Deer gets revenge after hunter shoots him

Recommended Posts

Waking up before the sun, layering on the camouflage and sitting still and quiet in the woods for hours can become a headache for some hunters, but for one Sedalia man his hunting season turned out to be more than just a headache.

The second day of firearm season began just like any other for Randy Goodman, 47.

He headed to his tree stand northwest of Sedalia Nov. 16 and called his son, who was hunting near by to wish him good luck.

As daylight broke, a doe crossed his path and then two more.

"All of the sudden something came up beside them," Goodman said.

With his Remington .270 rifle in hand, he shot a nice buck broadside. The buck's front legs collapsed as it ran toward a fence and flipped over to the other side.

A second shot at about 30 yards away to the back of the neck put the buck down for good, or so Goodman thought.

A few minutes later Goodman went to check out his trophy. As he grabbed one horn he said, "Wow. What a big deer."

As the nine-point, 240-pound buck lay lifeless the unexpected happened. :shiftyninja:

The buck stood up and knocked Goodman on his butt, attacking him with his antlers.

"It was 15 seconds of hell," Goodman said.

Goodman thought the deer was trying to go through him as he fought it off the best he could. A few seconds later, the deer was off and running.

"I felt his front legs go over my face," Goodman said.

The buck ran 30 yards and fell down again and Goodman was worried the deer wasn't done yet.

"If he was going to come back I would be in trouble because I was in too much pain," Goodman said.

Goodman walked back to his tree stand and grabbed his gun, finally putting the buck down with two more shots to the neck.

"My face felt warm so I took off my glove and I noticed I was bleeding," Goodman said.

His jacket was soaked in blood and he was becoming dizzy. He called his son and brother for help.

"I knew something was wrong," Goodman said.

He was far back in the woods and knew he would be hard to find, so he jumped back into his truck and drove to the road.

"I was afraid I was going to bleed to death," Goodman said.

In the emergency room, Goodman received seven staples in the left side of his scalp and suffered a light concussion. His right arm and chest were bruised.

Goodman has been hunting since 1979 and said this freak accident taught him one thing.

"I learned a valuable lesson, if you don't think they're dead, you might want to shoot them again," Goodman said.

The bully buck has already been processed and his antlers will soon decorate Goodman's wall.

I don't think the meat packing industry does it for sport. :)

No they do it for profit. Does that make it any better? If you are a vegan then you have a legitimate philosophical objection. If you eat meat though having someone else kill it for you does not make you better than the guy that kills it himself. In fact it makes you worse.

What an idiot. You let the deer lay there for at least 15 minutes before you go and check just in case something like this would happen. I've talked with many hunters that have seen a deer get up after a few minutes.

And nomis_nehc, either we do it or they'll die through other causes (auto, wolf, starvation, etc.). Agree with it or not, it's legal. I eat whatever I kill and I donate the deer hides to create more habitat for wildlife. And that's not just deer habitat.

Look at it this way...we're saving cows, chickens, pigs, fish, and any other tasty animal that isn't a deer ;)

Chalk one up for the animals. I always cheer for them. Bulls especially. ;)

I used to go hunting with my stepdad, but we ended up spending more time talking away than stalking prey.

I have nothing against hunting, I just like it when the prey evens things out a bit.

Maybe he should swap his Remington .270 for a .30-06 instead. Doesn't seem to be getting the job done if it took that many shots to put that deer down.

To John S., I wish I had some deer-b-q :( The best deer meat I've ever had was bbq'd. Good stuff. I've never been hunting though. Not that I have a problem with it, just that I don't have the patience for it lol. I like the quick and easy kills, I don't want to get up at the crack of dawn and freeze my ass off all day for a "chance" at a shot.

i dont really feel bad for this guy. while i realize that deer can overpopulate, i still dont like the thought of killing an innocent deer just for sport/fun.

It does say the deer was processed, that meat is going to be used for food. So that deer was not killed for just fun. Innocent has nothing to do with it. The cows and chickens are every bit as innocent. "Cute" does not equal innocent. (if Traci Lords has taught us nothing else)

I don't feel sorry for the guy either though. The deer do "win" sometimes. It is a reminder that if we don't use our advantages of brain and technology then mother nature will kick our ass.

But it isn't just for fun or sport, they're going to do something with the carcass. Killing them and leaving them there to rot would be different. I don't know any hunters that do this.

    • Poll: Grand Theft Auto VI price predictions, cast your vote by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe After years of waiting, Rockstar will be solidifying the launch date of Grand Theft Auto VI with the launch of pre-orders next week. While the studio has confirmed a date for this occasion, it is yet to attach a price to the highly anticipated game. So let's see what our readers think it will cost at launch. The Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders will kick off on June 25 for digital and physical editions. Unless some last-minute changes happen, the release date will be November 19, 2026, across Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Unfortunately, there's still no information about a PC version from the developer or the publisher Take-Two. Now the question becomes, how much will Grand Theft Auto VI cost at launch? The game is predicted by some analysts to be the biggest launch of an entertainment product ever. With the amount of hype that has been built behind it and with ballooning development costs, Take-Two may price this Grand Theft Auto entry differently from other AAA titles. The current price of a AAA game is $69.99. That norm almost rose to $79.99 before calming down. But with such a massive release, Grand Theft Auto VI may be the game that pushes the boundary again. It's also possible that Take-Two keeps the price relatively low to increase the number of players that jump in early and keep them hooked on Grand Theft Auto Online to spend on microtransactions for years to come. Keep in mind that the below poll is asking for a prediction of the standard edition price, not a deluxe or any other special edition that Take-Two will introduce for additional benefits. Also, there is the chance of the company splitting up the campaign and online portions. If you think that will happen, put your vote on what you think will be the total cost of the two.
