Quick question

Recommended Posts

I was using XP home edition with my system specs, see specs in SIG. It perform badly with most of my games, but with w2k none of that exist, games work beautiful and fast. So my question., because i was curious about trying out XP pro.

W2k works so amazing on my computer, how many task program loads up with the OS, and how many programs loads up with xp? And does professional xp load up more then home ediiton?

Just trying to figure out why w2k works so good, when xp home edition did not.

Read this article about the differences-

As far as you games-

As near as I can remember -- Windows 2000 handles directx different than XP-- I want to say and was looking for an article to support this. Please correct me if I am wrong. But Windows 2000 does not allow direct access to 3d hardware but instead only uses software layer to go between.

Unless you need things like Power User--- roaming profiles-- And some things are not installed by default but are available on your Home Edition CD. as well as Group Policy. Encrypting File System, Dynamic Disks, IIS, a built in backup program, and advanced networking capabilities (such as IPSec.) Some you can install separate , but don't fool backup with System restore -- 2 different things all together. Backup just does system files and selected folders whereas System restore just does system files and basic user settings. I would not bother unless you have the money- Then again once you activate the XP pro it will be tied to that computer.

A P3 600mhz is a really old system -- yeah your most likely better off sticking with 2k.. If xp home performs like a dog, so would pro.

If you into games -- maybe its time to update your system into this century ;)

Yea i am just going to continue to use w2k, it runs perfect on my rig.

LMFAO, that was funny. I am buying a new rig soon tho, but its going to be a Pentium dual core, from gateway.

peace

Why not go with Quad Core on a new rig? As to where you get it from is up to you, I would just build it myself ;)

I am not even going to go into a long discussion on this, but pretty much all the forums , computers forums that i have been on, people tell me to buy what they see fit to buying. I told people i am buying a gateway intel dual pentium, or just a prebuilt computer in general gateway brand, and i will continue to use PCI cards and either people call me a troll, told to GTFO, etc.

So no disrespect to you, but i like prebuilt, and i like gateway intel products only and i will continue to use pci cards and will buy whatever i like to buy.

LOL, its cool and all, but i like to buy what i want, not buy what other people tell me to buy or what they see is good. Its like people always want someone to buy what they have or something.

peace :)

Dude I could care less what brand of computer you buy or don't buy -- as to your PCI cards, not sure WTF that had to do with anything.. IF you want to say with antiquated hardware -- more power too you.

I was just wondering why you would not buy a quadcore vs dual -- I could care less what brand, or if you build it yourself, etc.. etc.

Here are some gateways

http://www.gateway.com/systems/series/529598086.php

The quadcore cost a bit more, but you would get way more bang for the buck, etc.

this thread is like from 2002 or something!! sorry. i know not everyone has moved to vista, but xp is solid, if you're worried about the performance of your install for gaming then i'd suggest you partition and dual boot. have one partition for games and one for everything else. run the games partition with an optimized install e.g. limited services etc;

thats my honest opinion

Yea thats why i said it was cool, my comments was not directed at you, i was just saying how other people threat me on forums, thats all. LOL

But yea that gateway for 509 is one that i am looking into buying, however i am not buying it from the site. My local pc shop has one for 250 bucks. I might end up buying it. Its no rush however, but i am getting a new rig soon, my secondary one for the newer games.

Thanks for the link tho. :)

My performance is just fine MIke, using w2k my game performance is amazing. Thats why i said that w2k works good with my system specs. I was just wondering about XP pro, and did it work just like wk2 pro. But it does not, so i am going to stick with using w2k for this computer and use Vista 32bit home basic for my secondary rig once i buy it.
