XP installed, some minor problems

I installed Windows XP Pro last night, when I boot up, my wireless adapter is deteced, but I don't see the "Wireless Connection" symbol near the clock. It just says a Hi-Speed USB drive has been deteced. When I go to Device Manager, there are Yellow question marks on the "Other devices" tab, and on all the things under it. Audio device, VGA Controller, WLAN, etc.

Do I just need to download drivers for these? Is this common? Any help would be great.

Did you install XP Pro on a computer that had Vista?

No, it ahd XP home before. I've actually done this install before with no problems.

Also, I have no other CD's other than the XP Pro one. So is it possible I can download some drivers and install them from a CD? Because I can't seem to get an internet connection. I'm going to install this wireless adapter cd when I get home though, so that might work.

Most USB wireless-- say install drivers first before connecting.... All the ones that we use are Linksys and they say run cd first.

Yeah I'm dumb I probably should do that, but what about the sound devices and other things?

There are people here with much more technical knowledge than me, but I would think installing your wireless adapter driver would be a good first step. Then hopefully you can find the drivers for your other devices.

Okay, I'll do that when I get home then we'll see what happens. I'm just anxious and panic'd that something is screwed up.

Now the next thing to install is motherboard drivers-- that should install sound drivers if onboard. That should also take care take care for example should your video card be agp-- sometimes xp does not find the card until or unless you have your agp drivers installed.

Yeah it's onboard. What can I use to find what my motherboard is, CPU-Z I think?

Or depending on where you got your computer from-- Dell/Hp/Compaq you can find drivers at those sites as well.

By model number on case. Yes CPU-Z should work.

Hopefully I can just download all the drivers easily through Windows. I'll be back.

So I downloaded my Nvidia drivers, for a 5200FX. When I restarted, my desktop was in 800x600 and in 4bit color. Couldn't change any settings, and svchost.exe was shooting to 99 cpu. No ****ing idea what happened, but I uninstalled them. So I'm getting the drivrs for my motherboard now, hopefully that doesn't something...

My Add/Remove programs list used to be filled with stuff, Windows things, now it's empty. It used to have things like Nvidia GART drivers, and stuff, now it's almost empty, 2 things. Surely there's some important files I need? I've never started so fresh with an OS before.

Once you install -- motherboard drivers -- the agp/guart drivers will show up then
