how would you rate ubuntu 8.10 ?

Well I have to say that I have 8.10 64 Bit Version running and it's flying! The only issue I have not yet sorted out is Exaile Music Player crashes and burns when I rescan my music folders! Other than that it's perfect and it fast and stable!

ive gone the x64 route before and i still had issues, not sure if it's just my laptop not playing nice with ubuntu or what ?

Hahaha... Okay, so scratch the first part:

I want Linux that works.

EDIT:

Oh, and just to mention, I finished downloading Fedora, currently downloading Sabayon, openSUSE, Zenwalk, Blag and Ubuntu 8.04 32bit.

Because I tried Ubuntu 8.10 x86-64, and I had hell of amount of problems with wireless (it's too slow). I also wanted to try different distros from time to time, so I downloaded Mint 6 and CrunchBang 8.10.1, but since they're both based on that version of Ubuntu, it really didn't help me get a working Linux OS on my computer...

I'm downloading all of these to see if any other works better with my wireless, (Sabayon and SUSE also because they come with a huge amount of programs by default so I might use them every now and then even if it doesn't work well with wireless).

Oh, and I use WISP, so that's the main reason I need to get it working.

i went with xubuntu 8.10 and its better in terms of speed, still slower than vista or 7 but much better than standard ubuntu was. i honestly think 8.10 was just a bloated, bad release all around.

I am quite surprised. I have used Xubuntu on an old low-spec PC that would bog down XP, and Vista would be unbearable. Odd to see that you find it slower. Is that by benchmarking? Or just "feel"?

overall speed "internet & os performance" pretty much the same every time. it is tolerable though, much better than ubuntu. maybe my laptop just doesn't like linux.

    • No. The file manager is a lost cause. After all, its dev receives all the undeserved praise he could evre wish from Neowin, without having actually earned it. This has never lead to improvements.
