to completion come Christmas 2009.

Pretty much expected since it's not in Sony's hand. Might come earlier or later, no one knows for sure.

    • EA reached out to our reporter that mainly does gaming content and reviewed loads of other games, why would this be shocking to anyone? I admit maybe we were considered this time around because of the extra coverage UFC was getting and they wanted a broader audience for this release? IDK. I can tell you that we aren't paid to do the reviews, the fun part of it is (mostly) being able to keep what we review and giving an honest opinion on what we're reviewing.
