Uncharted 2

Really looking forward to this one, enjoyed the characters, graphics and general vibe of the first one.. if they can build on that and improve even more, it'll be great :) I thought the shooting/cover was handled well in the original (no emptying a whole clip in the face of enemies a la Underworld), but would like it if they increased the exploration/puzzle part of the game instead.

@Soniq, Halo 3 pwns. Accept it  You don't have to like it, but it was successful cause it was a fantastic game (Y)

I watched Halo 3 for all of about 10 minutes. I'm going on the word of my 360 fanboy friends who spent months trying to convince me I needed to get a 360 to play H3 with them, were setting aside work days for release, and about a month after release were playing CoD4 completely disappointed with H3.

Naughty Dog: Uncharted 2 Teaser is Real-Time

The Uncharted 2 teaser trailer sent waves through the forums. One question that kept arising; is the trailer rendered in real-time, or is it fancy CGI? Naughty Dog has exclusively given Gamezine the answer.

Richard Diamant, Naughty Dog's Lead Character Artist, told Gamezine; "Yes, the trailer was all rendered real-time in our engine."

So there you have it. Naughty Dog are one of the few developers to dislike creating false expectations with CGI trailers, and just like Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, their very first teaser is rendered in real-time.

To watch the trailer, please follow this link to our previous story on the title.

[uPDATE] - I'm noticing a lot of people saying, "So what if it's real-time? It's a cutscene not gameplay." If we refer back to a Richard Diamant interview I gave in 2007, the differences between cutscenes and gameplay were few and far between in the original game;

"Patrick: The characters in Uncharted are some of the most impressive video game models to date. They look even more impressive up close in the cutscenes. Are the in-game models any different from the cutscene models?

Richard: Thanks! Nope, the in game models are the exact same models that are used in the cutscenes. They also use the exact same textures. There really is no difference between them at all.

The only difference between the cutscenes and in game is a little higher quality lighting and shadowing. Hopefully not too noticeably different. We really wanted to keep the players immersed as much as possible. This meant using the same assets across the board."

Really looking forward to this. I absolutely enjoyed the first game. It was by no means ground breaking, no argument from me there, but it looked great and I had no issues with the controls at all.

Awesome Uncharted 2 screens look awesome! :D

That's part of the 9 or 10 page article I think it is.

When I find better scans I'll post em!

I saw them just now too, and was going to post them, but then got carried away sipping my coffee, and well, totally forgot what I was doing.

Looking good though, can't wait for it. :D

Uncharted 2 is the cover story with (what I believe is) the first screens of the game.

- The biggest thing in the article IMO is that there's a new girl named Chloe Frazer. GI asked about Elena and Sully's return but they had no comment.

- The story is about looking for the ships that Marco Polo "lost" while returning home to Italy.

- Melee combat is more dynamic now.

- They mentioned they were using only 30% of the PS3's power with Drake's Fortune and are planning to use nearly 100% with Among Thieves.

- A demo was shown to GI with Drake going through a city (I believe in Nepal), and he's stealthily taking out guards and escaping the city.

- Nolan North returns to be Drake and Chloe Frazer is played by Claudia Black (Stargate SG-1, Fargate).

- The Sixaxis mechanics were ditched for such things as throwing grenades.

- One of the weapons revealed is a rocket launcher that Chloe uses (might only be for the cinematic).

- There are no load screens.

- The score is being composed by Greg Edmonson (same guy from the first one).

- Weapons can be used in any stance (running, behind cover, hanging, climbing a wall, etc.).

- You can now move while aiming behind cover.

Sorry if that's old or a lot. There's some other stuff that they talk about but I'm not sure how to explain. Also, I've already found an easter egg. In one of the screenshots there is a sign to "Hotel El Dorado".

- I'm not sure how to explain this one so this is what it says:

"In Uncharted 2, every character fully interacts with the dynamic geometry moving around them, and environments in the background are real parts of the game world"

"If Drake's on top of a train, he's going to be shaking with the train as it moves around"

"As he gets inside, his moveset is going to change, and he's going to be a lot more secure because the wind's not blowing."

- The graphics look better than Uncharted 1.

- Button sequence cinematics such as the final boss have changed so now Drake is now fully controllable in these parts...I think (This one's also hard to describe).

- Climbing seems improved upon. You can climb lamp posts now among other new things.

- If there is an enemy patrolling a rooftop you're climbing a wall to, you can pull him off the roof while hanging on the wall.

It also mentions a few of the places Drake visits but I don't know if you want it spoiled. It tells you where the game ends.

Gamefaqs

No Elena or Sully, they better come back!

When is the game out? I want it now.

I wants don't get :p

You'll just have to wait like everyone else!

I'd expect it to release near the end of 2009 tbh, I can't see them changing too much with the engine so it'll be quicker developed when they are working on SP (possibly even with a headstart using ideas that were cut from UDF).

Seeing as it's not exactly the best game for MP, I hope they add some sort of co-op. It definitely needs something after completing the SP anyway.

Good call, an offline or online co-op would be great.

MP could be pirates v. mercs (ninjas in disguise).

I really wish with sequels that they wouldn't put the sequel number in the title of the game. Why not just call it Uncharted: Amoung Thieves.

Because people then either think

a) Expansion pack

b) Remake

or a favourite around here when Motorstorm Pacific Rift came out

c) Half-baked, just an update to MS1 as it has no "2" in the title

Which of course is pretty wrong, seeing as it improved on the 1st game in everyway :p

I don't remember anyone saying it was half baked because it lacked "2" in the title.

It was just half baked :p

Nah it certainly isn't (referring to pacific rift), you'd know that if you played it

And yeah PiracyX was going on about it in the past because it wasn't called Motorstorm 2.

    • Windows 11 KB5094126, KB5093998 bugging out Office apps but it may not be Microsoft's fault by Sayan Sen Microsoft last week released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. Although the tech giant did not acknowledge any major problems, some users online reported various issues ranging from OneDrive and Dropbox access problems, BitLocker recovery lockouts, to blue screens and BSODs. You can read about them in this dedicated piece. While there is still no confirmation about those problems from Microsoft the company has admitted to another bug which we did not report on. The tech giant has confirmed it has received reports of an issue in which certain third-party applications may be unable to launch Microsoft Office apps or open Office documents after installing the Patch Tuesday. This affects both Windows 11 as well as Windows 10. The company says the problem impacts a subset of applications that rely on OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) automation to communicate with Microsoft Office programs. According to Microsoft, affected scenarios involve third-party software attempting to open Office applications or documents from within their own interface. In such cases, the Office program may fail to launch altogether, or the requested document may not open. Oddly there may not be any error message, which probably makes the issue difficult to diagnose. The bug affects several Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other apps in the Microsoft Office suite when they are launched through the affected software. These include tax and accounting software such as CCH Engagement and Workpaper Manager, dental practice management solutions like Dentrix and Softdent, as well as the popular research and reference management tool Zotero. Microsoft adds that other applications using similar Office integration methods could also experience the same problematic behavior. To understand the issue it is important to look at OLE, the Microsoft technology involved. OLE allows different applications to work together and share data, while its Automation feature lets one program control another. Thus this enables third-party software to launch Microsoft Office apps, open documents, and perform tasks automatically without requiring users to switch between programs. Because many accounting, healthcare, research, and business applications rely on OLE automation to interact with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office apps, any disruption can break those workflows. As a result, affected software may be unable to open Office documents or launch Office applications even though the programs themselves continue to work normally. At the moment the company has not provided a permanent fix though it has confirmed that engineers are actively working on a resolution, which will be delivered through a future Windows update. As such additional details will be shared once more information becomes available. In the meantime, Microsoft recommends a simple workaround for affected users whic is to open the Office application or document directly rather than launching it through the third-party program. For enterprise customers and organizations managing larger deployments, Microsoft says an additional mitigation is available. Admins experiencing the problem on their managed devices are advised to contact Microsoft Support for business to obtain and apply the workaround.
