neoadorable
disagree with you audio. unless someone is a real monster, familiarity comes first. if i know someone i'll give them lots of leeway, and if i know the context they're coming from, then it'll take quite a lot for me to get angry at them. i know the context here, and it's not a bad one. this is not like the thread's original case, where only a few weeks of experience were involved. i've been seeing underoath here for much much longer, and he's been very helpful in many cases. but you guys are right that his isn't a perfect attitude even by my definition - and i also think most grow out of it. Green_Eye
Neo you do realise that prior to your posts in this thread and if you played with him online competitively he would of trash talked you to death right? Holding on to something that happened in May 2007 on a Halo 3 match that really was pure luck( the mongoose shot on Munky) and bringing it up in a discussion in Dec 2008 really sums up Underoath, I have tried to be neutral here but that's just f***ing pathetic. Once a person crosses the line into arrogance they lose all respect I had for them. Sorry to be judgemental but you seem like a really nice guy that I would assume by your posts maybe gets walked all over too many a time and kindness taken advantage off. I think this purely because you are defending him. No offense of course :)
Behemoth
Not really weighing in on the XBL issue, don't have a dog in the fight. The only MP game I play is UT2004 on the PC, and the smack talk is pretty tame, most of the noobs keep quiet. Smack talking after winning among friends is one thing, but remember we were all n00bs once. You don't wanna be the guy that pwns someone the first time they play the game online and then talk smack to them do you? If everyone did that, the servers would be deserted. Bot matches everywhere. What if someone PMed you to 'kill yourself' after your first online match? You probably wouldn't play that game anymore, that's not good for the community. But whatever, like I said, I'm not on XBL. Some people just need in-game etiquette. Edited December 5, 2008 by Behemoth
trix
Am I the only one who had to lookup "smack" on urbandictionary? I tend to just mute/report/block people who are repeatedly rude/attempt to harass me.

You have moments in gaming that you won't ever forget and that was one of them and he happens to be that one that it happened to. I don't ever remember talking to smack to everyone or many people from Neowin on XBL other than Drunken boy which was out of being playful which I'm assuming he must have taken as a threat. I'm sorry I feel confident in my gaming skills must be a shame, huh? The sad part is people were freaking out of a massive message I sent to everyone which is the really pathetic part. Also, for me being a "Xbox Live Thug" I don't go around insulting anyone by saying they are a a**/b****/d*** whatever the case must be on XBOX LIVE (I've said a few things on here though. I've seen more name calling towards me then anyone else of this board, that's where most you guys can't even see because you (not referring to anyone just people in general)are so blind because they are upset about nothing. Also it is very discouraging when a global mod I believe is also joining in the trash talk. If you look in most threads I've been helpful and one of the first to respond with "Auto-Sign on/off" issues since someone doesn't understand. Say what you want to say it's not going to run me off this forum. I promote people to raise their gamerscore makes our community leaderboard look strong atoo. This has been taken to a whole different level which is pretty sad. To be really honest the fact I was taking sides with the "Thugs" doesn't not make me look bad, it just shows how open-minded you guys really "aren't". To be really honest the fact I was taking sides with the "Thugs" doesn't not make me look bad, it just shows how open-minded you guys really "aren't". Do I think you went over the line in same cases? Without a doubt, especially with a certain line, but one thing I did find curious is no one ever reported you for that line. I think part of the reason for that was because a decent amount of people did realize it was definitely a gang mentality in here, and it was without a doubt everyone against you, and that a whole lot of people went over the line of decency. So not saying it was right, but when it is one against all, that tends to bring out the worse in people right there. So you could have easily gotten a warning for that comment, easily, but the name calling was from both sides, but it was you vs everyone, which is not a fun place to be. I also respect the very simple fact you were willing to say you are indeed at times one of those trash talkers, but I think you did a pretty good job of also explaining why you choose to do so. Most people obviously do not like it, but you were honest enough with everyone to say well this is why I do it. So are you confident? Hell yeah. But are you also obviously very competitive? Without a doubt, and you have made that crystal clear since we all did play Halo 03 way back when, nevermind other threads you have discussed going to tournaments, etc. And just as you said, I really do not remember anything at all when we all played Halo 03 except some friendly trash talking, and that really was it. So I really was / still am disgusted to see this thread turn into what it turned into.
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 5, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted December 5, 2008 Sorry to hear that you feel that way Larry, but you can't not expect a gangland majority around smack talking. No level headed people like it, so if someone admits to it they're going to feel the flames. My personal feeling leaves it inexcusable, I don't care if you're honest to admitting to it, there is absolutely no reason to go online and play a game and give other people a bad time due to your insults/comments/irrational behaviour. I detest it and anyone who admits to enjoying doing it, should definitely be put in a one vs majority category. The only time I ever see reason to be considerate is when someone gets roped into it, being provoked, as it's easy to lose your cool at times, and that happens to the best of us. But the people that do the provoking for no reason, are pathetic. Bullies online. Now, UND3RxOATH may not be as bad as that (I've never played with the guy), but he certainly did not help himself coming to a place where a majority vote against smack talking was clearly going to be the case, and admitting to it. Then the comment posted in this thread didn't do much to help. Anyway, enough of getting on his back, may his competitive side and strive to be good continue (nothing wrong with that at all), but hopefully one day the crappy comments he supposedly says online subside, as they only tarnish what seems to be a genuinely skilled online player. Have the right attitude to go with the skills, and you'll get mountains of respect from gamers (Y) Unfortunately many think the bad ass attitude will get you more respect with your skills, when no, it really doesn't. DrunknMunky Veteran Posted December 5, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 5, 2008 Drunken boy Lawl, sorry what age are you again? Oh yeah  You're the boy here, not me! Why do you think you've been suspended from XBL and voice banned in the past? Because people love hearing you trash talk so much? Or maybe because you're a griefer and people hate it? Yeah, exactly. If you've gone far enough to be warned/suspended then it's obviously more than a little incentive to make the other team play harder.
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted December 5, 2008 Veteran Share Posted December 5, 2008 Sorry to hear that you feel that way Larry, but you can't not expect a gangland majority around smack talking. FTR, no one hates trash talkers more than me, honestly no one. I just encountered some on Live last night, and I reported all of them. I maybe would have let go if two of they did not insist on the senseless racism, but that combined with their trash talking truly sent me overboard more than usual. I was not really talking in regards to the topic of the thread, just the actions of members within the thread.

neoadorable
green eye, i'm a sensitive fella but not to the point you suggested...i generally have very little patience for people, admit to that much, this is one of the reasons i come here. i think we're not typical people. no "chosen" fantasies, i just think it takes another level of consistency and commitment to come here regularly and actually write something. believe you me 80% of the herd aren't up to that. underoath is, he's here and what he posted above is all true, he does come out to help new users and he more than certainly has been consistent with the leaderboard. all i'm saying for the third time is these all make the smack talk pale in context. If i get dissed online by underoath i'll just smile coz i'll know where he's coming from. once more, this is different from total strangers or even what Ayepecks described, people he only knew a short time, why can't we agree on this? We can't because that kind of mentality ruins an online experience even if it is among friends. I hate any form of bullying and as AB said this is online bullying if you are going to talk trash to someone when you clearly don't need to. It's arrogant and it's elitist and its above all senseless. UnderOath is the kinda guy that would be a really great guy but has this unnecessary tough guy mentality that keeps him from being a likable guy. neoadorable
don't want to sound too much like a broken record, so won't repeat why i disagree with your above post. besides, how can a person you know to be good stop being good just for being himself? that doesn't make sense to me. you know the guy is like that, it's his nature, you know he doesn't mean harm. i think we just need to move on, there's no need to over discuss this point. for the record i ain't a hypocrite, i don't like bullies either, but personal contact and acquaintance come first.
