COD WaW or Left4Dead?

Recommended Posts

Im with DM. I hated the fact they went back to WW2. People only like it becuase it has zombie mode. Thats what people said all day on the day it came out at gamestop. Everytime they bought it frm me "cant wait for zombie mode". thats the only reason people bought the game.

The truth is, TREYARCH IS DUMB. They keep going back. Infinity Ward is doing it right. COD4 was THE BEST out of the whole series. Everyone knows its true. Dont even hide it. I have more people online on COD4 then WAW.

Btw, L4D all the way. Valve never seizes to amaze me.

Oh seriously GTFO with these random statements.

Oooh Sethos doesn't like it when something he  is insulted eh :p

Yeah Zombie mode really is all I hear you and AJ going on about. Hell, when Peter and I joined your party the other week it was what you were playing!

I used to support Treyarch and their games, especially when they got a lot of bad rep after COD3, but this time they really deserve it. Awful devs, lazy as hell and they are riding on the success of COD4. Even one of the devs from IF had enough of it and told a Treyarch employee to shut up when he kept comparing his game instead of selling his own!

Because it's something different, god forbid we talk about that. Me and AJ has played together twice, one of them being Zombie mode, wow huh

You didn't even play or like Call of Duty 4 either, that was also just complaining all day long, so why blame Treyarch? It's just an excuse to moan.

Oh and people only like L4D because it has a green cover. See, random statements are random (Y)

Why break what doesn't need fixed?

I've been playing COD5 online and it's as fun as I found COD4 online, but still different experiences due to the scenery/guns/time era/etc.

I had lower expectations for the game due to the absolute hell people online threw at Treyarch, but after playing COD5 I realize how much of it is as bad a hissy fit as people dissing on EA for absolutely no reason.

It's almost like "joining the hate bandwagon" because it's cool?

Now now, before anyone stabs me voicing the "opinion card", I know I know, I'm talking about people who blow missiles everytime "Treyarch" is mentioned for no real good reason. We had armies of people proclaiming the game was doomed before it was even out, and I know Treyarch don't have the best track record, but "doomed"? On hindsight, that was rather silly predicting.

People actually say COD5 is a "horrible game" (we're talking about those who like FPS games/liked COD4). I mean WTF? I'll show you some genuinely horrible FPS games.

Yeah, does seem like people just want to hate the game because it's Treyarch who is behind it yet noone wants to admit they actually did a pretty decent job. Then the excuses start with "Going back to WW2", yes that may not be the most interesting thing in the world to do again, but the game upholds the same high quality as Call of Duty 4 did. Built on the same engine with the same elements that made CoD 4 very popular. Treyarch even opened up all the maps they implemented and allows for more tactical gameplay and they even tweaked the weapons to such a degree, they feel completely different from Call of Duty 4.

Yes, the game does have issues! Some seen in Call of Duty 4 while others are more exclusive, still is a solid game. Only 'problem' with the game as I've said a few times is, when you've played too much Call of Duty 4, the jump between the games isn't that big and may not get the same "Whoa" experience as we got with CoD 4.

But stop blaming Treyarch - They did an excellent job this time around.

Had a discussion with a Danish online-friend where he kept going on and on about how they "Copied" the game, except it's two extremely different games on the same engine with some features carried over ... How many times haven't we seen that in sequels?! Yet the complaints only start now and it's just because people want to diss Trayarch, nothing more. The game was never broken, why the hell change the recipe then?

( I know I've been after Treyarch pre-release of the game and I actually respect them a lot more after this release )

So instead of beating the "It's WW2" and "Treyarch, bla bla" horse, come up with some proper arguments.

Why break what doesn't need fixed?

<snip>

Expect it is broken and does need fixed. It was very evident when I played the MP demo (beta) and it was the same in the final game.

I'm not jumping on any bandwagon, I've never done that (seeing as I still buy EA games and like I said sticked up for Treyarch in the past). This time though its a different story and I'm not going to cause it's essentially buying COD4 over again with a new skin. Whoopee..

There's nothing more that I would love right now than a good MP on the 360, because I'm missing out on a lot of NW matches. Why would I pass up on that just for some silly idea I'm on a "hate bandwagon". It's ridiculous. The game is ****, it's simple as that. My money is better deserved elsewhere. Hell, even playing it "at a friend's" is still not enough to make me play it :x

See this decision is hard for me because I don't know how long the lifespan of Left4Dead is. I have to agree with others that the game is just not fun if you're not playing with Friends. I just don't know when my xbox live friends will stop playing the game.

I am positive that if it did have any type of ranking system or unlocks that it would keep the online community lifespan breathing a lot longer.

As far as WaW, I just see more of a community out there, and like COD4, has a very good ranking system and leveling system that keeps people going back.

Also, another thing is DLC. I have no clue if Valve has any plans to offer free DLC to the XBOX Live community. We all know what happened with TF2. If they announce even more campains/maps/modes this would be a sure sell for me.

Finally, someone made a good point before. Since these are gamefly games, I can just re-rent them if people start playing again actively. My problem is that most xbox sessions are spontaneous and at like 12 midnight LOLz

Decisions...Decisions...

Okay, let's go by your logic, it's COD4 with a new skin.

How would that make it "****" ?

It would make it good, albeit pretty much a clone of COD4.

If you're saying COD5 is as **** as you're trying to make out, there's no way you could possibly of liked COD4.

You're not saying "meh I'll miss it as it's too similar to COD4", you're basically saying the game is terrible, and if you think COD5 is genuinely that bad, boy have you missed a lot of bad FPS games as of late.

I say L4D. I'm pretty sure Valve is going to be doing a lot of updates to it in the near future to iron out any problems it has right now (eg. desperately needs a server browser and to have more incentives to run a server). Also the modding community is hard at work to mod the crap out of the game (more maps, functionality, etc).

Oh seriously GTFO with these random statements.

Random?

Excuse me with your hostility there bud but ITS KIND OF A FACT that thats why people wanted it.

Yes people enjoy the multiplayer, ALL COD Players have loved it.

There was a survery too, All COD Players that followed all the series love the multiplayer, the fact with WHAT WAS ENTICIPATED was Zomebie Mode. Ill see if I can find the site later as right now I just got back from work, BUT, you cant tell me you wanted to go from Modern BACK to WW2.

Almost Most COD Fans wanted them to go BEYOND AND ABOVE, not Ok "lets go in past again, WW2".

So its random as it is to say you hate L4D for a green cover. Thats immature and stupid.

You've got both of them out and just need to keep one for PoP, right? Then I recommend buying WaW, but definitely holding onto L4D for a while longer. If you can afford it, buy L4D in a week or two, or later. I think both games are totally worth the $40 that gamefly charges to keep them.

I'm glad I read this thread because I was wondering what game to get between the two.

I think that Left 4 Dead has me more interested though. I haven't played a good zombie game in awhile, and it seems like it would be a good game to play with friends.

Can you do 4 player split-screen? If so, then I might have to get it :p

Because it's something different, god forbid we talk about that. Me and AJ has played together twice, one of them being Zombie mode, wow huh

Ok I didn't even see this post earlier so I'll reply to it now..

I don't have a problem with anybody liking a game which is different. Except that COD5 is the complete opposite of that and is a cut + paste job.

As for not liking COD4, wtf? Where did you get that from? I didn't play many games last December or in January for personal reasons, but I never said I didn't like COD4. If you ask Kick he will tell you we played COD4 quite a bit online when I had the chance. I actually made lots of plans with DL to also play, but as I said, other stuff got in the way.

And FTR, I hate L4D's cover (N) :p

Okay, let's go by your logic, it's COD4 with a new skin.

So I should like COD5 just because I liked COD4? Sorry but thats not how it works. I loved GTA3 but hated Vice City. It was pretty much the same game again but with a new skin, different vehicles, a different era and a new story. It was still **** imo. The same goes for San Andreas. Just because I liked one of them doesn't lock my opinion down to liking every game they produce there after.

Like I said, COD5 has problems that need fixing, it's not just the fact they copy & pasted the same game. Why would I want to drop ?40 down on something like that? It's just not worth it and I bet a few people around here who are sticking up for it didn't even buy it! I also[bdid>[/b]> say in the official topic when the demo (beta) came out that I don't like it because it is too similar to COD4. So I've no idea where you got that last comment from as you even replied to my post in the topic://

And I have played a lot of FPS out the last few months, there is definitely slim pickings as nobody really wants to go up against Gears of War 2, but L4D is definitely a fresh game and worth the money over COD5.

Also, another thing is DLC. I have no clue if Valve has any plans to offer free DLC to the XBOX Live community. We all know what happened with TF2. If they announce even more campains/maps/modes this would be a sure sell for me.

Well do you really expect a lot of DLC to be released for free for COD5? Why is that only a factor when you talk about L4D. It's pretty much hit and miss when it comes to which games have free DLC or not. I think COD2 & 4 had one free map or something, but for the larger content packs you needed to pay for them. You shouldn't compare L4D with TF2 as Valve learnt their lessonbig time> and made changes like the dedicated servers. I think it goes without saying that L4D will have more campaigns and maps added seeing as there is only 4 of them right now.

Except that COD5 is the complete opposite of that and is a cut + paste job.

Maybe so, it certainly feels just like 4, but i don't see that as a bad thing. How many Obsidian games felt identical to their Bioware predecessors? Did that make KOTOR 2 or NWN 2 bad games? Hell no! And CoD5 has more perks, more challenges, vehicles, co-op and zombies!! It's totally worth a purchase. Now, with that said, is it better than L4D? My love of zombies makes that a very difficult question to answer. Why can't "buy both" be the solution? I did...

Can you do 4 player split-screen? If so, then I might have to get it :p

I'll have to check the manual, but I'm thinking maybe so. It is the co-opiest co-op game I've ever played. The "take a break" feature that causes the AI to take over for you while you go AFK is awesome, the AI will also automatically take over for an idle player. You can definitely do 2 player split screen, I'm betting 4 player is possible also. I hope you've got a big TV though.

Ehhh don't use KOTOR as an example, thats another game I don't like :p I'm not a big RPG fan, even if it is Star Wars (which I love).

Perks I couldn't give a toss about, infact I disliked them in COD4 as well. I didn't like the unfair playing ground just because someone played the game day in and out so I'd have a 60 / 40 chance to beat them in a 1on1 situation. Challenges, meh they are ok. A good way to boost your XP and score no doubt but I never really cared for them either.

Zombies? Well I have a game dedicated to them right here which does it 100x better aka L4D :p

All I want is a good MP, with team death match and is fun to play. COD5 didn't fit the bill.

L4D = 100% a community game, pretty much a whole game focused on team death match. Has good MP and **** loads of fun to play! So every box is checked

@ Matrix, there is only 2 player split screen, but you can team up with two friends over XBL or system link (Y) And of course there is upto 4 player co-op over XBL.

I definitely won't disagree with you about the extreme awesomeness that is L4D DM, I absolutely love the game. There have been some incredible new IP's this year and L4D is among the best games of this generation. I highly recommend it. I just think that WaW is good enough to click "keep it" on gamefly.com.

    • Waymo recalls self-driving software after cars enter closed freeway work zones by Paul Hill Waymo, the self-driving car maker owned by Alphabet – the parent company of Google –, has recalled some of its fifth-generation Automated Driving Systems (ADS). It did so after some of its cars drove through closed construction zones. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected vehicles were capable of driving through a closed freeway construction zone and continuing to drive at speed. The listing on the NHTSA website says that Waymo is currently developing a solution to fix this issue, but in the meantime, freeway driving is being restricted. Waymo will update its ADS software so that vehicles can detect when they can avoid entering construction zones. According to the Safety Recall Report, on April 20, 2026, Waymo’s Field Safety Committee began meetings reviewing an event from April 11, 2026, and five events from April 19, 2026, where Waymo’s autonomous vehicles didn’t recognize and drove past ramp closure signs into the pre-planned freeway construction zones. This took place in Phoenix, Arizona. Separately, on May 18, 2026, seven Waymo vehicles entered freeway lanes with active construction in the San Francisco Bay Area by driving between cones that were placed to show the lane was closed. On the back of both of these events, Waymo restricted freeway driving until it could address the issue. In June, Waymo’s Safety Board reviewed the issue and additional information related to ADS performances around construction zones; then, as a result, it decided to conduct a recall. This development is not good for Waymo as it adds to a growing list of technical hiccups its cars have experienced. Ultimately, it will lead to more scrutiny from lawmakers around the world who will be more cautious about letting autonomous vehicles on their roads without tighter regulation. For readers in areas where Waymo operates, does this news make you more wary about stepping into one of these vehicles?
    • I'm still on Windows 10 22H2 because I didn't want to deal with all the issues in Windows 11, so I waited almost a week before installing the latest Patch Tuesday update (KB5094127), I went ahead and did it, and it was a huge mistake—ever since then, my File Explorer has seen a performance drop of about 30% when transferring large files... Once again, Microsoft has outdone itself! This update cannot be uninstalled, either through the Control Panel (via Settings) or by accessing Advanced Startup Options. The only possible alternative would be to use system restore points, but I’d have to reinstall all app and driver updates (and there’s no guarantee it would work). Or there’s the “nuclear option” of a in-place repair without losing files or apps, but even then, all my customizations would be lost! Microsoft just can’t help but mess everything up! Way to go, Microsoft! But I still don’t want your c****y Windows 11!
    • Microsoft: Windows 11 could finally solve a major issue across AMD, Nvidia, and Intel GPUs by Sayan Sen While Microsoft has been trying to improve it, Windows 11 is definitely not flawless, as even today some issues are taking a year to publicly acknowledge. However, one area of trouble that may finally see much better results soon is graphics driver crashes. Work on graphics driver timeouts, also called Timeout and Detection Recovery (TDR), is not new as the latest WDDM 3.2 also has specific improvements regarding it. Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) version 3.2 is supported on Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2. However, with the upcoming version 26H2, TDR crash diagnosis could go to the next level as Microsoft is introducing a new DirectX 12 API feature called "DirectX Dump Files". Similar to how system memory dump files work when a system crashes or freezes or encounters any such major issue, DirectX Dump Files (DDF) will essentially record a snapshot of the GPU execution right at the moment a graphics-related crash or hang or freeze occurs, so that developers can better understand and diagnoze these TDR and timeout detection errors. The dump will be available as a .dxdmp file for analysis and it will be a comprehensive dump file generated with detailed insights about the hardware, drivers, Windows, as well as the affected application. This should be another welcome change in this department. Earlier at GDC 2026, when the technology was first debuted, Microsoft had shared more details regarding it. The company had explained how DDF is designed to gather data from every layer of the graphics stack into a single file, eliminating the need for developers to manually correlate logs from multiple tools. As mentioned above, the dump can contain a lot of useful details like GPU hardware state information such as register values, shader program counters, page fault virtual addresses, shader memory data, and command buffers. Alongside that, it also captures DirectX runtime and kernel information, including D3D objects, pipeline state objects, device error data, adapter details, and CPU call stacks. Microsoft says the feature has been built around two primary use cases: retail device removals and local device removals. The former allows developers to collect crash information from end users' systems in the field, while the latter helps QA teams and developers investigate issues on test machines. Developers will also be able to include up to 2 MB of custom application data through new D3D12 APIs, providing additional context for troubleshooting. In addition, Microsoft is introducing three dump collection modes ranging from zero-overhead capture, which has no runtime performance impact on supported hardware, to higher-detail modes that collect more vendor-specific debugging data. On compatible Tier 2 hardware, zero-overhead dumps will be enabled by default, meaning developers may begin receiving useful crash diagnostics without making any code changes. The table below explains the three tiers: Tier Description NO_OVERHEAD Enables crash capture with no runtime cost and is suitable for broad deployment MEDIUM_OVERHEAD Provides a balance, capturing additional diagnostic data with moderate impact HIGH_OVERHEAD Collects the most detailed GPU and driver state available, enabling deeper investigation at the cost of higher runtime overhead In terms of availability, the company expects broader release to be around the fall of 2026, which should be right around the time when Windows 11 version 26H2 lands. Right now, DirectX Dump Files are available as a preview and currently, only AMD has the compatible AgilitySDK Developer Preview driver version 26.10.07.02. You can find the official announcement post here on Microsoft's website.
